@timebandit maybe your shitty north American beer

@jaloopa I avoid that stuff and only drink Budweiser.
Please don't Jeff this to the Garage!

Yeah, but I don't get what's immoral about it. Who does it hurt to drink a mouthful of beer?
Me. Now of course doing so by accident isn't sinful (since that requires volition), but intentionally putting myself in situations where such "accidents" are likely is too close to the line for me. Others may choose otherwise (and I don't support legislating or otherwise enforcing my stance on others), this is just my personal stance.
-
@raceprouk that's the observed meta rule. The specific prohibitions are coffee, tea (from the tea plant, so herbal tea is fine), alcohol, tobacco, and recreational pharmaceuticals (those used for the purpose of altering one's mood/brain state without confirmed medical diagnosis).
Note that church discipline (excommunication, for example) is specifically disallowed for these types of sins.

Ah, gotcha. Different definitions of morality

You should try some of these, maybe you'll change your mind about our beer
I don't like the taste of beer. Specially the crappy commercial ones.
-
@benjamin-hall @boomzilla yeah, it doesn't really cook out as fast as most people would think. It's more the fact that you're adding, what, a couple teaspoons to a whole recipe? The amount of alcohol just isn't really noticeable to begin with. Some of it does cook out, but the amount that doesn't is probably a significant fraction of what you put in.

It's one of the reasons I dislike going to standard "parties". Nothing to eat, nothing to drink, and everyone is sloshed so conversation is boring. Bidn.

@tsaukpaetra you could always bring fruit juice. You can drink it straight, and everyone else can mix it with liquor.

And being around drunk people (not necessarily people who are drinking) is not high on my "must do" list. Not to mention the smell is revolting.

In prison, home-made wine (known as "jump-steady") is often made from bread dough. (I was a CO, not an inmate, FWIW.)

If you ignore the potential for addiction and the natural consequences of drinking, nothing.
-
@chozang when I spent time in the Baltics, there were people making samogon (home brewed beer) from anything fermentable. Does it have carbs? Will it not immediately kill you? Then someone made beer from it.
And then distilled that down to spirt at about 190 proof. One guy I knew said he'd drunk 2L of that in a sitting...
-
@benjamin-hall said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

Then he most likely lied. 2 liters of 95% ethanol in one sitting will kill anyone - even the most hardened of frat boys.
If we assume a person with a body weight of 80 kg, drinking 2 liters of 95% ethanol in one sitting would result in a BAC of 2.56% (yes, percent, not permille). Lethal BAC levels are 0.4% and above.
-
@rhywden yeah. That was based on a self report. I'm guessing it was one or more of a) not as much, b) not as strong, or c) over a long period of time (ie a full day of drinking).
The dude was a serious alcoholic though--he lived his life somewhere slightly sloshed and hadn't been totally sober in 10 years or so. His tolerances were probably higher than most. Not to mention being Russian

Police can sometimes recognize an alcoholic by extremely high BAC. A chronic, long-term alcoholic can be "sober" with a BAC that would kill an ordinary person, up to 1.4%.

Suppose, however, that one were able to administer one's renal output widely and evenly, perhaps by affixing a deluxe showerhead to the relevant anatomy and spinning on a lazy Susan?
Tempted to see if a depiction of that exists. Probability rates at about 37 percent...

This. This is a bad idea.

@benjamin-hall Stilettos are hard enough to walk in without adding feckin' wheels to them. But of course, they'll sell loads of them because it's from a high-brow fashion label.
Then again, looking at some of the stuff in that site's sidebar, I'm wondering just how 'newsy' that site really is...
-
@raceprouk it's the NY post. The daily mail of the US. I don't doubt that there's some truth, as they don't tend to ascribe false things like that to major fashion houses,. Lots of sensationalism, though.

This is quite fun, if a bit shit with the questions I've tried:

But that clone is from Oracle.
