Wouldn't be surprised. All he has to do is a couple of hail mary's every day, right?

Something like that

Maybe your password expired due to aging? Is there an Outlook Web App instance you can log into to verify your credentials aren't expired?
-
Maybe your password expired due to aging?
Probably not, I set my password to never expire (Because I'm Dangerous like that!).
Logon worked fine, just keep getting the error each connection. Though I do get it for every computer in the domain, so...Edit: Come to think of it, it did just start when I rebooted this (local) machine. Maybe a Windows Update borked the credentials storage?
Also, if anyone can help me figure out why NetLogon isn't staying up on the Domain Controller, that might help things too...

"I'm sorry Mr Kates, we're still working on the 50,000 you ordered to a Mr Fox yesterday"
Well, get cracking on those. I've got another 50k for you to deliver to a Mr. Papappaaa.. Papodilmilly... PappieDo... you know what, lets just focus on this order for now.
Nope
Great, now whose going to wear the Felicia costume I ordered? Guess it's time to shave my legs again.

Sheesh, you're having trouble with that DC, aren't you?
-
trouble with that DC
Yeah. Serves me right for having only one (i'm F-ing cheap) and for leaving it unattended so long that it died when I spoke to it directly.Actually, kinda reminds me of that gamer that died after playing games for three days straight, but only after standing up too quickly causing unequalized blood pressure in his body.
I really don't want to scrap this though since (after all) it is the primary (and only) domain controller, and the last time I tried to tango a new server into replacing the PDC in a single-server environment ended... poorly.
I'm just not that experienced in migration to pull it off without a lot of hitching.... Setting up from scratch though, that's pretty easy! Adding a second/third/etc. even easier!

I stand to correct myself: Apparently I have (had) up to three servers, but one is disappeared, and the other is an AWS instance I don't think would like being promoted to manage all my stuff over the internet...

You bring up the new PDC, join it in, make it PDC and dump the old one.
Assuming your existing PDC can be persuaded to work well enough in the interim.

Lets just remember that I have fornt page typo privelges, buddy.

Paging @accalia, you need to become a front page wirter

What I really don't like is how not-obvious it is to promote a new PDC.
You can add a DC, create a domain, etc via the GUI with a couple buttons, but if you need to switch DCs, all bets are off.
Granted you shouldn't need to be doing it frequently, but still...
-
That's not good.... where did it go?
It was probably on the FrontPC, which has suffered... complications during the Great Hard Drive Shenanigan Day. No biggie, it was probably just backup for the primary.
You bring up the new PDC, join it in, make it PDC and dump the old one.
Yeah, it looks nice on paper, but not so much in practice.Assuming your existing PDC can be persuaded to work well enough in the interim.
not-obvious it is to promote a new PDC.
This. It's annoying at best, nail-biting normally, and a nightmare if anything slightly out of the expected script of events (or configuration) is even slightly off kilter.

Not much to tell. End result: I believe the onboard SATA controller is a POS and can't wait until I can replace the MB. Not only the SATA ports a junk, but 77% of the time the USB ports don't work properly and a few other things.
At least it still plays games pretty well.

