Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?

Or will it take longer for it to be available?
-
The timing of the trademark filing is significant. Microsoft just teased its Project Scorpio dev kit, and the company is planning to unveil its Xbox Project Scorpio console on Sunday at E3. Microsoft is expected to reveal the final naming, price, and design of the new Xbox console at E3.

@RaceProUK But will it be launched that same day?

More importantly, will Nintendo make enough switches that people can start buying them by then?

Sure, roughly 2 years after the fad wears off.
Also: used WiiFit balance board for sale--

Hasn't been a problem over here :)

No.
Release date is November 7th:
And yes, they're really calling it the Xbox One X.

At least they didn't call it "Xbox 10" like some sites said.
-
@RaceProUK They seem to be naming the system in the style of the handles of the best Call of Duty players: XBoneX

Bethesda show was disappointing. Only real gem is Wolfenstein II.
Other than that, VR versions of Fallout 4 and Doom 2016, Switch version of Skyrim, DLC to Dishonored 2, DLC to ES: Legends, sequel to the tepid The Evil Within. Yawn.
Bethesda did a lot of talking early on about how great Morrowind was, still shows ZERO understanding of why anybody actually liked Morrowind and ZERO intent to actually replicate that experience. It makes you want to cry.
But... new Wolfenstein. Wolfenstein: The New Order was, inexplicably, the best-written game of 2014. I'm hoping Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is as well-written.

Was it? The plot was pretty boring and way over the top, especially the Jewish thing. I'd say it's a great game, in every way except for writing.
Also. I heard Divinity: Original Sin is quite good. Haven't played it much, but it's rather text-heavy, so if people say it's good, it must include the writing.
-
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

Yes.
"Sorry about your legs."
"Don't be. I've learned how to fly."
That scene alone was so badass. I dunno how you could say that game didn't have amazing writing. Unless you weren't paying attention at all.
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

The prison camp concrete factory plot? OMG. You thought that was BORING?! Jesus. That was one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen in a video game.

Yeah you're wrong and also crazy.

No, I'm not joking.
-
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:
the Jewish thing
While the language used would certainly indicate they were Jewish, I always considered the attitude that was presented as more pantheistic than theistic. It did seem there was no particular reference to a personal deity espoused by Set. I seem to remember Tekla (the maths obsessed girl in the Fergus timeline) was kinda the same.
I found that to be an interested piece of writing. They clearly made a wide range of characters with differing drives, motivations and beliefs. Was the overall story a bit weak? Yeah, kinda. But damn were the characters good, all over the board (the Max storyline was a proper tearjerker, I was happy to see him in the trailer for the sequel).

No, the other Jewish thing. The one that happens late in game and I cannot name it because it would be kind of big spoiler, and I don't know how to do spoilers on this forum.
-
Also.
@blakeyrat said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

You must have played few video games over the last decade. Have you heard of Spec Ops: The Line? If Wolf blew your mind, this one will implode your whole body.
And I never said "boring". It was a cool level and I've had lots of fun. But I don't remember any dialogues. And the plot was pretty standard. Nazi zombies are so 2008.
-
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

It was a little goofy, but no goofier than the machine at the end of Half-Life 2 that magically erases all your weapons except the gravity gun which it superpowers. And people seem to like Half-Life 2.
By the time you get to that point, you're 100% sold on the rest of the story, the universe, the characters, the gameplay, so they can afford a bit of goofy. Because all of that stuff is so solid.
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

Yeah, I love Spec Ops: The Line, as you've seen me post on this very forum like 20 times. And it did blow my mind, and I do think anybody who's even vaguely a fan of military games should definitely play it right now. And I only 50% jokingly believe anybody who owns Spec Ops: The Line who has the achievement named "Deer Hunter" should be investigated for psychopathy. Because seriously. There is so much wrong with you if you go for that achievement.
One thing Wolfenstein has going for it is the gameplay is actually fun, where Spec Ops: The Line is kind of a slog. (It's not terrible, just bland.)
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

Pretty sure you weren't even paying attention. The story is told in conversations, incidental dialog, texts. The concrete factory slave camp's story you almost have to uncover for yourself. It also requires from historical knowledge from WWII. (Although I think one character expressly spells it out at one point, IIRC.) The way it works into the over-all theme of the game is amazing. Play it again and keep track of all the places you interact with concrete structures in the game. It sounds silly but if you go in to a second playthrough with eyes open it becomes something amazing. The Nazis are the concrete.
Is it Shakespeare? No. But it's at least an order of magnitude better than writing in a Wolfenstein game is ever expected to me, which was part of the appeal. Wolfenstein: The New Order and Elder Scrolls Online give me some hope that when Bethesda get around to making Elder Scrolls VI, they'll remember how important writing is. A lesson they obviously forgot with Skyrim, and it's moronic, plot-hole-filled, railroading crummy writing.

