At least mine's still up this morning. Just took a power hit... Luckily it turned back on in about 10 seconds. But that was probably long enough to kill the radio, oven, etc... Time to reset clocks.

I don't mind giving help to members of the community who post an occasional help thread.
But I feel differently about Internet randos who made an account specifically to get free tech support.

@Applied-Mediocrity The modding community can't distribute Minecraft, obfuscated or otherwise. Distributing a mapping file lets you take your own, legally-obtained copy of the same version of Minecraft and decompile it into something that has sane names. Making that mapping file in Excel makes it easier to change when a new version of Minecraft comes out and all the obfuscated names change.
What's really weird is that Microsoft has committed to continue to release Minecraft obfuscated by Proguard, and yet have also committed to create and release this file themselves since last September.

@Applied-Mediocrity that’s why I stopped asking, because if I had asked “but why?” for another 5 rounds it would’ve looked like trying to be annoying.
I thought you were asking why my mod needed obfuscation, and the answer to that is that the linking would be all fucked if their code was obfuscated and mine wasn't. Note that the mods are literally replacing the core classes with our modded versions via the classloader.

Yes, I did, because it didn't/doesn't make fucking sense. Of course, that's not your fault.

I wrongly assumed there's some kind of plugin architecture, so that it can load your classes whatever they are and only the original classes remain obfuscated.
But then none of this obfuscation garbage makes any sense to begin with, so

There's a plugin architecture that's been literally injected into the original game by modders by repacking JAR files and writing custom modloaders. Microsoft is trying to create a new one for the Bedrock engine (which, I think(?) is .NET based, rather than Java), but it's not mature yet and doesn't have the same functionality.
The original obfuscation process seems vestigial at this point, as Microsoft is not so averse to people looking at the source as Notch was.

Sounds like removing it at this point would break all current mods and kill the ecosystem.

I'd agree except that minor version increments already break all current mods and require them to - at minimum - be recompiled. Usually there are breaking API surface changes, too.

In a conference call, concern was raised that a change may not have been adequately tested before production.
I joked, "we'll just let the end users test; I'm sure that's fine."
It totally ed on everybody on the call. (Worse, they agreed with me.)

Supporting a certain dependency version does not mean it's been tested and found to work to satisfaction.
It just means support won't immediately toss out the ticket when they see it.

Negative. Spectrum, for one (oh God I'm actually repping spectrum...) does not. At least not in my area.
Only because FCC allowed merger of Charter and Time Warner Cable on the condition that they don't implement data caps for 7 years. If you're a heavy user, expect a sudden price hike in 2023.
Hmm, that explains it. They're the kind of company that'd do it too, so I was surprised they didn't. Makes sense...

Every block only stacks three high and can't be layered horizontally. I don't know if this is a game update, Switch port problem, or I'm missing something. And it's been midnight for almost an hour so it's not like I can venture around to find anything else to work with.

Status: Today was spent hunting down a weird bug that initially looked like memory corruption (but that was just a trivial C library/header versioning mismatch problem). After that, it just looked strange: the program would apparently merrily terminate itself straight after sending its first outbound message.
It was actually a buffer overrun in some unnecessary post-send buffer clearing code where the variable immediately after the buffer was a flag that would, when set to zero, make the app quit, and the spot where the test for that was immediately after the call of the message send function in the main timer interrupt.
The calculation producing the overrun had been there for a while — many years, probably ever since the code was written — but hadn't actually been tested with enough data to trigger the overrun for real until a few days ago.
I believe at this point that it is entirely unnecessary to clear that buffer.
I've not quite finished the fix. Don't want to work past 6pm or beer-o-clock, whichever comes first…

Yeah... you'll need some patience. I've been job hunting non stop since March. Companies have uniformly told me to fuck off and try again in late June.

@anonymous234 that's encouraging (not) because I'm in that same boat, but without the being told to check back later. Just radio silence.

@Tsaukpaetra EA's Origin client has been focus-stealing for a while now but in a weird way: The client is still minimized and resides only as a symbol. And yet it steals the focus every two minutes.
Then again, this is nothing new. Last time they goofed things up one of the games was on autostart. And before that quite a lot of people had to hit them with a clue-by-four that "Minimize to task tray on startup instead of fullscreen and steal focus" is quite the thing to do.
