Maybe you shouldn't download those. Just a thought...
Also, there's the TYPE column in his view, which will say "Application".

I don't build programs matching that description....

In other words, temporary and intermediates like the object and symbols should not be held alongside the source? Binaries, maybe. But again that would be like saving the rasterized image from a vector just because you opened it to view it.
I feel like it should only shove resultant binaries and supporting material alongside the source when publishing or otherwise compiling for distribution. And even then, you should be asked for the location where it should be saved to (at least once).

@tsaukpaetra there are some unprintable characters that are also disallowed in filenames. They couldn't list them in dialog box for obvious reasons.

Not really. You must have (copy/)pasted a string that had those chars. Windows strips all "bad" chars out and leaves the rest.

Yeah, I figured it was a carriage return or something that was accidentally copied. Because Notepad doesn't handle carriage returns without a line feed properly in my version of Windows.

Obviously not.
Edit: Ok, not obvious, because since it's just a single shot you wouldn't know that pressing Enter just causes that error dialog and then clicking OK on it just cancels the rename operation.

status shaking with rage. Who thought that putting a timed warthog level, with the worst controls known to man, at the end of a game is a good idea? They need to be beaten. Severely.
And with no checkpoints either. Run out of time by 5 seconds? Restart at the beginning. And it's mandatory. Because arbitrary hard is the best hard, an I right?

Why would you wanna watch the second volume if you have not watched the first?!?!?!?! Oh wait, OTOH not watching the first volume was probably the reason you decided to even give the second one a shot. makes sense.

I've put it on twice. The first time I fell asleep within a few minutes, the second time I wasn't paying attention because I had other things to do.

Not finished. Quit in disgust after about 6 tries.
Oh, and there's this nifty little bug with the composer on Chrome (Android), where occasionally when the keyboard opens, the composer scrolls down so the submit/close button and that header (but not the editor buttons) is off the screen. And then disallows scrolling up. So you can't submit the post. Or even use the back button, because the "are you sure you want to leave" popup is off the screen enough to not be a valid tap target. You have to manually navigate to a different page.
This is inconsistent, however.

I did see a site recently which interacted with Android Chrome hugely badly; the text edit control was being enlarged to the point where it was covering the submit button, and wouldn't shrink out of the way even when I tried things like resizing the page and rotating my phone. No idea how I managed to get things to work (but the next option would have been to crack open my bluetooth keyboard and pair that up, which I'm not keen on doing since that's for the tablet).

There weren't checkpoints in my version. Maybe that's changed?

I never finished the second one. I should really get it back out...

The first Halo has no checkpoints during that portion of the last mission. There's one about 30 seconds before the timer starts, but once the timer starts you're stuck. And it's a 6:00 timer. Which would be plenty except that the thing handles like a pig and has a tendency to flip/roll/rotate at the slightest provocation. And the whole two-stick control is stupid beyond belief.
Oh, and it's completely unlike anything else in the whole game, so all the skill you've built up over the game no longer applies. And the previous time you drove a Warthog was several chapters before, so you're out of practice.
-
@benjamin-hall said in The Official Status Thread:

That's loads. You've even got time to stop off and hunt an easter egg.

Except for the aforementioned horrible physics. So if you have it perfect, it's plenty of time. But if it decides to wig out on you and end up rolling even once, you're screwed. Oh, and the last jump that unless you're absolutely perfect, you'll miss and fall to your death.
-
@benjamin-hall I don't remember having a problem with it, but it is absolutely ages since I played it.

From what I can find, either people love the Warthog's handling or they hate it. I'm in the second case. It's so alien to anything I'd expect, and requires arcsecond-perfect aiming from thumb-sticks. And has inertia to the point that it sloshes around like crazy.
-
@benjamin-hall I think I remember it taking a few tries, but it wasn't impossible by any stretch. The "Midnight" level in Halo 4 took a lot more attempts.

It's not impossible, just horribly frustrating. Admittedly, I'm not a challenge-loving gamer. I play for the story (or for the mindless blowing stuff up). Artificial difficulty (like with all those Nintendo-hard games) is a total turn-off for me. But this part doesn't even respond to the difficulty setting except in making the enemies shooting at you pretty meaningless. The driving part is identical.
