Wait, what are we talking about?

I've submitted feedback to Microsoft, instead of just complaining here.
I would rate those two things has having about equal chance of producing a desirable outcome.

@El_Heffe At least complaining here gets you internet pointzzz.

Not exactly true. @levicki has a positive reputation. It's low, lower than Swampy's for a similar number of posts, but it is positive. At least he's no @Fox; now there's somebody who knew how to lose internet pointzzz fast.

He’s also just posting rants and sometimes doesn’t know when to stop before the rants become unreasonable.
Unlike some other letter avatar people who insistorgan-harvestinginterning millions of Chinese minority population is reasonable politics and anybody not believing their propaganda is an obvious moron.I may or may not have mixed up the minority that was being discussed then, but it doesn’t really matter.

@topspin the former.

I was about to head to bed, so I ran
shutdown /s /t 0
as I usually do every night to turn off my computer. While it was on the modal shutting down screen, I decided to get up from my computer. Being tired, I hit +L to lock my computer as I usually do when I am about to get up from my chair. And... it actually brought up the lockscreen... in the middle of shutting down. I waited in absolute shock. It didn't shutdown. So, I logged in - typed in my password, pressed enter, and the lockscreen disappeared to reveal the lockscreen. Wait, what? Type in my password again, hit enter again, I'm back on the desktop and everything is closed out. Huh. Well, that's a fun thing that happened I guess.
-
@LB_ Next time do
shutdown -h -t0
too. Maybe it'll hibernate your computer with two lock screens.
-
@LB_ said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
While it was on the modal shutting down screen,
That screen can revert back to your user session without requiring authentication for a number of reasons, usually related to applications not shutting down fast enough. So you can't really leave it alone in that state if you're in an environment where you'd use +L.
Of course linux isn't much better be it in a completely different way - linux lock screens are just yet another application.

I'm genuinely confused... what are you people taking screenshots for that you don't want them to go to the clipboard?
I worked remotely via RDP and it's not unusual to want to take a screenshot while not wanting it to interfere with an ongoing copy+paste file transfer.
Another use case: this application I'm working on doesn't allow me to have two windows open to contrast data between two places, so I've taken a screenshot which I'm neither saving nor copying to the clipboard — leave my SQL query alone! — as a form of quick note-taking.
-
I don't know if this is an old version or a new version or what, but Snip & Sketch on my work computer has an option for window snip.

At least, when you type
poweroff
, the lock screen can't prevent the shutdown from happening

how many 0-day exploits that equals to.
Meh, just follow the advice of randos on the Internet!
Besides, if you're not using IE, there's no exploit for it, right?

Halo: Master Chief Collection is out. Well, sorta. Halo: Reach which is part of the MCC is out.
The Xbox app allowed an option to install it before it was released, although it actually just downloaded a 10MB file which allowed you to Play a message box which told you the game wasn't out yet.
It came out today and the Xbox app showed an update available (which was the actual 20+GB game). Except clicking the button to start the update did nothing. I tried to uninstall the game which wasn't really installed anyway and it all went wrong.The full story is boring but the resulting situation is one where out of the Xbox app, Windows itself and the Microsoft Store the only competent software was the Microsoft Store which showed the game as needing an update but then magically fixed everything and downloaded it.
Unlike Windows 10 the Xbox app does at least admit to being a beta.

Status: Upgrading the Engine, which natch requires updates to plugins.
Search for the Epic Games Launcher (which, coincidentally, is where to get the latest UE4 Marketplace Plugin downloads).
Can't find.
Found this:
Dafuq is that?
- Click = nothing.
- Context Menu -> App Settings = Apps and features control panel (useless).
- Context Menu -> Rate and Review = Microsoft Store at the home page
- Context Menu -> Share = Useful.
- Context Menu -> Uninstall = Nothing.
Decide to leave feedback because that's the only actionable thing available to me in regards to this mystery App.
There is no "Start Menu" Category, despite plenty of problems known to happen to it.
Windows is great. I love Windows. Windows should have my children.

@Tsaukpaetra Maybe Epic just ed their so bad Bill Gates couldn't even figure it out with Cortana's help

There's a Start Menu subcategory, not a Start Menu category.

No, to download Marketplace shit you need the launcher. I usually don't have it installed (for whatever reason, installing it yesterday placed it in D:\UE412, apparently it remembered?). Downloading the UE4 engine and compiling from source does not have this requirement.
As soon as I figure out how to flatten Substance painter's textures into normal image assets it's going in the trash and I won't need the Epic Games Launcher at all ever.

support TLS 1.3?
I thought that was still under development?
*scrobbles the Internet* Huh, it was "finalized" early 2018.
A year and a half is totally enough time to produce a reliable and performant universally transparently available ABI for programs to automatically use without modification.

Not sure whether it applies to Windows 10 as well, but beware of this update. After installing it and rebooting, my PC kept freezing on the "configuring updates" screen. I had to launch Safe Mode twice and use System Restore to fix this.
-
@Zerosquare Thanks for the heads-up. I've skipped it this morning because , as well as:
Starting on January 15, 2020, a full-screen notification will appear that describes the risk of continuing to use Windows 7 Service Pack 1 after it reaches end of support on January 14, 2020. The notification will remain on the screen until you interact with it.
Fortunately they say this notification will "only" appear for Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate editions of Win7SP1...

Sounds like you're a little salty about those jokes. Don't worry, with some effort you can scale above your anger and everything will be shiny. It should all go swimmingly after that.
