One of the few movies where the Director's Cut is worse than the original studio cut.
See, Cameron wanted to add this awful hackneyed "oh look the aliens know we're violent and so decided to destroy us but then they learned what love is and nevermind" plot to the movie, in fact, that was how it was originally written. A plot that was old and cliche back when 12 To The Moon was made (and that nobody should have even bothered with after The Day The Earth Stood Still perfected the trope).
The studio made him cut most of it, partially because the tsunami effects were too expensive, partially for time. And in the process changed the aliens from antagonists to just innocent explorers coming to our planet to take a gander, and the movie was far far better for it.

This argument could be used as a justification for astrology.
True story: my wife was a telephone psychic for a time.

He's an expert at boat-freezers.
Well...you gotta keep some ice on hand to make the piña coladas.
-
I have my own opinions. I agree with other scientists, but that is not because I'm just parroting them.
Me too! Are we brothers?
-
I GUESS THESE PEOPLE ARE JESUS THEN, WALKING ON WATER AND SHIT.
What, exactly, do you think the ice is made from?
-
Also, global temperatures are projected to go up a hell of a lot more than the ~4 degrees celsius between the current temperature and the pre-glacial temperature.
Uh...what? Wait, are you still on that, "If we burned every molecule of oil and coal" thing?
How are we supposed to take serious anyone who says, "If current trends continue.."? Though, to be fair, NYC is buried in horse shit these days...
-
What, exactly, do you think the ice is made from?
Hey, look, I found The What The Daily What The Fuck Bible

The What The Daily What The Fuck Bible
And we like it that way.
Also, it was not pedantry just to be pedantic when you started your argument with some coastal zones going underwater and ended up with North Pole going underwater. One would reasonably assume you were talking about some mysterious landmass on North Pole being flooded.
-
Hey, look, I found The What The Daily What The Fuck Bible
Yep. But you don't like it, and you expect the entire forum to accommodate you. Maybe you should head back to tumblr.

See...but my response had a couple of interpretations:
@Fox said:

I mean, seriously, who would dump that much shit at the North Pole?
-
One would reasonably assume you were talking about some mysterious landmass on North Pole being flooded
Unless one were not a moron, in which case one would reasonably assume that, since I was talking about ice sheets and there is a rapidly degenerating ice sheet at the North Pole, that I was talking about that section of the ice sheet melting.
-
Also, the one that puts most coastal cities and mucj of Florida partially underwater is estimated for 2100.
the North Pole will probably be underwater after a few more hot years like 2015
Maybe you have changed the definition of 'underwater' in the meantime.
It's not like you consider having clear unambiguous definitions to be a valuable thing anyway.
-
I haven't personally estimated when the Arctic Ice Sheet will be gone or how much the sea levels will go up from that, but considering the North Pole will probably be underwater after a few more hot years like 2015, it probably won't last to 2050.
Read the whole fucking sentence, you pathetic waste of oxygen. That's more relevant to the context than an entirely different post.
-
I can guess what you intended to say.
Do you still (after all the people correcting you) maintain that your phrasing was correct?
-
Most people understand the proper meaning of the phrase I used, so yes, it was correct. The best phrasing? Maybe not. But it was correct. So fuck off, you pedantic dickweed.
-
Most people understand
Did you take a poll or something?
you pedantic dickweed.
Please instead.
-
Why should I, when I have been at least as much of a pedantic dickweed and grammar nazi in that other thread as anyone and still don't have either of those badges?

You seem rankled. You may want to take a couple of days off, chill out for a little bit, maybe have a little bit of Sangria and then come back when you are less hostile.
Or fuck off back to tumblr. Your choice.
-
You may want to take a couple of days off, chill out for a little bit
But how am I going to relieve stress if not by berating you?maybe have a little bit of Sangria
Fuck sangria, I prefer sake or vodka
come back when you are less hostile.
But berating you is cathartic.
-
Tricking you in to showing how big of an idiot you are is cathartic for me.

