Unsexy Zoe Quinn drollness (prepare the lawyers)

I wouldn't be surprised if they did this just to stop the leaking btards from 4chan from destroying their forum.
Just like virtually the entire rest of 4chan too, then.
-
tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if they did this just to stop the leaking btards from 4chan from destroying their forum.
Hey, 4chan is the balancing factor of the internet. The internet has a ying-yang and they are somewhere in there keeping the balance.
-
There hasn't been one scintilla of intelligent content in it from anyone, and it is a waste of disk space at this point.
Is this TDWTF's fault or Zoe Quinn's? Disclaimer: I'd never heard of her before this thread, but she seems pretty awful, as does anyone who's ever met her.
-
i dont get any of it. this all sounds like a thing that is full of only people under the age of 20. who gives a shit about anything this random bag of fail does.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure most of the people in it are over 20. Under 30, though.
It's mostly that the people involved all think they're big deals in the gaming industry. Zoe describes herself as 'The biggest voice for women in gaming", which is a crock of shit. She might be the loudest, but women have been making games for longer than Zoe's been alive, and they were able to do it without creating drama.
It really comes down to one person who probably has BPD, and a lot of noise being made about this 'sudden reveal' of rampant nepotism in games 'journalism'
But it has sex involved, so everyone wants to take a look.
-
It's mostly that the people involved all think they're big deals in the gaming industry.
And the biggest problem here is that they think the gaming industry is a big deal.
She might be the loudest, but women have been making games for longer than Zoe's been alive, and they were able to do it without creating drama.
Dude. I know several live women. There's always drama.
-
Ain't love grand?

I know several live women.
I'll take your word for it.There's always drama.
Okay, I'll concede that point.

Yes, there are differences that can be observed between most people who have been diagnosed as depressed and those who have not based on MRI. I don't understand how you can misread that to imply that MRI would be a successful diagnostic tool (it would exclude a lot of people who are definitely depressed), or that it proves depression is physical in origin.
Seeing this sway back and forth and people missing each other (like skew lines in a 3D pythagorian universe), I think I can stitch together the difference here.
I look at it this way. You take an X-Ray of two people's arms, one broken, one whole and healthy. Is the broken arm the cause of pain? Yes. But what caused the broken arm in the first place?
That's Morb's point - with the MRI, just like the X-Ray, you haven't identified the true cause, you've merely identified an indicator. Finding the cause(s) of depression still eludes us, hence a lot of opinions and no real scientific process.
Contrast that with strep throat as an example. Symptoms: problems with the throat (not going to list them pedantically here), observable. True cause of the condition is the bacterial infection. Since the true cause is identified, effective on a repeatable basis for just about everyone treatments can and have been administered to handle strep throat terminatedly.
We're nowhere near that level of treatment for depression, unfortunately.
-
I was pointing out that googling a phrase and getting results that agree with you doesn't make it real.
+1

But what caused Ray “Smasher” McGee to take a crowbar to that man's arm in the first place? You can always dig deeper into root causes, but it doesn't always make it a good idea.

OK, I was going to stand aside on this in the hopes that the discussion would cool down, but I need to add my own two (s)cents at this point. What is really at hand is a terminology issue. Depression is what is know as a 'syndrome' rather than a 'disease'. That is to say, it is a collection of common symptoms which are associated with each other on a frequent basis, but which do not have a known causative factor.
That last part is the real issue here. We don't know whether depression is a single disease or several different diseases with different causations. While most diagnosticians assume there is a single underlying disease, the evidence for depression (along with several other psychological syndromes such as schizophrenia) being caused by two or more unrelated diseases is growing. Part of the evidence is the inconsistent response to pharmacological treatment: if you have a syndrome with no known causation, and different patients react differently to the same treatment, it is a good indication that more than one disease is affecting the different patients. This is exactly what we see in both depression and schizophrenia, as opposed to, say bipolar disorder, which (AFAIK, IANAD) is harder to diagnose but tends to respond well to a specific set of treatments. Thus, it is possible that depression, like zebras, is not a single thing but a pattern with multiple origins.

Different reactions can also be attributed to highly experimental drugs that aren't fully understood being administered for a reason we don't entirely understand. Giving someone 10mg for a light issue vs 10mg for a significant issue isn't going to have the correct results.
But im leaving this topic and not returning, so don't bother replying.

