(I wanted to link the article I'm referring to but I have trouble finding it. The one about a city employee denying applications for stupid reasons because she thought it's a test system.)

I was under the assumption that every entity was a monster, including the player? I suppose I should play
morePathfinder.

@Gąska said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

Incorrect.
Ruining the "joke" here.
The spell works on "any living creature" compared to the lower level spell "Hold Person" only working on humanoids. So, in this case, it's trying to make a joke based on the literal spell name, but falls flat if you played Pathfinder/D&D enough to know about those spells.
As to why it's named "Hold Monster" and not something else, I'd guess that the names "Hold Person" and "Hold Monster" probably flow off the tongue better than "Hold Humanoid" and "Hold Living Creature".

apparently random way genders are assigned to German nouns
That's basically the case, to varying degree, with all Indo-European languages except English.
English assigns genders to some things, such as ships and the sea.

When I first got my bike, my friends were call theirs as if they were female. So I decided mine was male.

It's really a veritable compendium - loading and loading all over, unskippable fake cutscenes, yanking controls before you can save so you have to go through loading and watching shit all again if you want to make a different choice or forgot something, traders all over the map, inventory bloat, savegame bloat (GUIDs stored as strings among other things) and, I suppose, creating the invisible toons to determine attack numbers on Inspect thing mentioned in WTF Bites actually making my 5900X kneel. If you ever get to be a design lead, it might be professionally useful. Otherwise probably not so much.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity Does it load more than Sonic 2006? Which reloads everything on any change of state, so going into cutscene, leaving cutscene, starting mission, ending mission. Even if they take place in the exact same map/location.
-
@Atazhaia I haven't played Sonic 2006, but the way you describe it, almost. It doesn't have any cutscenes as such - it's just unvoiced word balloons that stay on screen way longer than necessary and can't be skipped. On that note, Pillars 2 Arena DLC had this to ridiculous proportions. Some big ham going on and on "Let's get ready to RUMMMBLEEEE!" while I couldn't wait for it to fuck off and let me actually play (and have my ass handed to me in 30 seconds, and go through it all over again, because you're not allowed to save while in combat, you dirty scummer).
All Unity-based CRPGs (Expeditions, Wasteland 2 and 3, Pillars 1 and 2, both Pathfinders) have excessive loading times. It's not even storage speed, it's some behind the scenes (for science purposes I put the entire game on ramdisk - no meaningful difference whatsoever). Inxile eventually found some way to optimize it in Waste-time 3, but had the gall to state that it's save scummers will be overjoyed and not that it's a disgrace to the industry to have all this multi GB/s hardware in year 2020 and yet we're all still staring at progress bars.
I know I've ranted here (in more appropriate thread, I believe) about savegame bloat, too. Kingmaker endgame quicksave (and quickload) was anything but quick. The poor CPU could only do so much zipping those 500 MB of text files over and over.

Maybe something really retarded like that thread where after some years an external dev finally fixed an O(n^2) Shlemiel in the loading code. (Down in libc, no less, iirc)

If it's to do with libc, it's got to be something else, but one of the more recent retarded Schemiels in vidya was this one:

Or the playthrough of slowbeef and Diabetus, where you can feel the despair increasing over time. Even with Diabetus who doesn't even have to play the damn thing. Also, for the awesome credits songs reactions. Because, you know, Sonic 2006 forces you to sit through the credits 4 times because the people making it really wants you to know who made it.
