I have that same problem:
-
@Tsaukpaetra OMG there's a reason why this PDF takes so long to render out on my machine: Look at all the vectors!
I don't think there's a single piece of jpg or even GIF data in this entire 5.2 MB file...
-
@ben_lubar I think you need to be more specific. I pasted an image and nothing happened.

@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

?
-
@ben_lubar Nope.
I didn't copy the file, I copied the pixels.
EDIT: but copying the file didn't do jack either. It does stuff with text, so yay.
EDIT EDIT: it seems to correctly grab all the formats Excel sends:

Just got an e-mail by someone from http://sourced.ai/ who thinks that according to my "code contributions on GitHub" I'd be a good fit for a company in Berlin in a 80k €/y "Senior Fullstack Engineer" position
My GitHub repo contains:Two versions of a 5 year old custom user management system for a student's dormitory based an YUI, RoR and an unholy mess of spaghetti code (I really regret the RoR part).
A website I did for my dad's primary school
A website I'm currently developing using Meteor, React and Material Design.I guess that somehow checked all the boxes this position asks for: Rails, React, TDD and Material Design.
That sounds familiar...

Hi Maciej,
I'm [redacted], a Software Engineer at [redacted]. We're a startup trying to fix the tech recruitment processes. We've come across your profile, and have been impressed with your open source contributions on Github. After analyzing your code contributions we think you might make a good match as a Fullstack Developer at [redacted]
(...)
As a fullstack developer at [redacted], you will need to have a solid Javascript knowledge and preferably some PHP experience as well (also, a good knowledge of Angular.js, HTML5 and CSS3 would be a plus).
Your salary would be between 40,000 and 60,000 euro(...)Well get yourself some better analysts, because my "open source contributions on Github" include:
a Discourse API in C# that I really don't have time to deal with, so it's like 3 files
an ugly-looking (but working quite well) WPF dictionary program for my uni
an even-uglier looking camera feed processing program, also for my uni, that requires arcane knowledge to even run without crashing
some scratch PHP code, I think I wanted to do something but it's all empty files
a DICOM image browser in WebForms and JavaScript from back when I had no idea how ASP.NET worksI only got Fullstack Developer, though. Guess my contributions aren't as impressive as yours.

No, Excell provided an empty RTF document, pay attention!
Edit: Also, Excel generates a TON of HTML code for a few non-descript cells of data...
-
@ben_lubar said in The Official Status Thread:

Nope; Excel send that, and it's probably "empty" because Excel also set the flag that says, "I didn't include this data with the clipboard, but ask me if I want it, kay?"
I don't know how browsers handle this stuff.

What?! So that's why copying from certain programs fails if I paste after I close them...

Excel's one of the few applications left which won't just slam everything in the clipboard. It actually even has a dumb error message about it, you've probably seen it before if you tried to close Excel when you have a few megabytes of Excel data copied to the clipboard.
Excel's the worst best tool.
If it makes you feel better, Mac Classic didn't allow that. If you let something be copied, you handed it over to the OS post-haste and you were hands-off from that point. There was no, "look, I got this data but come talk to me if you actually want it" copy/paste stuff like Windows and X11 has.

Hello, I have a problem with my grass. It's been growing fine until now.
Have you tried rebuilding your property?
No, that's a bit extreme and probably not required as the problem is just with my grass.
Well, we recommend rebuilding your house and then setting fire to your lawn and laying new sod....

$50/mo for usage like this is probably not worth the effort...
It's too bad my phone doesn't work with FreedomPop or similar (apparently only Sprint devices are compatible, because sprint), and even if it did, they're not using Verizon's towers (which is the only thing apparently capable of reaching service in the mountains apparently).

@Tsaukpaetra I recall Verizon has prepay pay as you go plans.

@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:

They're not offering them for this device.
I think if I get a dumb phone (i.e. one that can't tether) it might be ~$20/mo, but... Yeah, useless, since I don't use a phone as a phone.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Assuming you don't have other phones on your plan, and you aren't still carrying lease payments for your phone, you could switch to the Prepaid plan - $45 per month for 2GB data and unlimited talk/text. You get an extra 1GB of data if you let them auto charge your credit card monthly. You do pay sales tax on it, and a small amount of federal phone fees, but not much, less than $5 total unless you live in a sales tax dystopia.
Though I suppose comparing to the 1GB small plan that doesn't come out that good. It's $20/mo cheaper than the standard 3GB medium post-pay plan that's most comparable to it.
Also, you have to basically insist on the Prepaid stuff. The sales monkeys go out of their way to not sell it to you.

I was staying with a friend last week who had bought an HTC Vive and an Oculus, he sold the Oculus nearly immediately as it didn't compare.
I tried the Vive and it was fantastic. There was a very disconcerting moment when one of my virtual controllers sailed off into the sunset like Arthur Dent's arm, but apart from that it works very, very well.
The graphics were a little bit disappointing though. I shouldn't been expecting IMAX but it was a little grittier than I thought it would be.
For my money I'll wait until the Vive 2, it should be easily good enough then.

What?!
Remember when Windows was supposed to fit into 4MB[1] of RAM? It would not have been desirable to put large amounts of data on the clipboard unless you knew they were going to be used, i.e., a flag that says "I'll give you the data if you ask for it."
[1] probably less in earlier versions. I think Windows 3 wanted at least 512MB.

Are you somehow trying to get a 32-bit driver via a 64-bit settings app?

It doesn't give you an option, there is only 'update now' to select in the app. On the website there doesn't seem to be an option either, I guess the download is unified for both architectures (or it doesn't support 32 bit at all these days).

HTC Vive
Jeesh, those toys are expensive.
Apparently Google is rounding up hardware manufacturers for the whole Daydream thing - supposedly "Gear VR, but working with more than just Samsung phones". Since the list seems to include my Nexus 6P, I'll be tempted to buy it.
And if I had a boatload of money, I'd probably go for Hololens - I like the concept of augmented reality more than the virtual one, and Hololens seems like "Google Glass done right". Except it's Microsoft, so it's probably gonna end up with billions of articles declaring it dead before it even comes out for the public, the developers believing them and dropping the platform, and a self-fulfilling prophecy.
-
-
@FrostCat Yeah that's the rationale.
Mac Classic would just run out of memory. But on the "plus side" Mac Classic didn't have virtual memory for most of its existence, so it was less likely to come up.
And, again: X11 works the same way as Windows. IIRC Linux distros have to run little clipboard monitoring programs to ensure that X11 apps with copied stuff will correctly hand-over the stuff when they're closed.

Well so long as it starts up the Xbox way, maybe it will survive long enough that my developer certificate thing stays active.
I've yet to try the Vive, but the display quality (despite the color issues, I think it's just that the technology isn't mature enough) is really nice, tracking is superb, and I can see words and text on windows from virtual 5 feet away the same as if it were IRL, which is definitely not something I can say for Oculus at least.
And if the Vridge adapter app comes through, I might even have a decent Vive substitute.

As soon as I get the from RiftCat and access to their potential upcoming API, I'm developing the killer app that connects to a proper gaming rig and lets you gain access to all Oculus, SteamVR/Vive, and possible GearVR games.
According to them, it's mainly a h264 video stream with come TCP control things or something like that, but closed source and not really documented for use outside their own apps.

Ours is a cute little sticker on the license plate. And I'll be arsed if I have to go looking at my truck's butt every now and then to check whether it's expired...
In Ontario, it's a sticker on the back plate. They are renewed on the month of your birthday. So it's super easy to remember. Your birthday month? Renew. Done.
