Who the hell uses THREE spaces to indent code?
I've seen code that used a random mix of 3 spaces and 5 spaces for indents. (It was a user-supplied script that became an integration test case…)
-
@anonymous234 I have occasionally worked with tabs displayed as 5 or 3 spaces when working on a tabs-only project, because it makes it more obvious when someone is being stupid and using spaces.

Status: I had forgotten just how awful the one-button apple mice are. Gaaaaah.
Secondary status: Setting up a new mac (school provided) is a pain in the hind end. First I had to search the thing (imac) for the power button. IT had already set up my account (with admin rights because they trust me). Now I have to download and install all the necessary stuff, including Xcode (may the Good Lord preserve me) and a non-ancient version of Microsoft Office, plus an ancient version of Java (since the version of Photoshop they give me requires it).
And all this for a bigger screen. It's still an ancient machine with barely enough grunt to do the job, but it's better than the ancient macbook pro and its tiny screen.
Edit: Oh, and you can only have one thing installing at a time. So XCode (which takes forever to install, let alone download) blocks all other install activity till it's done.
And worst of all, I left my iPad at home today by accident, so I can't even really test what I need to. Bah.

I should have expected that to turn into a cluster. Because it did. Mostly because some people wanted (during the very limited Q&A time) to grandstand about things that are completely out-of-scope (like suing the county inspectors--note: that's a hard no, can't do by law). And people who can't hear and understand simple answers, but want to ask senatorial committee-style "questions."
My take--there are issues, and further investigation is necessary. Since the law firms are doing it entirely on contingency, proceeding is at worst a null. Hopefully. I ended up turning in my proxy and leaving. I doubt they'll actually take a vote tonight, since they had to leave the room by 9pm (and I left at 8:55 and there were still dozens of hands up and people getting contentious).

Back when I first started (1980s), I did. Well, I used tabstops set at 3. No fucking clue why - lost in the mists of age. (Probably whoever taught me)

I "fixed" that by setting the show-whitespace option in Visual Studio. Christ, we have a lot of fucked up spacing... sigh.

Not really - just have a callback that the UI assigns when it's ready that gets called by the loader thread when it's done.

status Chase must think I'm a total idiot... Letter in the mail (with a FexEx Express delivery return envelope)
"Congratulations, you have reduced your loan term by 83 months because you have been making extra payments toward your principal balance." (Damn straight!)
"blahblahblah recast blahblahblah which will reduce your monthly payment by $982.22."
Recast chart: (current / after recast)
Prin+Int: 1578.79 / 596.57
Est interest paid: 4184.98 / 12899.94
Interest rate: 3.875% / 3.875%
Est payoff: 2021-12-1 / 2028-10-1So, they want me to pay an extra $8000+ on a loan so I can have smaller monthly payments when I'm actually paying extra. If I was in tight finances (the idea behind lower payments), I wouldn't be making extra payments now, would I?
Makes me want to send it back with a "are you out of your fucking minds?" scrawled on it. But I'll just shred it. And continue making extra payments. And pay it off much earlier than Dec 2021!

Status: basically almost every vehicle but mine broke down over the last week, which includes the main truck, which busted a coolant line as we were climbing the hill so I'm stuck. Will report as situation develops.
Update: Ditched Dad on the hill, not like my puny truck can do anything anyways. Took back one of the three dogs (the one that can't walk much) and we made it back OK!
House status:
- Pool evaporated to minimum level, luckily it was at minimum and not below, because then the water stops flowing in the pump and risks overheat. Filter definitely was full, so tried to backwash it some. Bad news: backwash popped the collapsing tube from the outlet, which meant it started flooding the garden with saltwater and dirt. Oh well...
- Speaking of, Garden systems were mostly operational. At least, until I turned them on for testing and refreshing. Apparently, doing so burst the branch from the main pipe that feeds that section of the system (unbeknownst to me) and flooding on the side of the house began. This was unintentionally mitigated somewhat by me starting the pool to refill from the main pipe, and wasn't discovered until three hours later due to circumstances below.
- Internally, house was fine, restarting air conditioning units Main and Secondary worked without a hitch. When showering and testing internal water systems I thought it odd that the water pressure was extremely low, but chalked it up to the pool filling reducing it more than usual.
After arriving home, Dad texted me asking for muns for the tow. $700+ because we don't have any friends readily available with a 5th-wheel hitch able to tow a 28-foot trailer fully loaded. Gave credit card.
While I was still en-route to home, Friend was summoned to retrieve the rest of the fam stranded on the hill, they used the van and picked up the kids and the remaining two dogs. No issues.
Towing company said "But, uh, only one person for the tow". Took van back up the hill to retrieve step-mom (and some of the laundry that we could access, might as well do some of the offloading process that we can). Fun.
Come back, kids complained that the shower was acting weird and that the front yard was flooding from the side of the house. Uh oh. Shut off the garden pipes (Thank $deity it wasn't the main line). Now they'll have to use alternative methods until it gets repaired...I still have a broken quad in the back of my truck that requires multiple people to man-handle out, because this one jumped the chain and got it smashed into the rear axle, so tightly we can't even remove the axle like normal. That was fun. I'd blame myself (I was the one riding it at the time), but I only had about 10 seconds forewarning by way of an odd sound before it happened, so I don't feel too guilty.
Overall, the trip was fun and somewhat relaxing. I discovered I'm much much weaker than expected, and being at high altitude did no favors. Walking around often left me out of breath, so no nature-hikes for me!
Now to see what happened at the office, I predict absolutely nothing broke when I was away...
-
@dcon Who knows. You could be paying ahead to clear the decks for another expense and a lower payment would let you get into it now

Yeah.. I'm looking into self-accelerating my own (within reason), because one I've already paid back the amount on interest alone, and the other is a ton of loans kinda-wrapped as one-but-not.
