Status: Getting really annoyed that I can't get a response from this convention I was considering renting a booth at. I've checked and my business e-mail is working on both the sending and receiving fronts. Having trouble getting any sort of response to anything on my personal e-mail too lately. But sure keep getting loads and loads of spam like fucking clockwork...
Edit: Seriously, I don't get why NewEgg sends me ten times the e-mail on my business account than my personal account. I've spent barely $1000 on the former and easily ten times that on the latter. Are they chasing "poor" me instead of "rich" me?

Woke up to parts of my house being without power.
I had that happen once. Turned out the power coming into the house (street side of the meter) was borked. One of the 2 hot lines was no longer hot. On a good note, PG&E fixed it pretty quickly.

I've just realized I put my headphones on minutes ago but I haven't actually put anything playing.
On the other hand my neighbour is playing scales, so it's still a win.

I do that rather often. Or I put them on to listen to some short video clip (which may turn out to not even have sound), and an hour later I realize I still have them on.

There's this bar I occasionally pass by as I take strolls by the sea.
They have a somewhat large tv parallel to the window, very visible from outside. Many moons ago the programme which was on was one of those where survivalists spend some time naked in the jungle.
And that's why now every time I think of that bar, I think of hairy ass.

Status: Curiouser and curiouser.
Apparently people have been searching "retro_toy_show 2024" on Google. I found a listing on some event scraper page with dates for almost exactly a year out from 2023 (shifted to land on a weekend). Still silence from Facebook, Wordpress, and the organizers themselves though...

Bottles is the trendy thing now.
TIL. Looks like a shiny clusterfuck.
I'll try it and report back. It can't be any worse than wine.
The game I couldn't get working on Windows worked first time. It wasn't too much of a pain in hole. Installing from a windows installer isn't the expected path so I'll give it something of a pass on that. I'll play for a few hours tomorrow and see how it goes.

Status: It's time for another episode of everybody's favorite game, Retail Distortion Field!
I ordered a set of furniture movers to put under some shelves so I could roll them around. They arrived two days later and worked well so I ordered three more from the same place.
: Seven days later, our hero is still waiting.
So on the desktop with Firefox, HomeDespot's order history doesn't work because of course. "Oops, something being kindly teh happened."
The tracking link in e-mail is no help. It's not to FedEx, no, why do that when you can have a custom page that shows no information.
So I go to an iPhone with Safari. Surprise, my order history is there. Must be another "only works in Chrome" website. But, surprise again, the tracking button puts up a similar page as order history did in Firefox. "We were unable to retrieve your shipping details. Please being kindly refreshing the page and trying again even though that never fucking works because the problem isn't transient you retarded orcs."
Whoever invents that device to let me strangle people over HTTP is going to be a trillionaire overnight.
-
@Zenith for some reason āretarded orcsā is an amazing insult, I love it.
-
@Zenith I had to call to get actual FedEx tracking info and it turns out they haven't even handed off to FedEx yet. The survey at the end of the call asks you to record a message on why you rated that way after the beep and hit # when finished. That pause is just long enough to get out "your website is terrible" before it cuts you off.

Status: trusted the markings on the PCB, spent additional 2h on replacing a dried-out capacitor.
So there's this old commie-era amplifier, which was produced in 2 variants. The newer variant (PW-9013) had some optimizations, for example they changed this:
to this:
Ok, less elements (no C115 and R129), works basically the same, you get a bonus.
Did you notice the polarity of C118 and C122? Yep, me neither. But it's reversed. Is it marked so on the PCB? Not in my specimen - it has the same old PCB, only with a wire in place of C115 and no R129.
The amplifier started losing gain in one channel. After pinning down the problem with an oscilloscope, I removed the faulty C118 (after 40 years failure is expected) and put a new cap according to markings. Fu&^(%. Doesn't work at all, T105 is saturated, like really, with U_BE higher than U_CE. I spent quite a while wondering where this current comes from. It was coming from the reverse-charged new cap.
Years ago, when I heard someone describing this model as "hard to repair" I laughed. I mean, it's simple as a hammer, only 6 transistors per channel, what can be difficult about this? Well...

That's always good practice. Especially if the client accuses you of damaging something that was already damaged before.

Status: Just got a 512GB USB stick and told Time Machine to create a backup on it. But since I currently use only ~265GB of the mac's internal SSD, I figured it doesn't need all the capacity and configured a usage limit of 300GB. I assumed that would mean it creates a second volume with the remaining 212GB. It didn't. The volume says it's got a capacity of 300GB, I can't use it to manually copy other files on it, and yet there's no volume to use the remaining space.
Whatever. So I just created a second volume manually. Meanwhile it's been making that backup for the last 2-3 hours, but has barely copied anything yet and is still "computing remaining time".
Also, the copied and remaining numbers don't add up to the capacity number.
But at least it manages to actually do this stuff in the background with zero impact on using the computer. Unlike some other retarded OS. ļ ŗ
