@stillwater Chock full of sugars too. Same problem as the chocolate, basically. The gum is to the point, and I would be using caffeine pills instead if they sold them in the student store.
There's sugar-free Red Bull (and Monster, and Rockstar...). Around crunch time at work I buy cases of that shit because while I could just use caffeine pills (and so could you, I presume it's cheaper since you can pick them up in almost any store), I also just enjoy having the carbonated beverage.

Do you like how it tastes? I like the taste of the normal version but sugar-free version tastes extremely weird IMO. Drank just one can in my entire life.

I usually don't drink Red Bull because it's expensive. But I find that there are some energy drinks that are delicious (Monster Rehab is the standout here) and some that just taste like chemicals (e.g. Rockstar Sugar-Free). Sometimes I want the former and sometimes I actually do want the latter (probably a desire acquired when I drank alcohol, and a replacement for it).

Oh yeah Redbull is expensive. I got rid of the habit cos it was biting into my wallet too. When it comes to taste, I liked Monster better but for some reason it was difficult to get hold of Monster than Redbull where I lived when I was heavy on Energy drinks. Oh yeah I remember this energy drink in the UK called Boost or Charge, I'm not sure I remember but it was 50p ($ 0.67) and there was a bigger version that came in a goddamn plastic Bottle and costed a little more. I drank more of that than the Redbull I've consumed till day for my entire life. That shit was addictive AF.

STATUS:
The "director" of my project is a kid just out of college. He doesn't really know much about management or tech, so he hasn't really been much involved with "his own" project.
Until recently, he would just hang around and play games on his phone. But I guess he had recently been put on notice that his position isn't as safe as he thought. So now, he's jumping at every chance to make it easier for us developers and help in any way he can. He's also extremely polite and apologetic about every little thing he fucks up. It feels super suck-up-y and desperate.
I haven't had much experience with this kind of behavior until now. And I find it gross.
Not that he's a bad kid or anything. It just sucks to see people in his situation and how they cope.
-
During a particularly boring commute, I confirmed I can play all of Valve's "Meet the Spy" video in my head with good accuracy.

@cartman82 This came topical an hour ago, because the kid fucked up wifi for the entire office while trying to setup wifi extenders. My guess is he logged in into a wrong device (it's by the same manufacturer), and enabled wi-fi there. This than masked the real wi-fi network the office uses.
He's denying this like crazy, claiming he's never seen the web panel before, etc.... even though his laptop auto logged into it while we were fixing it.
Sigh.

Sigh.It doesn't help he's one of the main high-fivers in the office. While he was apologizing for asking my help about the wi-fi situation (he still doesn't admit he fucked it up), he made me both shake hands AND do a high-five. Jeesh kid, give it a rest.

caffeine pills
Ugh. Unpleasant memories. It wasn't the caffeine pills that caused the unpleasantness, but I can't think of caffeine pills without thinking of Solid-State Physics lab reports, ~3 hours of sleep in 4 days and 3 nights (IIRC; it was over 30 years ago), and the resulting hallucinations. Not a good combination. (I never did find out what the instructor thought of the reports I wrote while hallucinating. I wound up retaking the class.)
Probably
Just like we did with the pupil today who failed his final exam resoundingly (he's allowed to try again next year if he wants, though). Highlights include:
A compound named "NaOH2+", when asked for nitric acid he provided the formular for hydrogen cyanide instead (we think that he picked that formula by random chance because that acid was never part of the lectures) and finally he went on tangent about buffer solutions but couldn't explain what a buffer actually is.

They taste very nasty. So for that reason alone I'd rather sweetness was missed altogether instead of adding fake sugar.
-
@japonicus the flavour is different, but I've got used to zero sugar versions pretty quickly. I probably prefer sweetener versions of drinks now

5 Hour Energy is not caffeine pills, and the real big stupid dumb there was mixing the two accidentally.

@jaloopa Actually, a number of them, especially aspartame, have been linked to various heart problems.

@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:

Actually, I think you mean "there's been a meta-study of a bunch of studies... most of which were thrown out for being incomplete or biased... which resulted in only 37 studies being analyzed... and even then categorized as being with high risk of bias... and even then, the meta analysis only shows an ASSOCIATION with some heart conditions. Most of those studies were on people who were already obese or had weight issues, so that might be a factor in why the pool of people had a high incident of heart issues. Also, it didn't control for socio-economic status (ie: poor people eating shitty food and working stressful jobs). And since the meta studies themselves have conflicting results for BMI, when it comes to this secondary outcome that wasn't even part of the study, then "
It was an understandable typo on your part.

The American heart association doesn't have an issue with aspartame

In theory the Apple music stuff is DRM free now, right? So you just put iTunes in a VM to grab the tracks and wazam, solution!

Only the tracks you already own via CD rips or whatever. Anything from Apple Music/ ITunes is not DRM free.

@stillwater I dunno if you're talking about Indian artists, but if you have Go+ then you have access to pretty much every artist you'd get on Spotify. And it's the same price as Spotify, and has far more indie artists.

I don't need Indian artists. I mainly have a ton of prog rock i painstakingly collected through a few years mostly from the 80s and 90s that I'm struggling to find on Soundcloud. We don't have Spotify over here :(

Amazon offers it but the usability of their app is beyond horseshit. If I remember correctly spotify is actually pretty decent. If google music included youtube red in europe I would of nabbed it but again I didn't like the interface so two deal breakers there. I went with Amazon because they were cheaper with my prime subscription. Nothing really beats mp3s and poweramp on android though.
*edit sorry missed the bit about spotify.

Status: I was supposed to have a final test for Software Engineering Basics class last Sunday (the last school day this semester), but the teacher got mad at us for sitting too close to each other, left the classroom before handing out test sheets, and never came back. I've seen some very surreal shit in this university, but this is definitely takes the cake.
To make this even worse, I've just received an email that there's a new time set for the exam. Sunday, 17th of June. At 7:30PM. Really, if not for the bullshit he pulled off earlier, I'd think it's some kind of sick joke. Especially that many students are out of town (some live over 100km away and have to take a train to get home, and train schedules are very sparse on Sunday night).
Seriously, if I'll have to take one more subject with him as the teacher, I'm dropping out. Enough is enough.
