edit: with the added fun that if the 4 used only remotely expire, then NLA doesn't allow you to get to the login screen to actually change them, so you're stuck and need to raise a ticket to have it reset.
If you have access to a computer in the same forest, you can change them from your local machine: the "change a password" dialog isn't just for changing your password, it works for any password.
This is what we do on my team. If one person's let their password expire they'll just ask someone else to log in and bring up the change a password screen. With remote working it's a bit more of a hassle but remote desktop and giving control on a teams screen share works

Status: Well, the hammer came down at 2PM. eBay decided I need to join Mangled Payments or else. And I choose else.
So no more toy sales for me until conventions open back up. God I hope later summer or early fall isn't too optimistic.
yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why exactly they decided to do that. Is there some real benefit to the sellers for it (I can't imagine there is...), or for them (They are paypal, so what's the difference?).
For three more weeks you can blame it on the year
-
@sloosecannon They supposedly spun off PayPal five or so years ago. I say supposedly because many people think it's only a pretend separation. They've shared many managers and often act in lockstep.
There's no benefit to sellers whatsoever and in fact a number of disadvantages.
I've heard on many occasions that once a company has access to a bank account, it can't be revoked (that was why I had to close the one Amazon knew about). I don't know if it's because it's some sort of naive 1960s protocol that assumed nobody would ever abuse it or what. As eBay has suffered a few breaches (that I know of) since I've been a seller (and is stuffed to the brim with H1Bs), I don't trust them.
They're not doing immediate payments anymore either. You wait a week or two for a disbursement, just like on Amazon. But you still need to ship right away or else. Meanwhile, eBay collects interest on the float.
If you have a PayPal working capital loan (luckily I don't), there's now another hoop to jump through to pay it. It might be the same way with shipping labels, which people used to use PayPal to pay for, but I don't know because I hate their label process and never use it.
They've also restricted categories that don't or won't support Mangled Payments due to the underlying agreement with Ayden. eBay currently has no answer for what sellers in those categories are supposed to do. Knowing their track record with communication, they'll just up and shut them down with five minutes notice.
eBay's been automating stuff like returns, refunds, penalty fees, etc. Now being in more direct control of that allows them to do whatever they want without notice. They already have refunds and returns effectively out to six months. Plus fees go up from 10% to something like 20% if you fall below standard (due to eBay meddling) and can't get out (due to eBay meddling).
They also charge a fee per listing in a multi-item sale. Under Paypal, there's just one 29c fixed transaction fee plus 14% on the combined total. Mangled Payments has an additional fee (I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 29c) per listing. So I have no idea where the "less" in "most sellers will pay the same or less" comes from. The rates are the same on singles and more on multiples.
It's such a losing proposition. I mean shipping is going up 7% again, new freight rules are making it harder to buy shipping supplies, they're charging sales tax, they're charging fees on sales tax, and eBay is the only online venue that, through its own stupidity and manipulation, can only muster low single-digit growth when e-commerce is growing by leaps and bounds every year (let alone during this stupid lockdown). I'm done with them.

I sure hope this is an extra zero because otherwise whoever wrote this doesn't understand how percentages work:
And because most people are doing their Christmas shopping online, our iconic white collection boxes aren’t being filled. This week I volunteered at a local Toys for Tots warehouse, and was saddened to hear that their locally donated toy-count is currently down by about 300% from last year.

No, it means negative donations, which I guess means people are stopping by to steal toys out of the boxes until they're empty and then some ().

Status: Tried installing the new Radeon update; it hard locked the system during the "detecting compatibility" phase of the installer, same as the previous one. Tried uninstalling the Radeon software entirely for a fresh start; it locked up during the uninstall, looked like it successfully uninstalled anyway, and the latest installer froze during install anyway. System restored to before uninstalling, and now I'm installing a Windows update (2004) in hopes that maybe that will fix whatever's wrong and let me update my video drivers, which is all I wanted in the first place.
-
@hungrier Update: It appears all my files are right where I left them. Now, will my video driver update be able to install?
-
@hungrier Radeon driver? Well, there's your problem.

@hungrier Update: No.

I am forever perplexed that manufacturers don't just invoke the built-in Windows driver installer for their shit. What's with this "detecting compatibility" shit? The manifest fucking tells you if it's compatible or not!

