Just came back from MS Texh Summit in Warsaw. Met some great people there, decided to go back to Twitter. I have an account which I haven't used in like 5 years, so I log in back and I see propositions of hashtags that could interest me. The third one: #MSTechSummit.
I mean, HOW?! WTF?!

Somehow you're keeping cookies around, let your adblock down for a sec or had your browser profiled by some adholes during the conference. So they recognized you as someone who previously used the same IP as a whole bunch of others whose most salient online activities were looking at bestiality and tweeting about #MSTechSummit so they thought that you didn't do it was probably a mistake and you need reminding. I got a YouTube ad for a car that had some kind of corruption in it so the video player would just disappear after about 7 seconds of the unskippable 30 second ad. I tried to get rid of the ad by saying "I don't like cars" in every possible way I could think of, but apparently they didn't think of adding a category for "cars", so my choices were limited to "automotives (by brand)" which did nothing and a few other choices that wouldn't match the commercial in any sensible way (and yes, I tried them).

@tsaukpaetra I was confused because I couldn't figure out what word you meant from the word that appeared. If the autocorrection was close enought that it was obvious what word you had intended, I probably would have just ignored it. Unless it was funny.

To clarify: I don't think that Twitter is spying on me WHAAARGARBL, THEY WATCH YOUR EVERY MOVE!
(That being said, recently Google was caught sending unauthorized location data to their servers.)
What got me started was, that usually you can understand where they got the information. If it's google and you have android: location services. Some sites you visited. If it's Facebook, they might be scanning messages.
But Twitter in an account I haven't logged in for a few years? Thought maybe there was some kind of story there, that I didn't see headlines of.

I do now, but I did not previously. As I said, I haven't used the account for 5 years and back then I didn't follow any software development-related stuff.
But this was my first thought, too.
I probably read a lot of twitter posts related to soft development, but it was while logged out.

Anyone proposed them cross-referencing tracking information of Twitter buttons with your IP when you signed in?
I take it you've been viewing sites with information about the MS Tech event and those might have had such buttons?

They wouldn't even need to do anything sneaky like that. Your login cookie gets sent with the request for the buttons because it's on the same domain.

Nah, it's definitely not. The building is actually called Expo XXI. The word "theater" in this tweet comes from the fact that the guy was presenting in a space that was called "MVP Theater". There were no dreams there, AFAIR this guy demoed azure secrets.
The person that tweeted this just noticed the light play, ran the photo through some filters and deemed it… nostalgic.
And let's face it, the name "The Theater of Dreams" for a place sucks ass. It's extremely tacky and unimaginative. I'm thankful it's not a real place!
