New Windows OS

Well at least it isn't Enterprise. Narrow dodge, eh?
-
huh.... i didn't know i worked for microsoft...
-
Correct spelling is for losers who can't keep up with the times. You'll be telling people to get off your lawn next.
-

Been doing that for years... (but since I don't water it, it's just dead weeds now - works just as well)
-
THERE'S A NEW VERSION OF WINDOWS! 'BOUT TIME!
So long Vista!
-
How did this happen? Wouldn't a large company like Microsoft have this settled and locked like, months ago? This looks like some intern threw it together in five minutes.
Also long time lurker, first time poster
edit: The alt text for that image has it spelt correctly. Well okay then.
-
I don't get it.
-
Look carefully at the word before "Evaluation" in the screenshot.

To be fair, this is for test software that won't get officially released until the 1st. It probably didn't get the usual time and effort.
-
Were there typos in the early look builds of Windows 10? How much effort does it take to ensure that all of the text is spell checked? Especially since it is an image somebody had to create.
-
Were there typos in the early look builds of Windows 10?
No, and there aren't typos in this build either. There are typos on a website that will exist for a couple of days.
-
I prefer the Eaterpies edition. Mmm, eat pies.
-
It's just a matter of professionalism. I would feel mighty ashamed if large companies saw a silly error like that.
-
Oh I agree. My point is just that this is essentially a temporary page, so it's more likely to have a bug than most, and they probably care about it less than just about any other bug.

Fixed that for you.

Meh.
Could have been worse. Could have had the wrong explanatory text, like on the front page.
-
The word
before
?
-
Meanwhile in Germany ...
CAPITALIZATION FUCKERS, DO YOU KNOW IT?EDIT:
alt-text:Testen Sie die Features und Funktionen im Store für Windows 10
(Translation: Test the features and functions in the store for Windows 10.)
Which means they translated "in store" to something referring to an actual store.I think they also got that wrong ...
-
More wrongness:
title="Erfahren Sie, wie Sie die Wartung optimal nutzen, um die neuen Features Ihren Benutzern schneller bereitzustellen"
TDEMSYR
-
-
-
-
Der
pis in the wrong declension in Download der.... I'm guessing it needs to match Version, which is feminine, and it needs to be accusative case to boot; I think die would be correct. The word order of literally everything after der seems Just Wrong, too.
-
Probably TRWTF of the whole Windows 10 ordeal is this.
-
CAPITALIZATION FUCKERS, DO YOU KNOW IT?
They’re just showing how far ahead of everyone else they are by dragging German into the age of modern spelling, where only proper nouns and the first words of sentences are capitalised.Which means they translated "in store" to something referring to an actual store.
Par for the course for translations these days, if you ask me. Any kind of idiom, jargon or slang, and even everyday expressions that aren’t taught in your average language class, are bound to be mistranslated. I suspect it’s because there’s so much more being translated now than there used to be, that standards for hiring translators have dropped to alarmingly low levels, and time pressure on those translators is high enough that they go with their first impression instead of thinking through what the text is trying to say.

Enter pies?
-
I prefer the Eaterpies edition. Mmm, eat pies.
The one with the typo is the Jason Biggs edition.
see also above post.
-
Nah. That's in win8 too.
-
I'm pretty sure the Win8 version did that too.
-
Not back when I last tried it...
-
-
Will that actually fix it? Are they screwing up localization?
-
That was in Windows 8.
-
No idea, someone linked it to me in a gaming chat I read. @Yamikuronue probably knows which chat I mean even if she doesn't usually visit it.
-
It has a 9gag watermark. So... no.
-
@Eldelshell
It sounds like the actual fix is to use the Media Creation Tool to write an ISO to something (USB or DVD?) and run the installer from that instead of the downloader.
-
Yeah but the real question is, where did Reddit steal it from, that Facebook stole it from, that 9gag stole it from?
-
Doesn't matter; once it has a 9gag logo, it's shit.
-
What do I do if I'm an American in America and my locale is already set that way?
Answer: make sure I'm running as an administrator. Which I think I mentioned.
-
Doesn't matter; once it has a 9gag logo, it's shit.
What if someone finds a copy that doesn't have the 9gag logo?
-
It's forever tainted. Let it go.
-
It's forever tainted. Let it go.
So the taint goes back in time, that's what you're saying? I'm asking for @boomzilla.

I watched that for @RaceProUK, but apparently the
dildo
is censored in that version.
Also: Edge screws up spoilering in preview; instead of a blur, there's simply whitespace.
Oh, wait, look, pasting from the clipboard works in Edge!
-
Eww, spoilering is broken in the (half-)baked post, too: just a blank spot where the blur should be.
-
Cortana's seriously derpy after my fucking around with locale.
I'm pretty sure neither of those options are related to music searches.
I'm also pretty sure "Right now" is not a yes/no setting. Also that I have no company policy set on my fucking tablet. Also that "off" should not be indicated by a highlighted switch.
And it seems to have gotten into some weird state where it thinks it's on, but isn't - it'll show me the welcome "what I can do" text, but you can't do anything more that with the regular search (no voice activation, no "smart" prompts, etc.).
-
Cortana's seriously derpy after my fucking around with locale.
Serves you right, apparently, for not being American?
-
Meh, at least I can still leech Netflix off ya kind folks.
(Speaking of Netflix - why on earth is the taskbar always on in Metro apps, even in tablet mode? The only way to hide it that I found is the bog-standard auto hide, which works exactly like it did since Win95 - which means that on tablet, you need to very precisely hit the edge of the screen)
