Pareidolia. Seeing stuff that isn't actually there...

Refreshed my memory of the "Midwest". Was surprised to be "reminded" that this includes MN, WI, IL, IN, MI, OH
Judging from the "tone" of the insult, I was guessing either of the Dakota's, Nebraska or Kansas. In an online game, I knew someone that was from Kansas. Nice Guy, spoke a lot about the benefits of living in Kansas.

Well, it was either that or cry. And nobody (few exceptions noted) wants to see a grown man cry. I think one of the "better" things he could offer was that his nearest neighbour was 40 miles away.

For raisons, that includes "stuff that looks back at you as you eat it", I don't eat any sea food. When I took my first proper girlfriend out to dinner, she ordered fresh trout. What arrived on her plate was like river -> line -> net -> broiler / baker -> plate. Somehow I managed to keep stuff down as I sucessfully worked my mojo
I've eaten fresh grilled trout, i.e. the only things they removed were the guts and scales. Didn't bother me any. *shrug*
No. I don't eat any seafood, I do enjoy some (I now realise I should have included that word) fish that have been properly filleted.
The terms "fish" and "seafood" are not mutually exclusive. The terms "freshwater fish" and "seafood" are mutually exclusive; by definition, freshwater fish does not come from the sea, while seafood does... so are you trying to say that you only eat freshwater fish (properly filleted, etc)? Because if you're trying to say that, it'd be much less confusing if you just said that.

TIL, so no. Shame, it would have been a nice "get out" otherwise

So Salmon are definitely only ever seafood? I mean, admittedly, that's when they're safest raw, but...
-
So Salmon are definitely only ever seafood?
I've seen people catch and eat young salmon in freshwater. Never had much luck with it myself.

That first pic actually looks more like a nude woman partly kneeling, albeit the head is a little wonky...
-
you live in the midwest. You've never had seafood
I live in the Midwest and I have definitely had seafood. We are not confined to our middle states, we are allowed to travel.
Hell, a few years ago we vacationed in Cape Cod. That entire places wreaks of seafood...that has been left to rot
ateon a beach.NFC why anyone would go to that place.

... so far.

Ben L, you live in the midwest. You've never had seafood. Only rotten disgusting shit left-over from the oceans where it's caught.
You know that Milwaukee is situated next to a honking big lake, right? It's within the realm of possibility he's had fresh freshwater fish.

Does not count.

Does not count.
Is this where you let slip that that's because of some weird-ass house rule definition of one of those words, like your headcanon definition of what a bug is?
I'm asking for a friend.

This goddamned new phone. It is autocorrecting and autocompleting all sorts of weird shit.

At least it wasn't fermenting ...
paging @Mikael_Svahnberg
Actually, if it was that fresh then it probably was fermenting right before @loose's eyes. Give it a few months and it would have been ripe.
-
I think he was talking about surströmming...
-
So was I.
I've been searching for the episode where Keith Floyd visits Sweden and tries surströmming. IIRC it included some high quality ranting, but alas it is nowhere to be found.
-
Cross posting (minus the spoiler) because it belongs in here:
GiS suggests that it doesn't actually, because it is what it appears to be.

I'll admit that I scrutinized it with about the same level of intensity as I read most posts around here.
-
Salmon is sort of an edge case (it is hatched and spawns in fresh water, but lives the bulk of its life in the sea), but considered seafood simply because it comes from the sea. I don't know if it's still considered seafood if it's caught young in fresh water, before it's ever been in the sea. I'd expect not.
-
You're seeing pareidolia where there isn't.
-
edge case
Ahh, good old edge cases.. :) Where would we be without them?
Stuck in a corner with nowhere to go, perhaps?