It's consistent with 30 cm per century @Fox said (well he said 3 m, but someone corrected him).
Even people who will be affected by 30 cm increase in 100 years have plenty of time tomove elsewherefind some moron to sell their luxurious waterfront property to.

Even people who will be affected by 30 cm increase in 100 years have plenty of time tomove elsewherefind some moron to sell their luxurious waterfront property to.But what's really interesting about that is that it was ~30cm / century before we'd "spewed" all that CO2. As Instapundit says, maybe I'll believe it's a crisis when the people telling me that it's a crisis start acting like it's a crisis.

Another climate change flamewar? Really? Wake me up when it gets back to abortion, that one's more fun
-
Wake me up when it gets back to abortion
We should support abortions: less people - less pollution - less global warming
I don't have a strong opinion on this. I believe it shouldn't be practised as just a contraception method.
In other cases (health reasons either for mom or strong indication child will be seriously ill <or trans :trollface>, rape victims, etc.) are okay AFAIC.
-
Fuck you, you obnoxious arsehole.
It's FEWER people!
-
Fuck
I'm ashamed.

Oh hey, look, another example of unprecedentedly awful, record-setting weather
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=3165&cm_ven=FB_BLOG_LB_102315_2
-
I thought weather was different from climate?
-
I bet all those guys off Baja California in their boat-freezers are laughing their asses off now.
EDIT - ILLUSTRATED!!!:
-
I thought weather was different from climate?
It is, but only when it contradicts AGW.
-
-
No, it's always different from climate, just like how a finger is always different from a hand, even though a hand generally consists of several fingers.
Fucking subsets, how do they work?
-
"Why are they called fingers? I never seem them fing. ... oh, there they go."
-
So you admit that your posted example of unprecedented record-setting weather is irrelevant?
-
Most people understand the proper meaning of the phrase I used
I don't recall that being the case.
So fuck off, you pedantic dickweed.
Did someone rustle your jimmies?
-
Why should I, when I have been at least as much of a pedantic dickweed and grammar nazi in that other thread as anyone and still don't have either of those badges?
Those badges are a privilege for us white, straight males.
Filed under: Which topic is this again?!
-
No, because it's yet another example of unprecedented weather. Returning to my hand example, these changes in weather are like if your fingers suddenly turned into Cheetos Puffs and you guys are still sitting around like "well, this is still normal, because my thumb's always kind of looked like a cheeto"
-

Like low tornado activity?

You must be really angry that we don't share your faith to come up with such ridiculous analogies and unscientific proclamations. I always get a chuckle when I troll climate nazis about a cold winter day after they've all told me about different weather things that totally prove their climate nightmares but any other weather is surely irrelevant noise.
-
ridiculous analogies
I've been dumbing down my argument more and more to try to get you people to understand it. But clearly you're beyond help, if you think a winter day being cold is evidence that climate change is false. How does it feel to look at a bunch of trees and think, "That's not a forest!" Just because you found a clearing in it?
-
I've been dumbing down my argument more and more to try to get you people to understand it.
I understand it just fine. That's not the problem at all.
But clearly you're beyond help, if you think a winter day being cold is evidence that climate change is false.
Now look who doesn't understand what other people are writing!
How does it feel to look at a bunch of trees and think, "That's not a forest!" Just because you found a clearing in it?
Transboreal?
-
But clearly you're beyond help, if you think a winter day being cold is evidence that climate change is false.
You think a summer day being hot is evidence that climate change is true, so how is that any different? You're clearly trying to have it both ways.
-
Bullshit. I think that every day being hotter, hurricanes being bigger, droughts being longer, flooding being worse, and ice sheets getting smaller is evidence of climate change.
-
How on earth did a thread about the dangers of Turkish terrorists, or whatever turn into a debate about climate change?!

That's nobody's business but the Turks.
