@stillwater
I recently had a discussion because he didn't understand my refusal to provide my compatibility settings for Edge (there are no such features) after reporting a Office365 issue on Edge and Chrome but not on IE11.
I continued to confuse him by sending console logging from all browser involved showing the JS error that was borking their site.

@lorne-kates Yeah but remember they got rid of RSS for a long time. RSS on YouTube is not on a solid foundation.

If I ever get through my pile of GameCube, PS2, Xbox, PS3, Wii and Xbox360 games, I might pick up a PS4. There's some console exclusives that look neat. Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Dad of War.
PS4s are still expensive as shit. I don't get why the price hasn't gone down by now. $330 for the 500 GB version? Christ, the 500 GB XBox One is $200. The refurb is $300!
If anybody sees a good deal on a PS4, let me know.
-
@blakeyrat I think the regular PS4 (and slim version) went down a bit when the PS4 Pro came out. FWIW I bought one using loyalty reward points from my local drugstore (which happens to have an electronics/video games section), which is probably the best way to get it for a lower price.
-
@hungrier Yeah reading between the lines, it looks like what happened is when Sony introduced the 1 TB version, they stopped making/selling the 500 GB version. Which oddly made the price of the 500 GB version to stay high, because even though in theory it should have gone down, the supply diminished.
Microsoft makes both the 500GB and 1TB versions simultaneously so it has more sane pricing, where the lesser machine costs less money as you'd expect.
EDIT: AFAICT the most affordable one is from Wal-Mart:
Of course, I live in the only State in the US that doesn't have 60,000 Wal-Marts, so.

That's where I got mine. Seemed like a reasonable price. They still seem to be expensive if you're getting them from e.g. Gamestop where they don't do price matching and the refurbs are the same price as a new console elsewhere. Gamestop's not making any effort to prevent its demise, it would seem.

They removed the RSS links from the page but didn't actually disable the feeds. Nobody knew if they were going to remove the feature altogether or not.

There's a bunch of projects in the solution that build into the website's /bin folder as .dlls.
It was like that when I got here.
I think the idea is (was?):
- There's a BASE solution. It has almost all of our business logic and objects and data access in various projects.
- That BASE solution compiles all of it's projects into the usual /obj or /bin or whatever, one .dll per project.
- Those .dlls are dumped into the website /bin folder.
- In the same solution as the website project (yes, oldskool web forms website project), there are a bunch of projects referred to as the CUST (custom) layer
- 99% of these are just
Class CUSTBarf Inherits BaseBarf
with methods that are justPublic Sub DoBarf() MyBase.DoBarf()
- (The same is true of the transformation functions that turn a data record into a business object)
- Since all of these CUST projects are just inheriting the base, their projects refer to the website /bin. (There are some .dlls that are referred to across many projects, like the data access layer, for example). The website also has access to these.
The reason: So when we sell a customer an implementation of the website, they get the compiled website and compiled CUST dlls. They, in theory, can make changes to the .aspx and even access the objects through
<%= MyBarf.DoStuff() %>
But if someone wants to pay us a ton of money to get developer training, we give them the website source code, which includes the CUST layer. They still don't have access to all the underlying business logic & code from the BASE layer... but they can make changes in the CUST layer (overriding or re-implementing functions).
Public Sub Do Barf() MyBase.DoBarf(); NowDoCustomStuf(MyBarf)
And then there's our resale partners who have access to the entire solution, including BASE. They can resell installations (mainly in Europe and Africa) as they see fit-- CUST or Website Only.

@pie_flavor Still looks like TouchWiz. I don't know what I expected.
Edit: Piece of fucking shit. It's actively fucking with my app icons, even on a completely different launcher, because on a Samsung phone every app must have a fucktarded rounded box shape.

Status: We're currently looking at a software suite for intra-school communication which allows us to distribute files and communicate with pupils&teachers without falling afoul of data privacy laws.
In my quest for "let's make this as small of a hassle as possible" I'm interested in a single-sign-on solution. Or at least something where you don't have to juggle yet another account name with yet another password (i.e. syncing with a central authoritative server).
As our new management software will sport an LDAP-server this was an obvious target, of course. The new software isn't installed yet so I whipped up a small read-only LDAP-Server on my own website, including some example users (bogus data, of course!). Entered all the pertinent details into the software suite and got an "Connection established."
And there it sits at the moment. Neither do I have a "Sync NAOW!" button nor a "Sync every day at 5am" dropdown. The "manual" (which basically consists of a screenshot of the partially-filled configuration form and a "If you have any questions call this number!") also doesn't say what values it expects/allows for stuff like the "Role" or "Gender". I mean, English or German?
Great.
