@Jaloopa Turns out the firefox installer obtained from my work's network drive is the beta channel, and there's no such thing as a "use beta channel" checkbox. One suggestion I've found is to install the release version over the top, but I'm blocked from downloading the Firefox installer hence using the one on the network. There may be a way to fo it through the file system, as even
about:config
doesn't have an option.Fucking firefox bullshit

STATUS:
New colleague who started working yesterday:
I used to be a programmer too. PHP, Worpress, Joomla.
I remember, there was one site where suddenly some text started appearing in the footer. I delete it and update the site. But tomorrow morning the client calls and complains that the thing is back. I delete it again and again, but it just keeps coming back. I had no idea what was generating it. So I just ended up going to the site and manually deleting it every now and then.
Anyway, I'm doing photography now.

Don't know. But I bet it's something like that :-)

But they don't, that's the point. Only ancient sheep breeds (some of which are still around, like the soay) moult.

Is it just me or is the main site really slow? The forums are very snappy but I'm still waiting for today's article to load. As I was typing this, suddenly half the article loaded. But just half...still waiting. Ah it finally loaded after like 3+ minutes...

It was snappy a couple of hours ago, but it's cootied for me too right now…

Can you download an offline installer from home/a café/your phone?
Oh hey, look, autocorrect has learned accents.

Around here, that's a sign it's time to go home.

@FrostCat I found a different link that's not blocked. Seems they have the main "download Firefox" page covered but not the all languages page. Hooray for substandard net nanny management

Status: Restarted the OSM import on a slightly more beefy VM on an SSD.
The Node import didn't profit much - slightly doubled speeds, but then again, this was the shortest part of the operation.
Way import is way up (pardon the pun) - the max speed on a platter was 0.47 k/s. In the new VM it's currently at 7.0 k/s and still rising - this would reduce the time from hours measured in double digits to single digits.
Maybe it could actually be done today?

Oh for fuck's sake:
Error occured:
No space left on device. The file for Germany was 3.9 GiB in size. The volume size for my VM was 60 GiB.
Would it kill those people to tell newbies about what to expect? Something like:
- An SSD will speed up the process (which will otherwise take days) about 50 times.
- This 3 GiB file you downloaded? Yeah, expect a 2000% increase in size when you put it into the database
Geeze. Good thing I redid the whole thing on my SSD and didn't let the harddisc version follow through - because I gave that one only 60 GiB as well.

Edit: so does nodebb not follow rotation hints or what? All open source-y shit seems to break on those. I remember Discourse had the same issue. It's probably using the same broken open source-y shit.

It's an open source project. You literally can not lower your expectations of their documentation enough.

It's especially disturbing during a power outage. You don't realize just how much noise is in a room until everything gets forcibly turned off...
Then again, I doubt many people have so many fans in their front room as I do.... (A/C, three desktops, an actual fan, and none of them are ever supposed to be "off"...)
-
The AC isn't even the loudest thing in my room. The huge (but not currently beeping) pair of UPS devices in the next room make more noise.
-
@loopback0 there was a job I was near a server hack, that shit was noisy

Status: Took a cursory trip through this app's Database Model to remove all the superfluous and/or unused objects.
It was a massacre.186 tables/views were removed, which lets the model go from "OMG what is this ocean of boxes I might as well just view the text model" to "Ok, I think I can almost get a handle on this thing now..."

We compensate that by almost sitting atop of the diesel generator. In the room it goes quite ... only to be replaced with a different hum.

@Jaloopa They replaced the From and Received columns in everybody's Thunderbird inboxes with a "Correspondents" column that has a useless grayed out to the left of the person who sent it, presumably for forwards? I mean, if it's not a forward, then just don't display the arrow dumbfucks
Fake edit: Looks like its for determining if the message is incoming or outgoing. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THERE BEING A SEPARATE INBOX AND OUTBOX YOU DUMBFUCKS
