Thursday I took a small walk to the park. Fitbit clocked me in at 5k steps for the day. Which is basically nothing and what I usually get just from walking to work / lunch without doing much else.
I could literally feel the blood pumping through my legs’ veins when I sat back down. I wasn’t in any way exhausted, but it was still worrying that I apparently get that little movement anymore.

Status: I'm never going to buy anything that comes with uplay again, or probably any PC game, at least it comes with any kind of "launcher" garbage. It is a pretty nice game, but I haven't spent too much time playing it and so far have spent just as much time waiting for it to download updates.
It downloaded 2.5GB of updates last weekend and it's downloading another 850MB right now. You literally cannot play the game without an administrator account because you always have to install updates. And the offline mode doesn't work, it will simply tell you there's updates available and you need to enable online mode to install updates. FUCK. YOU.
The ticket to support I wrote a few months ago was closed (by someone who didn't read / understand it) telling me that this was intended behavior. How fucking hard is it to understand that if I set the game to offline mode it shouldn't fucking constantly check for updates and then outright refuse to start if I don't install them. How the fuck is "the game refuses to start even though it could" intended behavior. The game fucking worked before those updates, keep them were the sun don't shine.I will literally rather burn the heaps of disposable income I'm not spending on anything than to support this again.

I regularly leave pieces behind while exercising ... because of unexpected bike disembarking, close encounters with trees or bushes and the like.

status: laughing my ass off. Apparently the SVN drive is corrupted (I assume bitrot) and nobody knew until they got an error and trying to open the "backup" (which was a zip file stored on the same drive) also failed to open.

Yeah. I told them it was a shortsighted idea. They said "it's just until it gets uploaded to s3".
They're currently attempting to download the s3 backup to try that version. Also technically the first time a restore has been tried.

Anno 1800. Complained about it here (or probably WTF bites) once or twice some months ago.

@topspin My strategy with Ubisoft games is to buy them so they get their money, then pirate it so I can circumvent the uPlay 'experience'.

So, an update on this:
Item #2, shipping updated that Monday to say it'd actually been picked up. I'm betting they just actually claimed it shipped (and specified UPS as that is how they would've shipped it) and sat on it. But it still arrived before their "expected by" date.
Item #1 finally arrived... alongside two other packages from the same shipper, JapanCrate. See, back in March, I decided I still wanted to do a foreign snack box and after having been bitten by NEETsnacks (which heavily implied a Japanese focus but gave mostly Chinese stuff), I bit the bullet and subscribed.
Come the 20th of March, they said they shipped a box themed for April, expect it in 2-4 weeks. Then April 1st, they say they need to charge shipping since Japan Post has practically shut down.
Come the 20th of April, they shipped the May box, don't expect it until June 15th at the latest, then follow-up with "yeah, a bunch of the April boxes got returned to us by Japan Post, so we'll need to charge shipping for them and ship them again" and do so.
Come the 20th of May, they claimed to have shipped the June box. At this point, I still hadn't received anything. I don't deny that makes me seem somewhat of a dupe, but hey, everything's a shitshow right now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Come the 1st of June, I figure, you know what, lemme open a support ticket. So I ask, and get a bog-standard "April crates had to be reshipped, please be patient" reply, but OK, I did ask a number of questions in my ticket and about that crate was in it.
So, I see on their site they now specifically mention they'll be shipping via DHL Express and expect 2-5 days (versus their old 2-4 weeks on free shipping), and I follow-up, trying to cut down my questions to specifically "since we paid for shipping these crates, will there be any tracking?" and "will the new express shipping remain after Japan Post re-opens?"
I get the same bog-standard "April crates had to be reshipped, please be patient" reply from another support person. Word for word. So, back and forth after figuring out some things on my own, and finally I have two working DHL eCommerce tracking numbers (the second one apparently was held up by Customs) and suddenly get an email for DHL Express. At the very end of it, one of the packages was "expected" June 20th, the other two June 22nd.
Status: Here I am, on June 20th, snack boxes for April, May, and June all arrived today, and since I'm still subscribed, a July themed snack box is supposed to ship today from Japan, supposedly with 2-5 day shipping.
On the plus side, hopefully none of the snacks I now have or will get soon will be anywhere near as bad as the "American Cola" potato chips, or the "Extra Strength Matcha Milk Candy" from that other box.

It's not normal. UPlay games don't normally do that. Or Steam, or Epic.

One? Lol, two!
Of course it pops up UAC because it wants to figure out if it can update. Which it almost always can, because there's a GB of updates every week. But, annoying as it is, I could deal with clicking "no" and "fuck off" a few times at every start. The real problem is that in "offline mode" you can skip the updates (and cloud game saves or whatever else dumb feature I don't need), but offline mode intentionally stops working after awhile. Where "awhile" is basically almost as short an amount of time as the time between updates.
Out of interest are you getting the UAC popup when Uplay is already started? Because for me when I start Uplay it gives me a UAC popup. Once it's started the games don't pop up a new UAC prompt unless there was a patch.
Even bigger LOL considering that Uplay normally wants to start with windows.
But again, the problem isn't telling it to fuck off (all you can do assuming you're not the admin) but it refusing to work unless you update.

Unfortunately I haven't pirated games in a long time so I wouldn't be sure what is safe to install and what will be buggy or malware. I do very much feel like I've already paid for the right to crack this garbage.
-
@topspin I pretty much stopped buying PC games at full price when this idiocy became overbearing. You want to rent games, fine, I'll pay what I would've paid Blockbuster.
-
@Zenith same here. But I never paid Blockbuster any money. So far working great, especially on Epic Store.

TL;DR: Ben flipped out and started banning people for bigotry. Alex stepped in and restored the status quo ante, except Ben resigned (or "resigned") as admin and quit the forum, and Alex is in the process of setting up a new admin team who will establish clear policies (TBD) and appoint mods to enforce them. Best guess at this point is that the policies won't be a lot different than what we're used to, but clearly spelled out and enforced even-handedly.
Edit: Also, severe cooties due to people downloading their profiles.
