@ben_lubar Permanent bans should not exist. Maximum length should be 99 years, and if you're still around after that, fuck it, you deserve your account back.
That's probably going to become a problem once gene therapy and synthetically-grown organs become affordable and reliable (which may happen in our lifetimes).
There's a lot of cool stuff currently being developed by various cutting-edge science-related organizations.
I'm sorry. I know this is not the everybody-pile-on-@fox thread, but that was the most blatant blanket statement I've seen since the pope said that 'some aspects of what Darwin wrote ought to be considered further'.

Every just flies higher.
Or lower.
Or opens the gun turrets.

Meh, the Something Awful forums have the best system.
Limited browsing is free.
Posting + archives require an account. A paid account.
If you get banned, tough shit. Your account is gone. But you're more than welcome to sign up again. And pay again.
And be an idiot again and get banned again.
And keep giving Something Awful $10-$20 per pop.
Also users can pay to change an avatar or account text. Not just theirs. Anyone's.
-

So just some sanity checking: can they also pay to be able to change
topicthread titles?
-
@Lorne-Kates do I get my money back if I delete what I posted?

No, you can't delete your own posts randomly, because they use real form software.

Sounds like a great system to keep me from ever posting there.

If you mean I'm missing the part where it's supposed to be an accomplishment... yes. Yes, I am.

@Lorne-Kates to be fair, SA has its own brand of forum scum. for every BYOB there's an FYAD gas chamber.

the most blatant blanket statement I've seen
And that's a problem in this scenario why? I made it extremely broad because what I am referring to is extremely broad. Scientific advancements on the horizon range from curing cancer and AIDS to reanimating dead brain cells to highly advanced artificial intelligence to light-based computing systems to... you get the idea. There's a lot of cool shit coming from virtually every area of the scientific community. Therefore, blanket statement.

It's all in the Discopocalypse thread. https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/17231/wtf-how-can-this-be-so-wrong-aka-the-discopocalypse-thread

It was so broad as to be meaningless to people who are not the maker of the statement who had specific things in mind. If you'd followed with your examples it would have had some meat on its bones.

Or maybe it means you should go look up some science news. From just about any source.
-
@Fox No, it definitely doesn't mean that.
-
-
@HardwareGeek Yeah, probably not, but that's actually not entirely out of the question in this case. Though virulence of such a trait would be nonexistent as far as I know, so a zombie apocalypse situation will have to wait for another type of zombie. Or a weaponized version of the failed treatment. Just to be safe, might want to learn how to use a spear, sword, crossbow, etc.

dunno why someone would pay to post in a forum with so many free ones available

oh, it's a one time fee. sounds like a great anti spam measure.

@mods Have we had any spambots since the nofollow update on 2016-07-12?
-
@ben_lubar Looking at the banned user list, I don't think so.

Great! Now can we scrub out the ones that made it before the fix happened?

They've all been deleted already. Also, I think the html is generated on the fly, so any that survived should get the nofollow treatment.
EDIT: Just checked and yep, that's correct.

Seems kinda more like the assholes would pay the fee to post their very important opinions and the regular people would just fuck off and find a forum that's free.

#2, He basically said, "Stuff does stuff". No shit? It would be hard to post something more useless.

SEO is peanuts to Amazon referral links. All you have to do is trick somebody into clicking an Amazon link with your referral code, and you earn a small share of what they spend for one day. You'll earn slightly more if they specifically buy whatever product you linked them to.

You mean like going to the moon when the whole of NASA had less compute ability than a 1990's graphing calculator? That shit was amazing.

Granted, the math isn't all that impressive once you know how it works and have all the data...

Therein lies the rub. How do you know you have the data until you attempt it?

That really doesn't have a whole lot to do with using calculators, though, does it?

Easy: if you don't have all the data, you end up with variables left in your equations after you plug in all the data you have. The real trick is making sure your equations actually work.
-
@boomzilla No I don't. I just realize that there's a lot more cool shit being done now.

Well, my algorithm is idempotent, which has at least 4 syllables, so you know it's good.
