Maybe if you're responsible to approve the next Win10 update
-
@Cursorkeys I can think of a few uses of running a last successful build when you're knees deep in some feature and it'll take some time to get the code into state where it compiles again

Except, if you're knees-deep in broken code and trying to debug said code, the debugger won't be useful at all if you fall into it...
-
@Tsaukpaetra who says I'm trying to debug this code? Maybe someone ask me a question and I want to check out an entirely different thing in the program?
-
asks unclear question about syncing file structures in a context it doesn't make sense
What do you mean?
Yes, I am sending you one mail

I assume the Windows Update build has a third "No, ship with errors" button.

I've pressed yes fairly recently, when I just needed the application running so I could get a SQL trace and didn't want to fix whatever nuget errors were making the compilation fail today

I hate the game tutorials that just highlight buttons, and show you messages like "click here to do X", and you can't do anything else until you complete the whole thing. That's basically just a PowerPoint presentation! I seriously can't learn anything with that. I need a "playground" where I can try doing some stuff myself, so I can get a feel of the interface and what goes where.

I'd say let them do their job? Shelve your changes so you can have a working (and probably actually synced) build? Shadow their own debugging?
You're already context switching anyways.
Besides, if this was such a great and useful feature, why is it that only c++ projects (in my experience) the only time this dialog shows up? Obviously it was so widely used the successor languages and debugging tools kept it, right?

Compared to Hypatia, where you're immediately dumped into the world with no explanation or hint to the controls!

@pie_flavor Me neither.

@pie_flavor Anything about "heat death of the universe is still 'for limited times'"?

@topspin More on the taxation-is-theft side.

Ah, I thought it was something I could agree on, but of course, carry on.
-
@topspin No, I mean how copyright is theft from society - it's necessary, but that doesn't give you free reign to make it obtuse lengths.

But as long as we're not reading the license, we are Ok, no?

Status: Mobile internet has been slow and spotty for the last week or so. Now the DSL landline is slow as fuck, too. And streaming.. TV.. with.. stutter.. is..
mildlyextremly.. irritating.
Coincidence? That's two completely separate devices and different ISPs.Went to the DSL provider's website to file a ticket. They have their own speed test (I already did one before going there), which I checked again just to be sure. That's truly amazing.
It's supposed to be 16 Mbps (yes, I know that's slow to begin with). It is actually 3.75 Mbps, and I've measured worse on external tests. Now, the box at the top says:
The bandwidth measured from your browser is good. The values are inside the tolerance.
What the actual fuck? What's below the tolerance, 56k?!
Guess I'll start paying 20% of the bill and call it within tolerance.

Status: Entering the minmax-maelstrom. See, I realized that since my Toxic Rain slows enemies multiplicatively, we may as well get as many other slows in place as possible, since the webs my Aspect of the Spider puts down seem to combine so well with it, so we have to figure out how to incorporate slowing down time, chilling, freezing, withering, and otherwise slowing. Oh, and maiming is a good idea too. And I think covering things in ash makes them slower?
And that's just the crowd control. And only part of it.
-
@Magus Super Smash Bros Ultimate sounds like so much fun.
-
@topspin Yup, that's how DSL has always worked. They sell "up to X Mbps" but you get whatever percentage of it you get.
-
Status: This doesn't look suspicious, not at all:
Random names, same sizes but different gibberish extensions? Exclusive locks on all of them? Smells like standard malware behaviour!
So let's just see if we can find the culprit:
Seriously MS, why the hell would you think this was acceptable?
-
@Cursorkeys Yes. I do it all the time. I know the last build can run, but was working on something that won't compile. Boss wants to see
the thing

Status: Suddenly I can't breakpoint in an async function or it locks out the application. Woohoo.
In other news,

is seemingly no longer getting the correct string data. Woot.

@pie_flavor: so, Earth-73 has solved the Windows 10 problems, but copyright is still broken. I hope that in Earth-108, this problem will be fixed too.
-
@Zerosquare Oh, we've got three universes in play here?

@pie_flavor: we'd have to do a poll to be sure, but I believe several other posters live in different parallel universes.

@Cursorkeys Would it have been more trustworthy if they had .tmp extensions?
The answer is no.

I played that a few weeks (months?) ago. Kept pandamonium for some time because nobody could take away my extremely fertile
unicornpanda, but for some reason I can't recall, my cunning plan to end it failed. Then someone else managed to acquire enough to win :/

@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:

The answer is no.
It's a good point, but I still think the answer is 'kinda'.
Guilt by association is pretty useful for spotting malware and this specific kind of naming was previously malware-only.

Well, I made the ID more on the abandoned cardboard boxes everywhere. Since that’s kind of Aldi’s staple thing.
