@boomzilla Is it possible to rate-limit the "delete" feature?
Or actually, delete the post properly, and show nothing instead of that irritatingThis post is deleted!
.Or allow to up vote a deleted post? I wanted to do that to the first of @fbmac's deleted posts in this thread and I couldn't and it sucks. Deleted posts are part of the discussion, y'know? And… they're worth a thousand words.

You aren't using the forum anyway. Forums are for discussions. You delete all your posts before they can foster discussion.
I've learnt a lot about @fbmac through these posts. I know that anytime he deletes a post it came from the heart.

@fbmac Don't make me delete your post.
You better don't make his posts deleted!
AUTHORITARIANISM! BROTHERS AND SISTERS, TO ARMS!

I was expecting to find a debate about necros in here.To be totally honest, these aren't the necros you're looking for.

Barring that, would @accalia want to make a stalker bot that exists only to quote reply to @fbmac on every post that he makes before he can delete them?
Where did your libertarianism go?
Where is your libertarianism? Where is your libertarianism NOW?

I didn't know I posted these many posts in quick succession.

But you'd rather infringe on @fbmac's right to delete his content. You'd take it away from him but not from me. I feel left out. :(

@kt_ I'm already annoyed that there is a time limit for deleting, and that there is an option to select all my posts and delete with a single click.

Hey, @fbmac, you had a Dalek avatar at one point.
A Cyberman night be more appropriate...

ITYM "there isn't an option"?
Maybe you should create a thread, be the only one to post there and then delete it?
Maybe @blakeyrat'll post something too and you'll have a delete fest?
-
Where is your libertarianism? Where is your libertarianism NOW?
It only applies until other people are wrong

+1.
Although the deleted posts aren't really the annoying part.
It's the freaking necros.I've got enough unread posts without some idiot coming in here and bumping some discussion from 10 years ago...
-
@sloosecannon Inb4 @fbmac necro'ing this thread in 10 years.

No it doesn't. Unless we create a bit that archives every post -- made by everyone. Hey, @mods could also turn off the "delete" function.

In the midst of flamewars about recreating Ubuntu on Windows using Microsoft's now-dated bash support, the irreconcilable differences between red parrotkin and green parrotkin, reviews of how Call of Duty: Postmodern Warfare 6 is an uninspired, lazy cash grab, or a newly-discovered vulnerability in an OSS project that's still written in C due to Linus' stubbornness?

@kt_ Every single post should be painstakingly carved into a stone tablet and buried inside a vault beneath the Himalayas, kilometers deep in rock. Only then can we make sure that not a single bit of wisdom or wit to ever appear on this forum will be preserved for future generations. After the inevitable nuclear holocaust that almost wipes life off the face of Earth, the survivors - or the next sapient species to evolve from cockroaches millions of years afterwards - can use these tablets as guidelines on their way to creating true Utopia and becoming one with the gods.
(and whoever does the carving better be fucking fast because we're going to need @fbmac's posts too)

No we can't. You want @administrators

Wethey're doomed(and whoever does the carving better be fast because we're going to need @fbmac's posts too)
On second thought…
Nah, they're still doomed.
I mean, unless there's something really good in those posts that @fbmac's sholder alien is keeping from us.

@blek I'm personally only complaining because I do remember reading some of the posts @fbmac insisted on deleting using the history feature back on Discourse, and many of them were actually funny / well thought out.
I guess what I'm saying is — I'm trying to goad @fbmac into keeping his posts without getting mushy on him.

Today's update had nothing to do with any specific users. I cannot stress this enough.

This reminds me of when I was tasked with updating a form in a Windows application that used the following strategy for access controls:
if(currentUser.username == "jsmith") ...
-
@Groaner Linux has similar code that goes something like
bool canUserDoThing(thing_t t) { if (currentUser.id == 0) return true; /* rest of function */ }
-
@ben_lubar So… You're saying that you gave @fbmac root access?
-
@ben_lubar is it edit history logging?
-
@ben_lubar saving both the old and new version on the history data you duplicate the content. preserving the old version is enough to recreate the entire history
-
@ben_lubar So… You're saying that you gave @fbmac root access?
if ($user=="linus.torvalds") { ZipAndPhoneHome('~/porn');};
-
-
@ben_lubar "if (data.uid === 140870)", why didn't you implement edit history for everyone if you were already at it?
-
@fbmac that's too much effort.

That's just what he wants you to think. It's called "obfuscation".
