I used to write VB, many years ago, and I still have a copy of VB5 somewhere, so it's not like I couldn't try to follow what the code does.
The problem is that there is a part of me that wants to port this to PHP just to see what would happen...
I am going to get a version of VB6 and do a build. Years ago SSDS was running on VB6.
So Swampies can download the source code, VB6 and be jammin like Ole Swampie..
What fun..
-
@SpectateSwamp there was a time ssds ran on vb6 but you went back to vb5?!
-
@SpectateSwamp Extended support for VB6 ended 8 years ago.
Time to move onto something that is still supported by its manufacturer.
Unfortunately using something like VB.NET will encourage you to do grown-up software development, perfect-perfect style, so no chance of that then...
-
@SpectateSwamp can you port it to Unary? I would be interested to see the size of the source
-
@Arantor PHP it is, then.
-
@Arantor said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:

I'm not so sure about that. It appears VB.NET still supports
On Error Goto
(though they get partial credit for saying you shouldn't use it):Whenever possible, we suggest you use structured exception handling in your code, rather than using unstructured exception handling and the On Error statement. For more information, see Try...Catch...Finally Statement (Visual Basic).

@antiquarian said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:
VB.NET still supports On Error Goto
Find all "On Error Goto", Whole word, Subfolders, Find Results 1, Entire Solution, "*.vb" ... Matching lines: 626 Matching files: 120 Total files searched: 4104
This is a project that was originally VB6. Most newer stuff does use exceptions

Something closer to @fox's reputation?
Technically, yes, inasmuch as it should probably be negative, but there is a qualitative difference between Swampy and Fox. Swampy is bat-shit crazy, but he doesn't try to force his crazy world view on others. He mostly ignores people who criticize him, and I think he really doesn't understand why anyone disagrees with him. He is even amusing (in a rather sad, point-and-laugh way).
Fox, OTOH, is less psychotic than Swampy, but his delusions are far more dangerous, he seeks to force his world view on society by force of law, and he argues vociferously with all who disagree. Poor Swampy doesn't deserve nearly the degree of disdain that Fox does.
Swampy's posts are funny in a time cube sort of way. I don't think he'd end up with many downvotes.

Hey @SpectateSwamp I wanted your opinion on the us election, if you've been following it.
With your expertise in plants, UFOs, and understanding of keeping things like emails in text files for easy searching, who do you think is better betwee Clinton and Trump?
How many plants were in Clinton's rallies vs Trump, and had she used ssds would her email usage on private servers been met with more or less scrutiny? And if one told you one of them were an alien from outer space, which one is more likely to be the alien?
And finally, seeing that Johnson has a personality closest to yours, albeit still not nearly as nutty, is he the one you'd vote for if you were a us citizen?
I'd appreciate your feedback on this matter.

I don't like either.. Both are too secretive and not into sharing like us Swampies
They all use plants
If her emails were on ssds then and only then could the thousands of messages be examined.
Aliens aren't as creepy as your two candidates. Nope yanks don't appear to be that exceptional

I agree, that's a deal breaker. Steak is obviously superior food.

So you're saying that if you use SSDS, your e-mails are open for any nefarious three letter agency to inspect and examine?

Indeed. I heard Trump had a private dinner with his family. Absolutely terrifying.
They all use plants
But in which way? I know there have been allegations that some of the protesters at Trump's speeches during his campaign and their silence/assaults were faked by Clinton supporters, and certainly some Trump supporters have been sending out fake news articles about Clinton being filmed shooting people execution-style and saluting ISIS soldiers, but how deep do these conspiracies go?
If her emails were on ssds then and only then could the thousands of messages be examined.
Good to know. Did the FBI ever contact you to use SSDS in their investigation?
Aliens aren't as creepy as your two candidates. Nope yanks don't appear to be that exceptional
So what are the aliens like, then? I mean, I know they scare crows and fly around. Is that all they do?
-

I'm sure they are not obsessed with secrets. It's getting harder and harder to keep them with all the hacks that are going on. Assange Snowden and Manning.....

Back to gathering knowledge... With Video.
I just purchased an adapter from the camcorder to a telescope...
There are game trails in the hills around here and talk of Sasquatch.
I'll be able to hunt critters from my rocking chair..For night time video I purchased a 8" disco ball.
A friend has a very intense spot light.
Combine that ball with a security mirror and you have a portable yard light.. Better than any night vision. When I look at the disco ball box I want to bust a move or two..

Upthread a few hundred posts IIRC, if I find it will edit post.

Try it and life will never be the same..
At the second prompt enter "help" and the app creates a help.txt file that is immediately loaded so you can scroll through.
Initially there are 3 main prompts. #1 is the text file to search. Ie you emails or your notes or your cataloged files.
#2 is for search options. Ie "context" or matching lines only etc etc
#3 is for the search string.Sorry this thread is the complete manual.
Next I'll be testing it out on an android phone...

Pretty sure there's a version of BOCHS or QEMU ported over, you could run Win98 on that, and load up SSDS on that.
-
@Tsaukpaetra don't encourage him, Turing damn it!

Yup I do need a manual for myself.
I am working on a video where I can explain Medicine Stones.
I wanted the picture to appear then the text displayed over that then the next picture / video segment.
Damn it took me more time than usual. I needed to setThanks Swampie I'll keep it in mind.
Right now I'm in the glow of recent changes to the mix of text and pictures.
Quite a bit better than previous photo caption displays.I'm going to use these features to crowdfund a 3D copy of the ToKin Stone
