Important for people wondering why my Twitter isn't blocked as well.
Jeff hasn't managed to connect you with TDWTF. Also, your avatar there is gone...
-
I just took it off. It's been there for a while.
It wouldn't take him much to do the cross reference though.
-
@boomzilla said in Oh, Discourse …:
Jeff
Apropros of not- I saw him somewhat-crankily commenting on NUCblog yesterday. He wanted some benchmarks but didn't want to apply a codec pack.
-
@FrostCat When the benchmarks come back bad, he'll just block the source of them.
-
@xaade said in Oh, Discourse …:

He probably has this place IP-blocked on every router he has access to, so I doubt the cross referencing would be that easy. I'm sure it'd require at least 10,000 lines of ruby.
-
@Magus If he can see what apps I've given Facebook permission to...
-
@xaade Paying attention to users? Are we talking about the same person?

In other words...
He's doing this to push his feature set.

I predict that Discourse will have a "source control" "plugin" within the next 2 years. Like everything else from TCotCDCK and his Holiness , it will be broken and utterly useless to anyone who doesn't already have a vested interest in the "tool". Within 6
monthsweeksdays of release, it will be part of the core Discourse platform, just one more thing to eat up resources on the servers for those sites who just want gorram forum software.

have open source software that doesn'tsuck. But the odds are against you.FTFY

I honestly once had a lot of goodwill towards for working on Stack Overflow. And I saw Discourse as a featureful, RWD discussion app for the 202nd decade. But then I started reading the blog, and watched him take some of the goodwill and set it up in flames. And then I tried to install Discourse, and dropped a few more splashes of red ink on the account. And then I came here and saw how his crappy mindset pollutes everything he does anymore and really wonder how he ever produced anything as successful as SO. Balance: 0gw.

@pydsigner SO got better when they kicked him out. But it's not really good anymore.

He can't ban you and delete your comments...
Sure he can. The post deletion just comes later when they "clean up" "old" topics that "aren't needed any more". After all, why would you need any sort of history in your official issue tracker?
-
@Magus said in Oh, Discourse …:
so I doubt the cross referencing would be that easy.
Other people than me (but including me) remain unblocked on meta.derp.

The worst thing probably is that if someone rewrote in a less stupid way it'd probably be pretty awesome. It's too bad @end isn't here any more because me saying that I liked the experience as a user would probably get me another crying indian picture.

Speaking of, when are we eliminating accounts last logged on > 1 year ago with no posts and no activity?

@Tsaukpaetra Got an embarrassingly-named alt you wanna get rid of?

No, should I create some? What would you suggest? @Tsaukpaetra2016?
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in Oh, Discourse …:
should I create some?
You can, but then you'd have to wait (at least) a year for them to get purged.

Ah, but that depends on some kind of regularly run purge! At the moment, no such thing is happening, so they could be there forever!!!!
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in Oh, Discourse …:
so they could be there forever!!!!
Psst, that might by why I put those two words in parentheses.

But it might (not) be indeed! Why take that risk and assume?

@powerlord he decided early on that dogfooding meant using your software for everything, even if it's not remotely suited. That's where forums as bugtrackers came from
See, that isn't eating your own dogfood.
That's eating ONLY this ONE PARTICULAR pile of dogfood. And nothing else.
And when you eat it, and it's done, and you shit out dogshit, you scoop it up and keep eating it.
And then scoop up and eat the dogshit that results from that.
Over and over, eating nothing but that closed system. Each time you extract what little bit of food you can from the pile of shit, but it just keeps inching closed and closed to 100% shit. But you keep eating it because of the original mandate.
Over and over, until you die of malnutrition, sepsis and e-coli infections.
Discourse.

I think it's what Alex was talking about here.

And.... going for the ban.
Yeah, it's not impossible to achieve.
If TDWTF is any evidence, you just kick people out until the rest comply. Literally "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

People usually forget that Spolsky was a less than silent partner and spent most of those early podcasts trying not to strangle him every time he opened his mouth.

I was willing to hear him out and give him the benefit of the doubt; but he got on here and he was self-righteous, obnoxious, and obstinate. I actually used to read his blog and respect his opinion. No more.

yeah, sorry. he hit 0gw before the epic shitfest that banned most tdwtfers from discourse with the message "you are no longer welcome here"
sorry, but he's so far into the red, there's no hope of ever climbing out.
he took his professional image and so thouroughly destroyed it i doubt i can ever think of him as an adult again, let alone as a computer science professional. that's just not a thing anymore.

think he'll do anything on that date, or people just won't bother going back to log on anyway?
-
@all_users I've been wondering about that. I'm sure it's more significant in our minds than theirs.
-
@all_users for some of us, it's not a concern since our accounts were anonymized. Of course, I recreated my account just to see if it was possible, but my old account is gone.

Why? I mean, why trying not to? Why he'd want to is obvious.
