Do we have a gin topic already? I feeling rather Gin&Tonic lately.
Why limit it to just G&T? Let's have suggestions for any and every drink people use to relax after a hard day's work.

To keep it on-topic: just dissolve in any drink

My favourite chat-up line:
"Does this handkerchief smell like chloroform to you?"

Cheapest bottle you can find of vodka / whiskey and mixed with some diet soda.

You're probably one of those people who like to eat fish, aren't you?

I do eat a lot of seafood.

Exactly. Why else would you drink wine before or after dinner?
-
Jack n Coke... or Jack n Apple Pucker... so good.
-
A nice cup of tea.

Cheap wine is

Yeah, like cheap vodka and whiskey.
-
cheap vodka
-
OK, now...what's wrong with it? The stuff I get here doesn't have a strong flavor. Like vodka is supposed to be. Except it's cheap. Plus I mix it with stuff, which covers many taste issues.

Well, I do agree with you. In fact, getting drunk with anything cheap is . If you're going to poison yourself, you should enjoy it.
Methinks.
-

Cheap vodka reminds me of Vodkat. Which was very cheap but listed its ingredients as just ethanol and water, and tasted nasty.
I haven't really been able to drink vodka since I was 18 and drank an entire pint of it after like 5 hours of heavy drinking and was very ill.

The benefit of green tea is that it is effective during stressful situations.

Ah, this explains it. I have a similar relationship with gin.

If you're not planning a lethal dose, though, it's best to have as much left over afterwards as possible.

I thought you were a fan of the cheap wine with the rooster on the bottle?

I don't like gin either but that's just because I don't think it's very nice.
The vodka thing is a bit of a shame. Before I drank way too much I used to like it, and I periodically try it again, but over 12 years later I still can't stand it.
-

Yes, but not just to get drunk. I enjoy having that with food. The hard stuff is still way more cost and time effective to just get a buzz on and relax.
-
I have two modes for relaxation beverage lately:
Ice and a slice:
A ginger beer on ice with a slice of lime (and half a lime's worth of juice).Moscow Mule:
The same thing but sub some of the ginger beer for Vodka.I find that a 16oz bottle of beer is right for ice and a slice and a 12oz can for the mule.
I prefer Not Your Father's Ginger Ale as my ginger beer.

Ironically, the cheaper the vodka, the more flavor it has. Because of impurities, and because they haven't bothered to fully distill out all the volatile shit that gets left over from the "turn potatoes into shitface-liquid" process.
I'm not a huge vodka person. I use it for 2 things:
-
Making limoncello. Soak the zest of about 6 lemons in a bottle of vodka. The essential oils are alcohol soluble, so it extracts all the lemon flavor. Takes about a week. Strain. Then mix it about 50:50 with a medium sugar syrup. Put in freezer. The alcohol and sugar will keep it from freezing. You can have a shot of the best fucking "lemonade" any time you want on a hot summer day
-
Buying the cheapest as shit vodka I can find. Mix about 400ml water, 400ml vinegar, 100ml vodka, and a few drops of peppermint extract. Safe, natural kitchen cleaner. The acidity and alcohol will kill anything on the counter and cut through grease. Won't kill you if you accidentally drink some of it. Smells nice. Cheap.

Yeah, in theory. The stuff I get seems fairly tasteless to me, but then I'm really not a big vodka guy, so I don't have much to compare with.
-
It's probably been filtered
-
Probably. It's like, $14 for a 1.75L bottle here at our expensive state owned stores. It's probably not really vodka at all.
-
A normal day at work: no alcohol or maybe a couple of beers/ciders.
A bit worse: a bottle of white wine, normally Sauvignon Blanc, or a bottle of prosecco.
A bit worse again: a bottle of red wine, normally Chianti.
Bad: Some combination of white wine or prosecco and beer/cider
Bad but away with work: Champagne/prosecco and beer/cider which the company unwittingly pays for
Horrific: bad but twice as much
Horrific but away with work: Much champagne and a lot of beer/cider which the company again unwittingly pays for.

In college, we liked blackberry brandy. The 40-proof bottles were great for parties. One time, however, we (not realizing it) got a 70-proof variety. Fortunately, we all realized this and didn't try to finish the bottle in one night, since that would've made us all sick.
-
The makings.

Plus I mix it with stuff
Don't forget you can filter it too. (Some humor site that's long gone--I want to say it was sparknotes.com--tested that like 10 years before Mythbusters.)

Dang, sometimes it does suck living in Ontario. A 750ml bottle runs about $20-$30 for cheap stuff.
What state are you in?
edit inb4 jokes about state/drunk

I went to Niagra a few years ago, and I remember how expensive everything seemed. I think the US dollar was a lot weaker then.

Virginia. For some reason, you can buy beer and wine (and hard cider and other malt beverages) at grocery stores, convenience stores, etc, but anything else has to be bought at state owned stores. Ridiculous. Our previous felon governor floated a proposal to sell that shit off, but nothing ever came of it.
My parents were recently here. They live in California (where liquor is sold pretty much everywhere...which may explain a few things). My dad complained about the price of liquor here, but I pointed out that we make up the difference buying a gallon or two of gasoline.
-
In college
Around here the "college drink" is Passion Pop. It's like carbonated alcoholic fruit juice. Back then it might have been around $2 for 5-6 standard drinks. But I never really partook, being more into Bundaberg Rum initially.
Then when I moved into a share-house they "knew a guy" with his own still so there was often 5 litre flagons of mystery spirit appearing at parties!

Washington had that same stupid blue law for ages. A few years ago we finally got rid of it. Now you can buy hard liquors in any grocery store.
Thank God we have an Initiative system in our State. Fuck Governors.
