LogSavePackage: Warning: A dependency 'PrimaryAssetLabel /Script/Engine.Default__PrimaryAssetLabel' of 'LevelSpecific_C /Game/LevelSpecific/LevelSpecific.Default__LevelSpecific_C' was filtered, but is mandatory. This indicates a problem with editor only stripping. We will keep the dependency anyway (1).
Now, WTF does that mean?!?! What could be the problem? Are there any docs? What did I do wrong?!!?
All I want to do is eliminate duplication in the build (which is inflating the build by 1.5 GB), but is this in any way simple or easy? NO! Of course not!!!

The datasheet of SAMD21 says that it has an "Ultra Low Power 32kHz Oscillator" that is always on (barring Power On Reset state), and has 32k and 1k outputs. It does not say where those outputs are connected. I know that at least the BOD is connected to the 32k output. But what does it use the 1K output for?
First thing that comes to mind is the SysTick timer. So I look up that section, and I quote:
The System Timer is a 24-bit timer that extends the functionality of both the processor and the NVIC. Refer to the Cortex-M0+ Technical Reference Manual for details (www.arm.com).
And the only other reference in the whole datasheet is teh timer's base address. Not helpful.
So, fine, I look in the M0+ Reference Manual.
SYST_CSR SysTick Control and Status Register in the ARMv6-M Architecture Reference Manual
OK. Fine. I look in the ARMv6-M Reference Manual:
The timer is clocked by a reference clock. Whether the reference clock is the processor clock or an external clock source is IMPLEMENTATION DEFINED. If an implementation uses an external clock, it must document the relationship between the processor clock and the external reference.
Capitalization not mine, but helpful, unlike the paragraph itself, since the datasheet of the SAMD21 was mum on the subject. And, unlike some other manufacturers, Atmel included all the relevant info in the same datasheet. Meaning, if it's not there, then it doesn't exist. Damn it.
But, as luck would have it, I've seen the SysTick timer used by ASF. There was a delay function that could be configured to use the SysTick timer as the backend. And so I look through the code for that:
void delay_init(void) { cycles_per_ms = system_gclk_gen_get_hz(0); cycles_per_ms /= 1000; cycles_per_us = cycles_per_ms / 1000; SysTick->CTRL = SysTick_CTRL_CLKSOURCE_Msk | SysTick_CTRL_ENABLE_Msk; }
What does GCLK0 ... of course. Silly me. That one's hard-wired to be the CPU clock.
So the SysTick timer on a SAMD21 apparently runs from the CPU clock. In my case, at 48MHz. OK. I can use that.
As an aside, the SysTick timer is apparently identical across all ARMv6-M, if present at all. So it's available in the same way across all Cortex-M MCUs. Groovy.
Another side: I hate everything.

Status: Confirmed my status as a Tech Wizard once again today.
We've got this lecture hall type of room (which is now used for larger presentations and viewing of movies) which is equipped with a projector, a PC, a BluRay player and a 5.1 sound system. The PC, BluRay and the sound system's connectors are all residing right next to the screen, whereas the projector is mounted to the ceiling about ten meters back.
Now, the projector was getting a bit long in the tooth. It also complained about the light fixture needing a replacement with said replacement being AWOL on the usual suspect of shops. But good thing we had a spare projector (a bit more powerful than the old one) mounted to the ceiling of our assembly hall - the reasoning for the location of that thing never really came into existance (another story).
So we simply moved the spare to the lecture hall. Connected everything the way it had been (PC ran over DVI-D, BluRay over HDMI) aaaaand... nothing. The PC clearly recognized the 2nd screen but the projector simply said "No Source".
Well, turns out that the old projector seems to have been a lot more tolerant of signal timing and SNR because I cannot imagine how 20 meters of HDMI would have worked otherwise (without an amplifier, mind!)
It seemed that we were simply SOL.
But then I noticed the previously unused VGA connectors (which were not immediately visible), fetched the proper cables and now we at least have a picture from the PC again.
I got a lot of praise for finding this solution.
My reaction was more on the level of: "But I only plugged in a cable...?"
-
@Rhywden I'm more surprised that VGA worked where HDMI didn't, assuming they both span the same length.

