Sounds like a character in a bad fanfic.
Seriously: last night we were reading one on a stream where Samus was referred to by the following: Smaus, Samu, Samsu, Seamus, and some I forget. There was also Ridley a.k.a. Rildey, Rildy, and Ridely.

'Hit Me Baby One More Time' has aged surprisingly well.

And effectively neglecting our children.

That doesn't answer the question of whether you enjoy beer.
I don't enjoy beer.
Me too.
I don't like coffee, either.
-
@Karla Let's get really controversial here, ok?
Coffee and Beer taste digusting, and saying it's an aquired taste is essentially just admitting that you have a weak will and let society press you into Stockholming disgusting shit.
And on the topic of drugs, I think this fad of legalizing Marijuana is a terrible mistake. I think it is morally wrong to take any kind of drugs of any kind and that includes any and all kind of alcohol and nicotine. If anything, we shouldn't talk about legalizing new stuff, we should be talking about forbidding all drugs that are still legal, including alcohol. Prohibition was a great idea, but the criminalization of drug use is a bad one. We should enforce total prohibition on all drugs but coffein (since it has no serious side effects, no malicious effect and a "caffein addiction" is literally easier to beat than uncrontrollably chewing you nails), but shouldn't wage a war on drugs over them. All suppliers should face harsh consequences, but addicts and "casual users" should be seen as what they are: sick people seeking an escape and in need of help.
It could take a generation or two of intense community work and information campaigns, but breaking the shackles of alcohol abuse would be one step foreward in freeing humanity. Substances like that should be taken only medically and prescribing medical weed when it isn't strictly necessary should result in the prescriber being banned from all public and all healthcare professions. Medical weed should not be smoked to make it cool, but be supplied in the form of disgustingly bitter pills or something like that.

@RaceProUK No most of those too, but you are right in that english is a terribly inprecise language that was unfortunately chosen for international communication because I know at least two languages where that phrasing wouldn't be a problem because drugs and drugs don't use the same word. And I did go on to say "Only medically and if it gets you high we should stop that or make it disgusting"
-
@Quwertzuiopp said in The official unpopular opinions thread:

Why is it morally wrong to do something that harms only yourself? If taking drugs is morally wrong and should be illegal, why not eating unhealthy food, doing extreme sports or things that could be classed as self mutilation like tattoos/piercings?
I think the harms from drugs would be massively reduced by legalising and regulating all of them. Is that an unpopular opinion?

Given how long it took to get legislators to back down over Mary-Jane, it is an unpopular opinion.

So everything that's morally wrong should be prohibited? How do you think that would work with two groups that have radically different ideas about what is morally wrong? The bad ideas thread is .

I understand what you're saying, and I respect your opinion, but you're wrong. Liking coffee and beer has absolutely nothing to do with Stockholm syndrome, but you simply have to get used to the general bitterness before you can even taste the subtle flavors in there.
If you don't want to teach your taste buds to get used to bitter tastes, that's your decision, but don't judge people who drink those beverages. We actually do enjoy them.

I think Java Applets were a great concept - now the software industry is trying to reimplement them through chaotic growth of the JS ecosystem. If they just fixed the implementation, they would save many years of effort and have a better technology.

"Design patterns" always have such cultish names. Like you read about "we used the reverse facade injection singleton with Jacob-Stein-Daisuke data-class codependency dual pattern" and then it just turns out to mean something like "we put some strings in alphabetical order".
-
@Adynathos The same can be said about Flash and Silverlight.
I have high hopes (not expectations) about WebAssembly.
But there's already Java, .Net, Python, Lua, etc. bytecode formats. I don't know why they don't reuse one of those. Or do they?

Disagree. It's a terrible language with a huge community. Huge community makes up for a lot.
BTW, for this thread only, due to its premise, I'm lifting my "no downvotes" rule. So enjoy my first downvote, @Jarry. Hope it made your life just a tiny bit less enjoyable (that's what downvotes are for, right?)

Ok, my turn.
Javascript is actually a pretty good language.
Its single threaded nature is a big win. Callbacks are an intuitive way to handle concurrency.
EcmaScript consortium is doing a good job. Babel compiler is an innovative way of giving developers a way to participate in pushing the language forward.
Node.js is a great way to write server software. It's better than python for web-related work.

@Jarry said in The official unpopular opinions thread:

I think PHP is "bad" in the sense that it has design flaws when compared with a "real" language. But at the same time, it became successful because it just works. It's super simple for noobs to get into, and build stuff with. You don't have to know about web frameworks and URL routing, you just type your desired output, put a loop here, some global variables there, and presto, a dynamic page. And that's something (most) other languages have simply failed to achieve.
It was never meant to build stuff on the level of Wikipedia and Facebook. It just got a bit out of hand.
