and yet they demonstrably don't, see database server being publicly route-able.
They could easily have one and still have the ports open and the server routable.
.... firewall between server and internet..... server with publically route-able IP..... on a cloud provider.....

It's almost as if I said that.

E_DOES_NOT_COMPUTE
Yes it does.
edit: and either way, the point was that the problem isn't just that MongoloidDB is open by default.
-
@accalia said in Internet of shit:
that is the default configuration of mongodb.
And of SQL Server 2000 ... speaking of that ... @loopback0 how fast are you moving towards SP4?

It's not my server. Also I've not heard it apologising, so I assume not in Canada.

Yes it does.
but...........
Doing it Right:
How a Cloud Provider would set things up (unless you go out of your way to set it up differently, and even then it needs to be like AWS or some shit that actually supports tiered hiererchies):
unless you know of a cloud provider that does the first image by default?
because the way it looks to me, they had the publicly routeable database server, that automatically means they're not doing things correctly, which means they're at BEST the second picture, and even more likely don't have a firewall machine at all, relying on the webserver itself to do that, if they even bothered to set it up at all, which i doubt they did given they left the database server hanging with its ass out the window.
but what do i know? i'm just a anthropomorphic vixen carrying an onion that is wearing a belt.
now get off my lawn you darned kids! :wave_cane:
-
@accalia said in Internet of shit:

That was obvious before pictures.
I've seen the error I made in being a little less pedantic about the "publicly routable server".

@TimeBandit At least on NodeBB, there's a greater than zero chance of stuff actually getting fixed.

I think the fact that we've had at least a couple of people attempting to convert NodeBB to a sane relational DB (which is apparently a gargantuan undertaking) says more about us than the fact that we use NodeBB and it uses MongoDB.
Yeah. Fuck that project. Nodbaby's database is a mess and it's database access code is worse.

Showering with your underwear on doesn't count as washing the underwear...

Quite right. Good thing I don't do that either.
Going outside in the rain wearing just underwear is TRWTF
BTDT, would recommend if it's not cold outside. Lots of fun! terrible Dancing was had, maybe a little singing, and some stress was eliminated.

Attach a mechanical device on your limbs that generated energy by movement (and making movement slighty harder, but that's what you get). It seems too simple to be true. I'd like to know if there's any reason why we don't do that? (other than "people don't like exercise")
There's a kickstarter for it. I found it while looking at wind-up battery chargers (inspired by this conversation). I think I prefer the wind-up idea, personally.

Why is a dishwasher running a web server‽‽‽

@bb36e said in Internet of shit:
These voice clips, along with records of 820,000 CloudPets.com accounts associated with the each of the toys, have been left wide open on the internet, with no password protection – allowing gigabytes of sensitive material to potentially fall into the hands of criminals. And it's all due to a poorly secured NoSQL database holding 10GB of internal information.
CloudPets' internet-facing MongoDB installation, on port 2701 at 45.79.147.159, required no authentication to access, and was repeatedly extorted by miscreants, evidence shows. The database contains links to .WAV files of voice messages hosted in the Amazon cloud, again accessible with no authentication
seriously??????????
Ha! Ours is on port 27015 of a virtual network that can't be accessed from the internet! And it contains a bunch of NERDS!

Use your HEAD, man (or woman, persyn, or whatever). By PUTing it in the dishwasher, of course.