@hungrier
VGA is generally more distance tolerant than HDMI, as it requires significantly less bandwidth, and thus doesn't suffer from as much noise interference over the same distance.

-
@Rhywden Yep. For VGA only both sync signals need to be good enough to recognize TTL high (>=2.4V) (so that it doesn't go out of range). Bad color signal just gives you shitty picture. Bad sync gives you distorted image and, to a point, can be corrected if it's bad consistently. That's what the TV test pattern was for.
HDMI? Bad eye diagram due to signal ringing? Outcome:
Train go boom.No picture for you.

It's so chromatic, I don't think it matters much. No matter what signature you pick, you're going to have accidentals everywhere. I think (almost?) every D is flatted, and all but one G, so 5 flats is probably a reasonable choice, but you'll still have a lot of accidentals.
One other thing I noticed. Contrabass is usually written an octave above concert pitch. If you're not doing that, you're ok, but if you're expecting the contrabass to transpose down an octave, you've got a problem with the low B-flat. It's a whole step below its range, even with the extension that some basses have.

TIL. No, Cakewalk shows it in the pitch it plays it.

I used to use Cakewalk Express a long time ago, but I switched to MuseScore because for some reason I never figured out, CE stopped making sound on my PC. I don't remember for certain, but I think it worked with the common instrument transpositions (down a step for B-flat trumpets and clarinets, down a fifth for French Horns, down an octave for contrabass, up an octave for piccolo, etc.), but maybe it was a configuration option. MuseScore has a toolbar button to switch back and forth, but I don't use it because it doesn't always spell the pitches correctly; A-flats may turn into G-sharps and so on. I work in standard transposing notation, and I usually don't B*****m up the notes figuring out chords. It's a lot more mental effort, though, and I'd gladly work at concert pitch if I were confident it would spell pitches the way I want when switching.

Not far off. I always thought the term accidental was strange: it refers to a note outside the scale (so marked as eg sharp, flat, natural, double sharp/flat...) But they are quite deliberate, not accidental at all!

@Zenith Took long enough but I found a site that wasn't demanding I sign up with a credit card they promise not to charge.
It's very clearly a product of the same people behind Discovery. The two of them fit together much like TNG to Enterprise did. Same sort of angles, pacing, effects, etc. I don't know how much of a shelf life the series is going to have. It seems like people will tune in for the latest episode, and maybe binge watch once the season is over, but that's it.

Status: I find myself becoming more and more noise-sensitive (or maybe just less able to handle noise) as I get older. And then to distract myself/keep from just walking out I turn to my phone or to drawing/writing other stuff. Probably not the best thing to do, but yelling "would you all just shut up, I'm trying to listen here!" is even less socially acceptable.
Of course, this means that I get very little out of noisy meetings. Even a little cross-talk (let alone children screaming) completely disrupts my ability to focus on what the speaker is saying.

Status: Trying to decide if I should spend the additional ~$100 for a tablet with LTE instead of just wi-fi. This is basically the last tablet I plan to buy for business use. All I would use it for is to run credit cards and surf the net during lulls. I could just tether it to a phone for connectivity if I had to but it'd be nice to carry just one device.
Also wondering if 16GB (plus SD card) is even feasible with Android 7+ (base model has 7 but updates to 8 and 9 are available). My phone from 5 years ago has Android 5 on 16GB and it's getting pretty cramped. Very few apps on it support being installed or moved to the SD card. Has that changed with newer versions of Android or is support handled on an app-by-app basis?
-
@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

Each App declares if it would like to be able to run off external storage. If you have a custom ROM (or root) you can of course force it (with all the potential caveats that implies).