You must be new here.
-
Well, let's just say that the last time I was here regularly, using the word 'brillant' was still considered new and clever, and Dis&Curse wasn't even a glimmer in anyone's eyes.
-
WTF is this? Who cares about depression? Come on people, focus on the important stuff! Did Zoe Quinn sleep around for profit or because she's a slut? Is there hope for gaming journalism!? Will internet ever be the same again!!?
-
Ah so you are new here then for all practical purposes. Pedantry and dickweedery are now rife, and expecting conversations to cool down is futile. The best you can hope for is that they get derailed away.
-
Is there hope for gaming journalism!?
There's some hope that many gaming “journalists” will get the boot and that there will be one or two real journalists getting into the area, so yes, there's hope.
-

You know, people not getting the joke makes me depressed.... good thing we're in the right thread for it!
-
There are good video game journalists (one example), but they'll never be hired by a video game "journalism" site.
-
-
they'll never be hired by a video game "journalism" site.
That increases the likelyhood of me reading it, you realise? The VG"J"Sites are just as bad as I remember the computer magazines of the '90s being. Reading badly written corporate shills? I have better things to do, such as watching paint dry.
-
My guess is that it's hard to hire the guy to write game reviews when he only plays ones created before 1980.
-
But what caused Ray “Smasher” McGee to take a crowbar to that man's arm in the first place? You can always dig deeper into root causes, but it doesn't always make it a good idea.
And here we have an example of taking it too far, as opposed to not far enough. Good point.
-
I wanted to know whether the sleeping around with video game journalists was true to know whether it is a worthwhile career option.
-
-
Then he knows better than to tell anyone else.
-
On a serious note. While I was embarrassed to own a penis after completing the Red Alert 3 Allied Campaign and there are going to be arseholes online.
Complaining about a game such as Hitman having lots of tits or female flesh in it when the main protagonist is a genetically engineered assassin with a barcode on the back of his neck, is kinda like complain about the Fast and Furious not being an accurate description about motor racing or whatever the fast and the furious is about these days ... I am just going to think you are whining.
Video games are ridiculous anyway.
-
For games, it is just people mixing up their causalities. They think that people make games with lots of naked chicks in them, and then society objectifies women. They are fucking morons. Society objectifies women, so games are made to pander to the demographic. Because it sells, and sometimes the objectification furthers along the storyline.
Those who disagree think that games cause people to objectify women. Let them make a compelling game about a feminist trying to balance work and family life while climbing the corporate ladder and trying to convince their husband to stay home and be a good house husband. See how well it sells.

Yeah. If video games objectify anything, it's shootable splatterable unobservant men working for shadowy mercenary corporations.
-
I was thinking more that it objectified demons that need a shotgun upside the head.

I don't think this is an accurate characterisation of what the complaints are actually about. The complaint is about objectification, not because it causes objectification, but because it IS objectification. It's been a complaint about every other industry for years and years and more and such.
I think the problem for games is it is much more overt than other industries in many cases, and additionally, it's only relatively recently that people have started paying more attention to it, which has resulted in less of the "murder simulators" aspect and more on the equality aspect. The demographic has been gradually changing, but the industry hasn't really reacted.
anyway, I thought I would google "housewife simulator" to see if the people behind games like "Euro Truck Simulator" and "Farming Simulator" and "Garbage Recycling Simulator" or whatever it was called might have made such a thing.
I found this:
I don't know if this was made by:
- the most terrible "men making games for women" kind of debacle,
- some kind of company of women making games for women that happen to have made a terribly degrading game
- a game intentionally insulting to women
- some kind of incredibly cunning satire on the way games from camp 1 end up.
I am pretty sure it isn't number 4. It seems way too awful/insulting to be intentional to me.
anyway, I probably sound like a massive SJW right now, which I ain't. Ain't nobody got time for that.

The Sims was pretty popular and can be played that way, I guess.
Not really trying to denounce your point. Just being a dickweed about things.
Filed Under: Mount your friends has half naked men with dick-physics. I would probably still play it

Some people have figured out that they get attention when they pretend to be offended. After a while they forget that they're pretending.

Sims 4?

Scarlett Johansson might play Zoe Quinn in a movie about Gamergate
The movie's being adapted from Quinn's as-yet-unpublished memoir Crash Override

I find both very unlikely.

So... exception handling? But cooler, I guess.