Thank you for a huge ending spoiler. I just bought Orange Box this March, and just finished highway chase part before I had to fly my whole life across ocean, and didn't have time to continue my game since. You asshole.

I had fun with both. Granted, Spec Ops is more about just getting through and killing everyone, and Wolfenstein is more about collecting achievements necessary to upgrade your character, so you might say it's more varied. But I thought we're talking about writing?
@blakeyrat said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

I did. It kept my interest right from the start, especially since the first chapter takes place in my home country (a rare thing for non-Americans). It's nice they cared enough to make supporting cast speak Polish. I only wish Germans spoke German more.
Anyway. Plot lacked any unexpected twists. There's a giant missed opportunity with critical choice early on that has no bearing on the rest of game. Levels were even more linear than in the 1992 original. The attention to detail might be lost on me, because having been born and raised in Poland, every reference to actual WW2 events is grade school knowledge here. To me, it looks like they went for shock and awe, without any deeper meaning. Like James Bond movies - great, but not because of writing.

I've yet to finish it one time. I've got bored right before the final boss.

Is the time pod making a re-occurance?
Also, wait. Since 2004 you've had no time to play Half-Life 2, but you have played Wolfenstein: The New Order and also Spec Ops: The Line? Whahuh?
You're a trolly bastard.
@Gąska said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:

Right; it can't be good writing unless it has moronic M. Night Shamalayan twists in it.

When will a video game match the amazing writing of Moonraker? When will our industry grow up out of this ghetto, and start getting real talent like Joe Don Baker in The Living Daylights!? Woe is us!

I also saw Spectre but not Goldfinger. And finished Fallout 4 before starting New Vegas. Dark Souls was my first Japanese RPG except for Pokemon (finished Crystal first, then Yellow). Is there a law against playing new games before finishing old ones?
@blakeyrat said in Will Xbox Scorpio be released sunday at the e3?:
Right; it can't be good writing unless it has moronic M. Night Shamalayan twists in it.
When you can predict all events right from the beginning, it's not interesting. And for me, interesting is required for good writing. The whole game is built around the Rule of Cool with no regards to plausibility. Sci-Fi dystopia in the 60s? Seriously?
Maybe we just look for different things in our stories, and rate them accordingly.

Doom VR sounds like the worst idea ever, simply because it's actually a good Doom game, and therefore goes way too fast for VR.
Meanwhile adding a third X to the console's name may have been a bad idea. Even Guilty Gear wouldn't do that.

Catching up on the XBox E3 thing.
Normally, I'm one for gameplay over graphics, but some of the stuff on Scorpio… Holy shit, the graphics are amazing :D

Little to no generated content. A then-novel story of a hero who might or might not have been predestined to do great things. Tons of sidequests, particular storylines interacting with each other. Moar skillz. Lots and lots of customization, and not just cosmetic - custom spells was awesome feature, but of course easily exploitable - which people loved to do. There were tons of exploits, which is not necessarily bad in a single-player game. Also, from what I heard, the graphics were revolutionary at the time - unlike Skyrim, which looked pretty standard.
-
@Gąska I played through Morrowind a while back. Sadly, it doesn't hold up well mechanically. The combat is quite shit, the beast races gets shafted in the gear department and lose out on wearable gear (and by extension, stats), and the scaling of enemies isn't the best. You can easily get owned by enemies around the starting town due to weapon skills being too low to hit them reliably. Story-wise still good, though!
-
@Atazhaia same experience here. CRPG genre went miles ahead in the last 15 years when it comes to combat mechanics. The problem is not in better combat, but in dumbing down everything else.

I'm torn. I have a PS4 (regular) and an Xbox One. I don't know if/when I'll get a Scorpio, although that will probably happen before I get a PS4 Pro (because I want a UHD player).
If I start buying upcoming games on Xbox, I'll be stuck with the lower-quality version until I get a Scorpio. But if I stay on PS4 for now, I'll have the lower-quality version for the long run.
Anybody have thoughts on which platform I should be buying games on for now?

@wharrgarbl I tried that. I even built a PC and hooked it up to my TV. But it kept needing me to break out the mouse and keyboard to deal with installs or driver updates or fixing games, which was annoying.
Eventually, once a Windows update hosed it to the point where it wouldn't boot and it needed an OS reinstall, I gave up on it as a gaming machine and made it my desktop.
