Jeff gets it off his chest

Chestbursters are just the third stage in the Alien life cycle. egg > facehugger > chestburster > adult. This cycle is not limited to the queens.

Okay then-- Chestbursters still follow a rigid development lifecycle. So again, can't be Jeff.

Ok, got me there.

Do I?

I mean, I dropped a single WTF and mentioned that markdown shouldn have the *issue* with escaped asterisks inside asterisks (which has been fixed). Don't think that's really negative.

It wasn't just negative. It was double negative!
Wait...
Also: My vote = "Did @lorne_kates find at least one Discobug in the past hour while just using the forum and not actively trying to break it?"
Hint: the answer is Yes. Yes, Lorne did find a bug in the past 59m (discotime)"

I think in this case it was more than just what we did over there. I dunno. I guess I could see how having a group of people that fairly consistently disagreed with nearly everything you thought could get old. It's just that you never expect to find someone in Jeff's position with such poor taste and judgment.
Jeff caters to
customersPHBs with money, not engineers. This, I believe, is the crux of the problem, as it allows him to ignore said engineers until/unless acustomerPHB complains. So when he says "complaint driven" product making, he didn't ever mean our complaints, regardless of how useful they were.
Making money and making sense don't always go together. That's why TDWTF forum exists in the first place. Jeff has, I believe, provided us material that could last for years (if he didn't keep deleting them, anyway).
EDIT (thanks @Onyx) ... oh, wait:
-
Oh, I don't know if he just proactively blocked everyone he banned from Meta.D or it happened after I favorited @boomzilla's tweet, but I went to look at his profile and saw this.

Will my IP be banned from viewing his blog next?
-
EDIT (thanks @Onyx) ... oh, wait:
It's always free, as long as you pay him.
Also, the free version isn't 100% open source.
Also also it'll break, so if you ask for it to be fixed, you'll be banned, and never get upgrades.
-
I went to @codinghorror to find something to troll, to see how many pokes it takes to get block. Then I saw this, and my brain imploded into a fugue state by the sheer lack of awareness:
-
Lucky, you can still see his tweets.

>When other developers ask for my help, I try to maximize my input by broadening my assistance to cover the way they're developing, how they could improve their typing form, what naming standard they use, to advocate a better code editing tool, and to give my educated final word regarding the whole stored procedure/dynamic SQL debate. > >Despite all of this, I keep facing resistance, and I don't think the team likes me very much. Many of my suggestions aren't adopted, and several people have replied with what I suspect is thinly veiled sarcasm. > > What's going wrong?

I've never actually encountered Jeff firsthand, but based on the screenshots I've seen of his actions, I feel confident in assuming that, despite there being no attribution for your quote, this is in fact a direct quote from Jeff. If it is not, I really think that it needs to be turned into an actual Daily WTF post, because I cannot think of a more perfect example of than responding to a simple request for help by telling the person that everything they do is wrong, even down to their choice of tools to use for doing said things.
EDIT: Upon further investigation, this is actually, hilariously, a hypothetical situation which Jeff somehow manages to rightfully identify as wrong.

I figured this would happen. I'm so proud. It's my first time getting blocked on twitter. Interestingly, the tweets where I mentioned him are in the Tweets and Replies view but not the basic Tweets view. I don't know if they get Jeff'd there when someone blocks you or if that's normal twitter.
-

Oooh ... look at that Boomzilla all getting big and grown up.
Ok, I'll get off your lawn now.
-
I feel confident in assuming that [...] this is in fact a direct quote from Jeff.
I doubt it. It's something he might have written, if he was that observant, but I don't think he is.

I wonder if he gets banned by his kids any time soon...

Yeah, we definitely need more of those "liberal studies" graduates in the unemployment lines.
-
@Discopeada's been blocked as well. Didn't even say anything that was negative. He's probably:
- Blocking people who directly contact him with an obvious WTDWTF connection.
- Doing a search for people that mention anything remotely related to WTDWTDF and blocking them.
- Failing at PR in the process.
-
If I were him I'd make a blog entry about the whole ordeal, regardless of the publicity it may gave us. I mean, if I were so confident I'm in the right I'd put it out and let the public review all the evidence and expect them to be on my side since it's obvious I'm in the right.
Right?
-
-
Well, it's either that or worry endlessly that we might tell it our way and have it blow up in his face.
-
That's the price of being honest. And standing by your decisions.
-
That's just normal twitter.
-
Interestingly, the tweets where I mentioned him are in the Tweets and Replies view but not the basic Tweets view.
I think in theory Twitter blocks are 2-way-- you can't see their stuff and they can't see your stuff.
Of course, since 99.9% of tweets are public anyway, you could just log out and see their stuff anyway. So maybe they just realized how silly the old system was and made blocks 1-way again.

I think at this point it's safe to say that Jeff is Heisenberg, and TDWTF is Mike's nine guys in prison....

@lornekates: "Isn't it more harmful in the long term-- for the community-- to arbitrarily block people perceived as negative, judged solely by a single person rather than the community? Doesn't the create a community that's a combination echo chamber and people afraid to voice their actual opinion, in case of reprisal?"
@wood: "TEH BLOCKEDD!"

So now all that remains is to get blocked from his blog's comment section....

I still have a long way to go:
-
Why don't you just stop pestering him? He obviously wants nothing to do with TDWTF at this point.
It was always a rocky relationship and it just didn't work out in the end. Time to move on and walk our separate ways. Don't be the creepy ex boyfriend who can't let go.
-
@Discopaedia's been blocked as well. Didn't even say anything that was negative.
What about the rest of the posts from that account? I could understand not wanting that to be linked with his twitter account...
-
Do you really want to know about his bowel movements?
-
Jeff Atwood (codinghorror)
I've started to realize that it's healthier to kick people out of a community once they've established an early pattern of negativity

Why don't you just stop pestering him? He obviously wants nothing to do with TDWTF at this point.
- My two interactions on meta.d were posting legitimate bug reports, to see what happened
- If he doesn't want anything to do with TDWTF, maybe making public statements to the effect of "I am teh awesome for banning TDWTF" isn't the best idea...
-
This is a fine addition
Looks like Twitter is Doing It Right. When I go to Jeff's main page, I can't see anything. But I can follow that link to his tweet and see it just fine.

You can't even send 'em to flip burgers, because that's all immigrants now.
-

I for one was leaving him alone on twitter. Until he started talking about us. Not by name, but still.
-
Because I'm more than what I am on WTDWTF. Maybe I would actually like to read someone's tweets without having to log out of twitter.
I never even pestered the guy on Meta.D nor Twitter, but if you're going to be an asshat like that and bring it into a major social network, maybe I should have the right to respond.
-
Comments from the banned are still showing up for me.
-
-
Favorited that on twitter.
-
Yeah, it doesn't stop people from replying, it probably just makes it so Jeff can't see tweets from people he's blocked.

A clear case of Discourse syndrome. I'm soooooo tempted to tweet that out, but I'm afraid I might be a bad influence on him.

I'm tempted to break in to their houses and shit in their shoes.

That'd show them how immature they are!
-
I kind of want to shit in your shoes also, FWIW.

Okay, I see a pun in there, so maybe it's intended to just be a pun and not a statement on how you should live your life, but whenever I see someone saying something negative about a very large category like "troll", I mentally replace the word with a synonym.
If you hang out with people who make internet jokes online, don't be surprised if you develop a high people who make internet jokeserence and end up becoming part of the problem.
