Isn't the second guard breaking the rules in that second sentence?
Anyway...

@dcon said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
Let's assume Guard 1 was speaking the truth.
Then what Guard 2 says cannot be truth, or we would have a paradox; so Guard 1 must be the truth-speaker. What does that make Guard 2? Well, not a truth-speaker as she's just told a lie, but not an every-time-liar either as that would be a paradox. So that just makes her... unreliable.Now let's assume Guard 1 was lying. That just tell us than one or both could be lying at any time. Not very helpful. Could Guard 2 be a truth-speaker then? Well, if she is then Guard 1 would be telling the truth, which would be a paradox. But could she be telling a lie instead? Yes, in which case all bets are off: Guard 2 might be an every-time liar or a part-time liar, and we don't learn anything about Guard 1 either.
To summarize: we don't know if Guard 1 was a truth-speaker, an inveterate liar, or anything in between. In any case, Guard 2 can never be relied on to have any particular kind of behaviour.
Even after the barbarian kills Guard 1, the only thing we learn from this story is that Guard 2 lies at least occasionally, but that does not imply she's an inveterate liar.

@El_Heffe From the full story (linked from your link), I found this not-so-funny bit (about a spectator's story of being the guy who ran onto the field):
“The crown doesn’t want to proceed with your case,” were the first words I remember hearing. “Instead, we would like you to take a deal.” This is where things went sour. They wouldn’t explain the deal unless I accepted it. Vaguely, they said it might entail community service or a charitable donation in addition to other conditions. So, I had no real idea of what I was agreeing to.
That sounds pretty weasely... is that really how deals with prosecution usually go?

@PJH well, that's a rip off.

I found this explanation while reading the Physics StackExchange, in a discussion on how rays of light behave inside the event horizon of a black hole:
I am saying that until a physicist enters a black hole, he/she can't know. Once he/she does enter, he/she is not a physicist any longer.
