The question isn't "can they do it?" the question is "why would they?"
How else are they supposed to amass a vast hoard of bitcoin?

Can a dragon get rich off the stock market?
Why would they need to? They hoard gold and gemstones instead: it's a much safer investment.
Tangible forms of wealth have taken a backseat. Most wealth now is intangible, so if they really want to keep up, they're going to have to adapt.

@anotherusername
They just need to fire up an InitialCoinScale Offering, and then they'll be making the real virtual buxxx.

We don't need to go with modern fantasy fiction for dragons transforming into humans
The modern setting was so they could learn to code.

@blakeyrat It's a few of posts down from https://what.thedailywtf.com/post/1221272 but I'm not going to scroll to where it is again at work
It's the comic that starts with people waking up a dragon saying they have a lot of gold.
-
@jazzyjosh Oh jeez, how did I skip that one when I reported the other one. Reported now.

I know everything about being a naked mole rat I need to know.
Bad example. Better example:
-
Is this a dragon?
(Subject of enquiry pictured centre. Fighter jet shown for scale. Fighter jet is not a dragon.)
-
@carrievs I can't help assuming the flying reptile is significantly closer than the fighter jet. Otherwise, it's one big-ass flying critter.
-
@boomzilla that rat is clearly not naked. It's wearing a suit of armor.

It's an azhdarchid pterosaur. In other words: one big-ass flying critter*.
I've known for a long time there were some huge pterosaurs but never really got it in perspective until I watched David Attenborough's Flying Monsters documentary. The giant azhdarchids - most famously Quetzalcoatlus - have the wingspan and length - albeit much less than the weight - of some light aircraft.
The striking moment from the documentary, was the sight of a fossil bone: it looked like a limb bone of a large quardruped - an elephant or something. Maybe a little shorter but probably bulkier. It was a wrist bone from Quetzalcoatlus. That was months ago and I haven't yet stopped being amazed.
The picture above is actually the related Hatzegopteryx, of similar size. I couldn't find a life restoration of Quetzalcoatlus with a plane. But here are a couple of useful images of it, for scale:
*there are actually medium and small sized azhdarchids, but the family is best known for containing the largest known pterosaurs.
-
@carrievs Wow.
-
@boomzilla That's not a dragon, that's a megaman boss!
-
@khudzlin Incidentally, don't think you'd be safe if it couldn't get airborne. This thing could (it is believed) gallop and fly.
-
@carrievs That thought didn't even consider crossing my mind. I don't want to be near a giraffe-sized reptile with that big a beak.

I'd be interested to know at which point the monsters became specifically "dragons", though.
Like this verse in the Bible.
"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?
It doesn't mean literally a snake. Hebrew fishermen referred to unwanted fish as snakes. So it could be referring to a hard-head catfish, for example.
Maybe, in the same vein, dragon was generic for monster back then.

TIL. Does the next* verse literally mean a scorpion?
*or previous, I forget the order.

Also a generic term, for a deadly or destructive creature or plant.
Land scorpion is what we'd refer to as scorpion. Sea scorpion is a poisonous fish or water animal. Air scorpion could refer to locusts which destroyed crops.
It could be referring to a way to assassinate someone. Putting a scorpion into an empty eggshell.
Like in Genesis. We only refer to Satan as a snake, because of the curse of making it crawl on its belly, we assume as in a snake without legs. Before that it could have been any kind of creature, and crawling on its belly doesn't require no legs, but simply short legs would do.

another anime about underage girls with huge knockers (but it's not technically pedophilia because you see that're really 900 year old witches in 11-year-old bodies)
I mean, there are younger characters, but most of the characters are in their 20s. The main character is a female professional Python dev.
In real life I have met women who are 20-21 years old but could easily pass for 14-15.
blakeyrat seems to have a problem with one or more of these:

That was kind of my question. I'm lazy and can't be bothered to search myself, but essentially, what is the etymology of the word "dragon"? Where does it come from, did it have another more generic (or more specific!) meaning initially and how did it move from there to the, say, late-medieval meaning (from then onwards, it's pretty well established that "dragon" means "a somewhat snake-like monster etc.").

No, itβs a jet trainer pretending to be a ground-attack aircraft. But its name does include the word βdragon.β

Hmm...maybe. But serpents and dragons and the like have a long association with chaos, especially that which came before the Creation, however it goes in the myth.
For example:

Dammit, I searched for Quetzalcoatlus and fighter jet, and the only result that looked like what I wanted (life restoration in flight next to the plane) turns out to be neither of those things. Google, I am disappointed in you.