Status: After watching the democratic presidential debate, I'm wondering which elder dragon represents each candidate in the election.
Here's my opinion:
- Primordus -
Bernie Sanders - Awakened over 200 years ago and has remained dedicated to {socialism, setting things on fire} ever since.
- Steve -
Martin O'Malley. Nobody has ever seen him or the results of his actions. Or even any of his followers. Do they exist?
- Jormag -
Hillary Clinton. I couldn't think of a reason for this one, but if I make a long enough excuse, maybe nobody will notice.
- Zhaitan -
Ben Carson - says he's a {brain surgeon, representation of the concept of death}, but how does that make him qualified for {being the President, destroying the universe}? Come to think of it, how does that make him qualified for anything other than {brain surgery, necromancy}?
- Kralkatorrik -
Jeb Bush - related to {George W Bush,Glint}, but radically different in ideology. Seriously guys, he isn't anything like that other one. One {caused the creation of ISIS,had the ability to communicate with mortal creatures and joined their side} and the other {is Jeb!,awoke and burned a scar into the blazeridge mountains that can be seen from space and caused the creation of the Vigil}. Wait, I got the order wrong. Shit.
- Mordremoth -
Donald Trump - He wants to make {Americans,Tyrians} fight against {Muslims,Sylvari} just because some of them might be {ISIS,Mordrem}. Also controls the {Trump hotel and Casino,Maguuma jungle}.
Status: I'm done. Fudrucking gizmoblasting done with the Nook Color and Nook Tablet devices. Spent the last five hours attempting to upgrade the ROM on each of these (I have one of each), and failed (mostly).
The Nook Color won't accept its own rom, so it doesn't even try to install. Attempting to install using TWRP starts, but dies at "checking partition sizes" (WTF?).
The Nook Tablet installs, but no variation of GApps can be installed that will allow it to boot (SetupWizard has stopped working, forever in your face, you clicked OK, doesn't matter, hey did you know Setup Wizard has stopped working?).I might be a little more lenient on these things (I mean, obviously they weren't intended to run modern OS like Android L), but when it literally refuses to charge without the patented I'm-so-special USB cable? No.
Special cable should enable fast charging, sure, but you shouldn't completely kill charging on "unapproved cables".P.S. Anyone want these? I can let them go for like, $20 a pop or $30 for both!

Yeah, I haven't booted the VMs on that machine in a while for this reason.

Do you do international shipping?

It's much funnier when you imagine it as a cheesy movie line:
: DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM?
: Says "Mr. Root" here. That means nothing on this system buddy. You get the same treatment as everyone else!
-
What filesystem is that on? If it's something with advanced ACLs, root may well not have permission to do anything with that file.

it's tempting, i'll admit....

It's some shitty VPS.
Sent the ticket, moved on. No time for their crap.

Status: upgrading the Tizen firmware by USB: download a 1.1GB .exe file which is basically an installer, which basically unzip the content. Because ZIP, RAR and 7Zip are nonexistent in Asia?
-
It makes sense insofar as you can't guarantee the presence of a suitable ZIPper on the client machine.
Still a though.
-
I emailed a file compressed in 7z to the outsource office and they though it was a corrupted zip =(
-
Yeah, well, not like anyone downloading a freaking firmware is going to have trouble unzipping anything. Anyway, this isn't the biggest WTF of the whole reason I have to download a firmware update.
-
Because ZIP, RAR and 7Zip are nonexistent in Asia?
Wasn't .lha / .lza traditionally more widely used in Asia?

With S2008 and newer, the PowerShell script to do it is literally a one-liner.
Granted, ain't nobody got time to actually remember what the gorram commands are, but that's what Google/TechNet are for... http://thelazyadmin.com/2013/08/managing-fsmo-roles-with-powershell/

The thing that truly gets my goat about it is that it is explicitly not a security mechanism and is actually intended to be used like that.
I have not figured out how they fucking intended for powershell to be useful in the default state.
-
Your Steve choice for Martin O'Malley is poor. He's hated by some for the rain tax. You have to be known to be hated.
-
Do you do international shipping?
Maybe? I'm not a seller, so this would probably happen through a medium like eBay.
WELL I'M NOT MUCH OF A ROOT, AM I?!
Someone a little while ago mentioned something about ACLs, but I don't think that's the problem here.
(semi )I have not figured out how they fucking intended for powershell to be useful in the default state.
similar to how they expect you to use their flagship software (which supports add-ons! ).

SetupWizard has stopped working, forever in your face
This and the "checking partition sizes" thing--I ran into this trying to put CM12/Android 5 on a Galaxy Note II--apparently means you've got a system partition that's too small, and there doesn't seem to be a way to resize it.
The only thing I can think of is try an older ROM with an older OS version, because that's what I had to do with my Note.
