April Fools Day is leaking?

Ok, whoever approved this new default font should probably go back to the drawing board

That's just because when you type your password, it shows up in that font
-
I wasn't sure if that was because of a Firefox update (66.0.1 to 66.0.2) or a change here. Yeah, this font sucks.
-
@dcon whoa! Looks like FF. I didn't notice any change with Chrome but I see it on FF (on Linux...pretty sure you guys are on Windows).
-
@boomzilla Ah hell. A simple point release and they have to fuck things up badly.
-
@boomzilla
Chrome 73.0.3683.86 (x64) on Windows here, font changed mid-session, no restart/updates for Chrome.
-
@izzion hmm...hard refresh on chrome (I don't normally browse on FF so that had no cache to worry about) and now I'm seeing it.
@blubar!
-
@boomzilla Eek! Why did I try that!

Wow, Mozilla is always finding new and interesting ways of fucking up their browser.
This is a stupid move... well, unless this font makes it easier for me to see Grumpy Cat.
-
Ah. Looks like we updated from NodeBB 1.11.1 to 1.12.0 (I know this because I remember seeing the nag in the admin page in the last day or so). So...NodeBB, probably.

I'm sure Pale Moon didn't update without my consent and the font is visible here as well. Earlier today the website was down so blaming @ben_lubar it is.

-
So what if it's slightly different now? The font still looks perfectly fine.

@brie YMBNH
Any cheese-moving must be reported and complained about. WTDWTF might not have rules but we've always done it this way.

Quite apart from that, I do like the old font better.

Oh hey. That means...
Yes!
-
Eh...my
less
/CSS
isn't great but I can't figure out what changed to make this happen.
-
edit: the active one is
Segoe UI
.
-
@brie yeah. That appears to have been last updated November 2017.
- font-family: "Roboto", sans-serif; + font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
That's in "public/less/install.less." Maybe we only just "reinstalled" or something?
-
@brie
The font is quite a bit smaller and harder to read. It's basically Eye Strain 402 for me :x
-
@boomzilla Well the only thing I don't like about the font is that it looks so similar to Source Sans Pro, which is the font that the Lumen theme uses.
-

How do you tell the active one? Do you have to know what the font looks like?

The first one of those I seem to have is Arial, which seems correct.
-
@boomzilla No.

Just ask one of your grandkids or nephew/nieces. They know about all this "technology" stuff. You may have to pay a heavy price for their help, though-- they might want to play outside. On your lawn.
-
@brie said in April Fools Day is leaking?:
No.
Yes.
Chrome doesn't seem to have that (apparently you have to scroll all the way down in the computed styles), but it also uses a different font than FF (Nimbus Sans L).
Chrome (Arial):
FF (Nimbus Sans L):

Can't you get the web inspector UI thing in your browser to tell you? Web fonts mean that you can't just use your system fonts to figure it out.
(With my theme pick, I'm apparently currently using Roboto. Whether this is because it's not needed a refresh yet… )

If you know where to look. Apparently there's a special place that I didn't know about.

For me (with Chrome) I looked at the computed style when I had a text node containing actual post content selected. I figured that if anything would tell me WTF is going on, it's that.

Yes, it does, but you have to know to scroll all the way to the bottom of the table. At least I do with the way the dev tools window is normally configured. I was looking at the
font-family
but it doesn't really compute it there...it just shows the computed list of font families as specified in the style sheet and I didn't know I had to look somewhere else until I searched on google.

Same thing. Chrome just doesn't have a separate tab for it.
Are you logged into different sock puppets on the two browsers? The skins can override the default font.

I wasn't logged in under FF. Hmm...nope, it still uses
Nimbus Sans L
when I'm logged in (I use the default theme, duh ).
-
Once again the Slate theme proves its superiority, since I don't have this change.

Bigger, but skinnier and pixelated.
-
I've not noticed any difference on Default but I think it's picking an Apple font:
-
I'm so glad I have a custom style, with the best font ever made

But several of your alts were.

The new font is bad and it should feel bad.
-
It's still Lato for me. But according to the CSS that might just be a darkly thing? Huh. If I'm not logged in it's Segoe UI.
I have had it spontaneously but temporarily switch to Arial occasionally, though it looks like here the actually changed it?
-
owo what dis?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Similar thing happens when making a new topic. I had an issue where the popup wouldn't disappear afterwards and blocked the composer, but I can't reproduce it.
-
@boomzilla said in April Fools Day is leaking?:
I pressed. It opened the image in another tab. I then had to close that tab to get back to this one.
What a waste of time. I won't do it again. Seriously guys, do not press the big red button in the image.
-
@Zecc I pressed it and my screen went a bit lighter around where I pressed.
-
On linux I am getting liberation sans, both for body text and for titles.
In fact, it seems titles and body text are using the same font list now. Since someone mentioned upthread that that list hadn't changed, was there previously a separate font list for titles that got dropped entirely?
-
@izzion Wow, I thought it was just me since I was goofing around with themes. I thought it looked shittier.
