Status: broke my mouse's electronics trying to change the cable for the third time (god bless those cheap repair parts). So now I'm controlling my computer with Mouse Keys. Trust me, it's not a good user experience.
Picked a cheap new mouse on Amazon. Before buying, I wanted to reactivate my Prime subscription that I had cancelled because reasons. But it won't let me. It says "processing payment method, thank you for your patience". Apparently it can take over 24 hours before I'm deemed acceptable again. And I can't even cancel the process now!

@Luhmann the fun thing is that falling doesn’t hurt on sand.

The Omer plan failed.

@TimeBandit You realize some people around here would consider that a cold spell. It's only 26 here, but the humidity is higher than usual (although at 53%, it's still what a lot of you would consider dry).

Very dry. Normal humidity here is the range 70%–90%. Being surrounded by ocean does that. The only exception is when we get a northerly airstream; those tend to be dry because the air became saturated when it was much colder. I like the weather when it is like that, even though it's often comparatively cool, as it tends to be mostly sunny (with occasional snow showers in the winter).

Status: Tomorrow I go back to work for a training "institute" for teachers of AP Physics that lasts until Thursday, 8AM to 4PM. The hardest part will be suppressing my reflex to call bull- on all the buzzwords, unsupported statements of edu-dogma, and just bad advice that are sure to fill my days. Doesn't help that the instructor has (based on her bio blurb) fully drank the kool-aid about all the latest-and-greatest "advances" in educational theory.
Honestly, I wish the AP program and the entire College Board would get dumped into a deep, dark corner of the ocean. Wait. I take that back. That would be horrible for the local wildlife. Shot into the sun? Dumped into a black hole? Pure money-seeking, credentialist, .
Oh, and all education "research" can go jump in that same cosmological anomaly as well. None of it even reaches the level of seriousness of "vaccines cause autism!" research, let alone social science research (which is still a very low bar to clear, I must assure you).
Summary Status: Not looking forward to this week.

So, apparently, SQL Server pays close attention to the disk's NTFS Allocation Unit size. In modern drives, this is apparently 4K. The template database expects 512.
On a hunch, I enabled Trace Flag 1800:
And lo, it started!
What the bloody fuck.
Anyways, let's see if WSUS can finally be installed...

Trying to install Features On Demand so I can config WSUS (since, GUI tools aren't available on Server Core).
Can't, because WSUS is not available because I haven't configured it, and Group Policy had been set to tell everyone to use it already...
Edit: And I can't update Group Policy because I don't have the tools installed to do so! OMG

Why do Canadians have AC? Are you on holiday??
It'll be 38°C on Thursday here. I'll take the afternoon off and go to the pool.

The whole country is on AC

My current rate is apparently 56. Considering I just awoke from a non-con tentacle nightmare, I'm not sure what that means.

A can of Mountain Dew kicked me up into the mid-50's. Still feel very sleepy, but now I have a headache. (I am not nearly fit enough for my resting heart rate to be that low when awake.)

I think I'm still incredibly worn out from spending all day outdoors in the heat on Saturday with not enough sleep, and my body really wants to go into a coma for a day or two. I need a weekend for my weekend.

Status: Day 1 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Annoying and mostly pointless yes, painful no.
Although I was shocked by how much some of my fellow teachers struggled with some of the practice material we did. It was really basic (as befits something for Algebra-based physics in high school). Like really, this should be "do it in your sleep" material at this point.

Sudden realization status: I couldn't find the shirt I wanted to wear this morning, so I wore something else. I just realized why I couldn't find it in the closet where it should have been. Because I had pulled it out and put it on my bed before taking a shower (because I wanted to wear it). So it wasn't in the closet, and I am incapable of finding anything in plain sight. It's a long-standing weakness of mine.
Plus mornings. I don't do mornings.
