Actually, why not do the same to NoScript users too? Kinkshame them for not allowing the tracking scripts to be run? Either you have to eat shit, or a thousand snipers will pinpoint your location to shoot hot pieces of turd bullets into your mouth and you have to accept defeat. Sounds like a good plan.

Oh, in that case just use 17 significant figures and don't bother trimming. If you can handle the
12.3e45format too, use%.17gto generate it (if you're familiar with C-style format strings) as that does the right thing in enough cases that it isn't worth worrying about it. There are cases where shortest form generation is nice, but automatically-written code is not one where it's worth worrying about.

@levicki Ah, but the dialog is intentionally shown when the condition is true. The point is that you are logged in, so you appear not to be away after all and therefore it thinks the away notification might be incorrect and you might want to turn it off. It is so obvious to me that I mentally swapped the condition as it would be an error to show the notification outside the specified range.

Probably for the same reason telcos give you a bonus for using 4G: at least if you're running via a hub, a keystroke on USB 1.0 speed will hog the wire for longer, taking more bandwidth away from other devices.

Can anyone tell me WTF is this supposed to do?!
It is labeled âmini gender changerâ since obviously it changes a male VGA plug into ... a male plug.
I usually call it the Chinese information extraction device.EDIT: I just realized I took the pictures so you can see the label, but you canât see too well that itâs still male on the other side.

Bending out all those ground pins on extension cords felt like doing reinterpret_cast on non-trivial class type. But I'm glad the quality of those pins is as bad as their placement (doing the same in Europe would be both impossible and totally unnecessary).

@GÄ ska why would you bend the pins when you could just get a 3 to 2 prong adapter? Just as unsafe (unless you connect GND) but at least you're not damaging an extension cord too

@sloosecannon In Europe the logic is the other way around (a non-grounded device, other than the flat euro plug, won't fit into a grounded socket. Converters are, of course, not allowed under the code but easily made yourself. Usually it's an old extension lead, since devices are near universally either grounded or on euro plugs.

So instead of not screwing it into the plug you screw it into a useless adapter? I donât see the advantage of that.

As for the claims, I donât see what the patent is awarded for. It basically just says âa cubeâ with two connecting sides as an adapter. Duh. Whereâs the non-obvious part about that?

Well you can buy a one for $179 from former Comodo now Sectigo, but... I'd rather not risk it and I will probably get mine from Entrust.
That's where I got mine. Didn't realize they changed names... (and that new name does show up as the countersigner in one of my signed files)

Ah, the joys of patents.
Suppose you invent a widget that frobnicates better in some non-obvious way. It really is an improvement over existing widgets. You patent it. (The world beats a path to your door (trampling your petunias) and you become fabulously wealthy. But that's beside the point.)
You take your improved widget to a patent attorney, and explain to
him/herit how it's an improvement over existing widgets. The attorney goes and does some research on existing widget patents and whether your invention is similar to any existing patents. Once convinced (by research or by the fees to be received) that it's worth trying to patent, theattorneyslime mold will write up a description of the invention and how it works, and probably hire a technical artist to draw lots of confusing diagrams. There will be a bunch of back-and-forth (all while billing a few hundred dollars an hour) asking you whether the description is accurate.The description will include a bunch of "claims" of what you invented. If you improved the frobnication by, instead of jiggering the whatsit like widgets have always done, zotting the thingamajig, the list of claims will end with a claim of zotting the thingamajig in order to frobnicate a widget. It will also include a claim of zotting a thingamajig, whether or not the thingamajig is part of a widget; any zotting of thingamajigs will be covered by your patent, regardless of context. Further it will claim that making a widget using a thingamajig is your idea. The process of zotting will be claimed as your invention; likewise thingamajigs in general. It will probably claim that frobnication is your idea, and probably even the concept of widgets. If there is anything wheel-like about your widget, or it involves fire in any way, the patent may try to claim the invention of the wheel or fire.
The patent will start with claims that are absurdly broad, obvious, well within the state of the art, and clearly false, then step-by-step narrow the claims down to what you actually invented, in general and in detail. The idea is to cover not only the very specific thing you did and the very specific way you did it, but other applications of the same technique that you might not have specifically thought of.
If the patent is ever challenged, some of the overly broad claims will certainly be invalidated, but (assuming the specific invention is not obvious and hasn't previously been invented) some of the claims that are broader than your specific idea may stand, and you can then license your patent to somebody who wants to (do something similar to frobnicating) to (something similar to a widget) by zotting a thingamajig.

Chrome (which is responding faster than a dead snail today) loaded the page just fine, and I was able to successfully apply for unemployment insurance. Which is a whole world of of its own â useless "security" questions, job descriptions that don't, etc. (i.e., standard operating procedure for government forms).

The one valid application I can see for this is when you have a connection that will be plugged (inb4
- TIL the technical term is actually "mating cycle") very frequently and you'd rather fuck up your $3 adapter than the cable soldered into your monitor that will be a PITA to replace.
