Status: Seems like unv.is may not be coming back. Anyone know of a similar app? You give it a URL (usually an article) and it strips out the ads and nonsense, and shows you the text and maybe the relevant pictures.

The client forgot to tell you they were also running 50 instances of Chrome with 100 tabs each. And video was autoplaying in 25% of those tabs. Oh, and Slack.
If you really want to fill out the holy trifecta of memory consumption, add Eclipse to that.

Status: My Server 2019 licences turned out to just be bits of paper that basically say 'Server 2019 16 core licence', there is no key on any of them.
I'm interested to see how activation works when I install the 4 VMs I'm licenced for.

I remember talking to a rep about CALs. Eventually we concluded that so long as I had a piece of paper that said we purchased them, that as enough for an audit. I wrote "Purchased: 2 Billion CALs @ $0.00: Total: $0.00 Paid in full".
We'll see who was being truthful.
Sounds like a game of chicken is on!

It does not, VM is not activated. Microsoft say as the host was installed with an OEM key I need to speak to the OEM. Yay.

I told them it was a pre-built Dell, so I suppose they guessed. I'm not sure how to check myself.

That turns out to be a different command:
slmgr -xpr
Apparently if I had Datacenter edition it would auto-magically activate guest VMs. For Standard you seem to have to manually feed them keys.

Kind of turns out that the key might be on a sticker. Attached to the top of the server. That I totally failed to spot.
Whoops.

Status: So, I failed one course at uni. Twice. Together with 16 other students, I signed up for a third time this semester. But unlike those other 16 students, I'm not allowed to do this because the dean's office thinks I'm signing up a 5th time and students can only sign up for the same course 4 times. Passive-aggressive email sent, waiting for a reply. Goddamn I hate this uni.

Should be able to. A contractor friend of mine is VAT registered and he upped the spec on his MacBook Pro to get it over 2k because that worked out cheaper for him

@Tsaukpaetra It's Windows-fucking 2019, and Microsoft STILL can't figure out how to properly install their cut-down SQL Server (aka Windows Internal Database) properly so it doesn't shit itself and break completely forever without requiring a system format to fix.
What the hell...

Status: A DLL I maintain leaks a bit of memory when loaded into a certain third-party application. It's slow, but after a few days of runtime the application crashes with an OOM exception, and this is a problem for a certain customer.
Attaching the Visual Studio Performance Profiler to the third-party application in order to do memory profiling on my DLL causes an instant system crash and reboot. And porting the feature that reproduces the leak in this application over to an independent EXE results in an application that leaks no memory.
This is going to be fun.
Turns out this third-party application has a built-in profiler!
FAKE EDIT: Third-party application's memory profiler says there are no memory leaks at all, in fact it shows total memory usage is less than a megabyte. This is at complete odds with what the Windows Task Manager and the application's own Out-Of-Memory popup dialogs state.

Anybody know any free hosting options for @error_bot? It's on Node.
-
@error Not quite free, but maybe put it on a Raspberry Pi and self-host it?
-
Speaking of free/cheap hosting, anyone know a good one? It doesn't need much, just to serve HTML and static files, although it would be nice to have some kind of back end scripting support for the future.
-
@hungrier DigitalOcean's most basic droplet is only $5/month. I host my website on one of those.

@error That comment was to @hungrier. In case you missed it,

Oh, derp.
-
-
@mott555 Seems like even that might be overkill for what I want, but I'll keep it in mind.
-
@hungrier How much traffic are you expecting? Public site, or just a test/personal site of some kind?
-
@mott555 Public site for a local organization. Very low traffic, currently hosted on free personal space from someone's ISP plan, but they're changing ISP soon and the new ISP doesn't have free hosting.
-
@hungrier If the web pages are static, just point archive.com at it before it's shut down, and then hand out an archive.com link.

If it's a static site, github.io will host for free.
