@Tsaukpaetra Ooh, and another one!
So I found this video of making a low-tech death whistle.
<video in video, screeching whistle noise>
That sounds amazing.
Can you imagine what it was like for me, wearing somewhat-decent headphones at a good enough volume to hear him clearly, when WHEHEHSSSHSHSHSHSHS!!!!!

Fuck yeah, we need to post this on TDWTF without warning like RIGHT NOW

No no, you got it right.

All this talk about birds in The Lounge made me think of this:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Biagyb7AcK8
TIL the males actually make a special sound by flying up, diving down and then wooshing by the female they're trying to woo.

I had forgotten about the tales of Charles Upham. An all-time favorite of mine and a truly great person of this world.
My favorite anecdote:. While a POW and attempting to escape he gets tangled in barbed wire. German guards discover him and he refused to extricate himself from said barbed wire. He kicks back, lights a cigarette and just taunts them. One of the guards points a rifle at him and threatens to shoot him. Upham puffs on his cigarette and tells the guard:
"I refuse to be shot by a corporal. Bring back an officer."
They did.

Irish folk are killing it on good YouTube content. I really enjoy Qxir, and "That Chapter" is another of my faves. Both Irish, both have amazingly good content.

This video has another one linked to it which is not so much a song so I'm putting it here:

Here she's giving a crazy performance on a single snare drum, but most of all there's this funny introductory bit at 0:25.
-
@JBert Listening/watching, it felt like the video missed a few frames. Looked like it couldn't keep up with the speed of the sticks!
-
@dcon It's a case of the wagon-wheel effect.

I watched a video of a different performance of the same piece (without the intro, unfortunately). It's amazing the variety of sounds from a single drum.
-
@HardwareGeek But did that one include the bit of explanation about drum sticks in the beginning of this video?
-
Dunno if his videos have been posted here, but I dig what he does.
What he does is useless and pointless, but he digs down through the layers of abstraction to get you close to the metal and anyone but @HardwareGeek could probably learn from him. The only reason that he can't is because he dates back to primates smacking rocks together to "compute" things.

I haven't watched the video because it's late and I have an early morning meeting, but I will take the time before going to bed to say .

Other stuff on the channel also worth watching; I trust you can figure it out

I like how he tries to keep things true to scale-life as possible. Toy crane to deposit the cement?

Apparently missed it by a day-or-so...

@Mason_Wheeler now that's what I call satisfying!

You can definitely tell when the wars are. The US Civil war (1861-65) was interesting, though the Confederates didn't show up in the chart.
-
I near to had a heart attack watching him take this apart and having to reassemble it but the maniac fucking did it and it went from losing a minute per day to gaining 2 seconds per day. Plus it looked awesome, of course.
-
I don't follow LockPickingLawyer, but every now and then one of his videos will show up in YT's suggestions. In this case, he demonstrates what just may be the easiest-to-use picks ever for some of the most common house locks and padlocks in the US.

Never heard of MQA. Apparently it's a gimmicky attempt to poorly "enhance" lossless audio?

I feel that this belongs in here:

I've watched a fair amount of crap about Roswell and such. To be fair, for a while The History Channel was all alien BS and sometimes that was the least insufferable thing on TV. Then I watched this:
It is hands down the most plausible explanation for the controversy that I've ever seen and it was made by a YouTube shitposter. Like, I'm 99.99% convinced that this is what happened.
No conspiracy theories here. Watch it.

This is where I'd normally have a pithy or offensive comment, but this could have been me. Ya know, if I were Irish and born 150 years earlier.

I watched this video and concluded that I should never have had a chance at being a programmer at old school Atari. There are a near infinite number of ways that I would have totally fucked all of that up.