Because the video files weren't right where you left them!
-
@dcon Worse, they were right where I left them, which was in some kind of broken state.
Further Update: I've managed to remove the existing Radeon software using AMD's cleanup utility (I had to run it twice in safe mode), then tried manually installing the display driver. That froze in normal mode, so I tried again in safe mode and it appeared to have worked. Restarting in normal mode, the pre-Windows black screen looked promising, as I could freely move the mouse cursor between my two screens, both running at full res. Then one of them went to sleep, and after Windows started I saw that the display was actually running with "Microsoft Basic Display Driver".
Device Manager shows the Radeon driver installed but not working because "it has reported problems (Code 43)", and doesn't even have an entry for the MS Basic driver any more.
-
Update: Somehow I've managed to install a working version of the latest optional drivers. It looks like the Radeon software is completely fuckered - it displays a system tray icon that does absolutely nothing and can't bring up the main window, and uninstalling it doesn't work. But at least the display works, I can use both monitors and do a FurMark test, so for now I'll leave it. I suspect actually fixing it so everything works properly will take either getting a new(er) video card, reinstalling Windows, or both
-

I hear they're plentiful these days.
Drivers & software is one of the remaining areas where Nvidia are better than AMD.

If graphics cards are like any other piece of technology, it's very likely the device lies about its true specs/capabilities via the standardized protocols (for compatibility purposes, of course) and you need some super secret sauce to convince it to show its true colors. Also, the driver itself may have 50 different versions of the same binary depending on what it thinks works best in the current situation.

Status: underwhelmed by Cyberpunk 2077.
Even ignoring the bugs... So far I feel like I have no freedom at all, and the interactions with NPCs and the world feel very limited.
I'm hoping it's just because it's the tutorial section.
I wanted something more like futuristic GTA. Right now it feels like watered down Deus Ex. I think I'd rather be playing that.

You exhaust the optional lines until you're left with the one that goes forward. It's more of a vine than a tree.

That's been my experience in most games that offer dialogue. For example, my playthrough of The Observer. You can extend the talking, but why bother?
-
@error after a couple hours of Cyberpunk, it feels like it's mostly an adventure game. The focus is very clearly on the story, characters and scripted sequences. The main differentiator from other games is the number of branching story paths - tiny choices throughout the entire game that you don't even realize are there, but have significant impact on how the story plays out. The problem is that you don't notice it until a second playthrough where you do things slightly differently. One reviewer I checked out said that on his first playthrough, he somehow missed out completely on one major character and the associated questlines that he completed on second playthrough, and he's still not sure what made it so.

If this is primarily an adventure game like @Gąska said, this isn't unexpected. The Monkey Island series used the same pattern, and it worked because the side questions often gave hints (or just an interesting story), and the snarky choices were hilarious.
-
@Zerosquare the difference is that Monkey Island wasn't marketed as a GTA-like FPS.

But who trusts games marketing nowadays?

My feeling is that's really not very far in. It's only really after the Heist plays out that things are really opened up.
Also, it looks frankly fantastic on even 5 year old hardware. (Yes, it isn't using 4k textures or ray tracing or stuff like that, but my card supports lots of other features that the game can use to look great anyway.) Only a few bugs so far, and those don't appear to be graphics-driver related. Also the occasional bit of pop-in (but that's not technically a bug).

I'm seeing something kinda similar, although not nearly as bad, on my Ubuntu laptop. When one particular window has the focus, another window is flashing subtly. Currently, the entire window is flashing in sync with the cursor blinking in the window that has focus, but earlier, parts of the window were flashing not in sync with anything.

Damned if that doesn't describe everyday life in a so-called "free" country these days. One brand, one type, one color, one size, one model, one process, only ever one of anything because we all have to think, look, act, and be exactly the same.

I frequently get that on my ubuntu also. Clicking in that window (or sometimes just mousing over it) is enough to fix it. (No, I don't want any fucking translucency on those windows! It's almost always my bash windows)

Status: Potentially finally playing Cyberpunk 2077 tonight.
After my PS4 refused to download the game for whatever reason and after I spent literally 1,5h on the support hotline, all I got was a refund, which I used to buy the game on GOG and a one-month GeForce Now subscription, since my PC's graphics card sucks. I downloaded the app, paired my PS controller with the TV itself and started the game, hoping to finally be able to play the game on my couch, as I planned.
I've been in the queue for another 1,5h for the second time today. As if it wanted to mock me, Geforce Now has been telling me a VM will be available in less than a minute for an entire hour.
I'm not even mad anymore, this shitshow is starting to be funny.

Well, even if I wanted to upgrade, which I don't, because PC is not my preferred platform, NVidia's supply problems make it pretty hard to get a proper graphics card right now. I figured that it'd be cheaper and easier to rent the computing power, which would have the benefit that I could play on the highest settings without any issues.
And, you know, theoretically, I'd probably be right, if there weren't thousands of other people who had exactly the same idea this week.
