Guessing from the file size, I'd say 73,000 1KB files.

Javascript
Hmmm, enhance!
A Nuget package, ok...deeper!
And...
It's full of
starsChrome, Electron, and a large amount of SQL commands. Can't find the JS currently.Edit: Found the JS in
app.asar
. 46MB unpacked, so the large majority of the size is the framework.

I wouldn't have been surprised if it downloaded that every time on startup.
-
@Zerosquare I forsee lots of jokes about Amazon just taking the piss.

When I have my work slack tab focused on my work laptop, the fans go into overdrive. Otherwise they hardly even turn.
Double plus gud stuff! With that kind of shenanigans on a fucking web page, a "native" application is getting nowhere near anything I have control over.
-
@Cursorkeys A web browser, of course.
-
@Carnage it's ok, they're actually the same thing

Among other things, an Xbox controller driver.
-
-
@TimeBandit No, but it's part of Chrome.

-
@TimeBandit Why would any application ship an Xbox controller driver? Doesn’t Windows install that when you plug it in?
-
@topspin That driver is actually an Electron app
-
@hungrier It’s JavaScript all the way down.
-
@topspin The next version of Windows will actually be an Electron app running on an older version of Windows
-
@hungrier As long as someone here provides a user script to get Aero back...
-
@topspin The next version of Windows will actually be an Electron app running on an older version of Windows Server in a cloud

Because Chrome is cross-platform and they want consistent behavior.

Do you think that driver will work on Linux or OSX?

Does it include PS controller drivers, too? How about printers and graphics cards?

Instagram videos. Why don't they have a mute button or any volume control?

Spotted today in one of our home grown special applications that my team has adopted...
sPassword
is the value the user has typed in the login page,Users.Password1
is the password retrieved from the database (where it is stored in plain text) for that user,Users.Password2
is also retrieved from the database and is a 4 digit PIN randomly generated for every user that's not requested anywhere.sPin
is the value that would be entered by the user if they had somewhere to enter it.if ((Uppercase(sPassword)) = "N/A") begin function_return 99999998 end
This is almost certainly a but I didn't want to know what this was about or what was special about returning
99999998
and the guilty party is long gone, so I moved on.If ((Uppercase(sPassword)) = (uppercase(Users.Password1))) begin If ((sPin = "$") or ((Uppercase(sPin)) = (uppercase(Users.Password2)))) begin //uninteresting code handling login end End
This deliberately makes the password case-insensitive. Even better it then makes the numeric PIN number case-insensitive.

I always sTuDlEyCaSe my PIN!
-
@loopback0 it also uses random-case for the keywords. And maybe you could fit in even more parentheses in there, somehow.
Really, you should’ve burned it after
99999998
.
-
@topspin I'm sure you could PR those if you wanted them.
-
@pie_flavor Let’s just say I do not.

.Burnination is not currently an option, alas.

Depending on who I might be able to make the off-site backups go away also.

The what?
I am joking but if something caused us to even need to restore an off-site backup, we'd have far bigger issues than the loss of the application mentioned above.

Ah, a beta instance. Hope it doesn't get toxic....
Starting off nicely so far.
Edit: Wait, it has 5k questions already? All the way back to 2015? How long a beta lasts in SO world?
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in WTF Bites:

The original version of that question wasn't great, but it's good now. The single answer (that I saw) answers the question as currently asked and the real original question.
How long a beta lasts in SO world?
There are formal criteria. I'm guessing that one is just a little short of graduating, but there aren't other sites excessively close so the pressure to shut it down isn't high.

What does any of this mean?
2.75D? Emotional viewing?
-
-
-
@dcon That's only 2.5D; the thing I'm talking about has another additional quarter of a dimension
-
@hungrier Dammit google! (and my reading fail)
-
@hungrier Maybe it's halfway between the 2?

"Debian stable never crashes! Because it's so stable! You get old versions but they work!"
Yeah, my ass.
I tried installing MonoDevelop on a Debian Stable 9. Got version 5.10. Launched, created project, immediately crashes. Relaunch, open created project, crashes again. Google the problem. Official response: "Yeah, 5.10 is ancient, just update and the problem is solved".
Guess Debian's so stable they decided to keep a broken ancient package rather than a working modern one.

WOWCube seems to have buggered up their website with search-and-replace:
I honestly thought 'strongulator' was some marketing wankery for a second.
