Wouldn't that have to be Don't Forget bAss Clef?
Not that I know which clef that would be. I'm a percussionist, so pitches are things that happen to other people.

I'm stumped. What's that a mnemonic for?

I saw that and though it was from a real news article. They did say they were taking out his breathing tube today.
-
@Jaloopa It was nothing to do with George Bush. It was just some unspecified individual named George.

Not that I know which clef that would be.
I think the only way that would work would be a somewhat unusual positioning of the tenor clef. I think it's usually positioned with C on a line rather than a space.
I'm a percussionist, so pitches are things that happen to other people.

I'm not allowed to play mallet percussion anymore. And our band is better off because of it.

I've never heard that. I learned "Every Good Boy Does Fine," but I like your version. Does it have walnuts?
I learned Every Good Boy Does Fine for treble clef and Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always for bass. Had to pack the fudge in there somewhere, as it were.

That's not a bug, it's a feature. Insane-sounding things are easier to remember. No they aren't. Contrary to what XKCD says, Correct Horse Battery Staple seems easy to remember, but a few days later you won't be able to remember it.
Is it Correct Battery Staple Horse?
Is it Horse Battery Correct Staple?***This is no different than something we've all done:
I'll put my widget in this drawer right here and the next time I need it, I'll know exactly where to find it.A month later -- WHERE'S MY FUCKING WIDGET, I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE.
*** Yes, XKCD is talking about passwords, but my point is valid for mnemonics as well.
-
@boomzilla You only really need to be able to multiply and divide by two, and add.
-
@gordonjcp You don't need any of that if you have a calculator.

Never Eat Shredded Wheat (possibly a UK only breakfast cereal)
Nah, it's in France as well. (But there you have to find a mnemonic that fits nord-est-sud-ouest, with the added complication that ouest sounds a lot like west.)
And mnemonics for remembering the planets (and other things) are complicated by not giving insight into their names, just the order. (And for certain things, even that breaks down, such as the names of the months: J F Mam J Jason D. Which J is which? And which M? And heck, which M is which in the mnemonics for the planets? Are they Mars Venus Earth Mercury etc.? I don't think so.)

Pfft. Easier to remember the spaces than the lines: FACE on the treble clef and ACE-G on the bass.
-
@boomzilla This is also true, and indeed I wonder what my old 1st year high school maths teacher tells 11-year-olds now instead of "you won't always have a calculator with you, you know". Nope, I've got a ridiculously powerful computer that runs for days on its battery that connects to every other computer in the world and is the size of a biscuit.

Oops. Should have said that it has to be in French... I'd also question the usefulness of a written-only mnemonic.(1) Well, even more than I question the usefulness of shared-acrostic mnemonics in the first place.
(1) The "ou" in "ouest" is pronounced exactly as if the word was written "west", except that if they actually wrote it like that, there's a good chance it would be pronounced "vest".

In a typical piece of piano music, the stave for the left hand is bass and right is treble, and I found it easier to remember "the elephant's face is on the right
Elephant is on the right, but a cat is on the left.
It's not a mnemonic, just a way I've been taught to remember where the scale starts on a piano - either you imagine the black keys as hind legs, front legs and a trunk of an elephant facing right, or as front legs, back legs and a tail of a cat facing left.

That's what mnemonic means? It doesn't have to be the 'sentence of words starting with the first letter of each thing' format that's common for remembering sequences of things.

ACE-G on the bass.
But who's on the drums?
If I meant that, I'd have said "ACE-G on bass", but...
Three-Chords Johnson on rhythm guitar.
Steel-strings-wreck-teeth(1) Smith on lead guitar.
Cricket-bats-for-sticks(2) Williams on drums.(1) I once knew a guy who used to play guitar with his teeth. By appearance, you'd think he wanted to be Jim Morrison, while by playing style, you'd think his ambitions leaned toward emulating Jimi. Weird dude.
(2) Inspired by an interview with Alex Van Halen that I saw many, many years ago on MTV, where he explains why his stage drum kit has so many drums in it. See, he uses the heaviest sticks he can get his hands on, in his words "almost like baseball bats", and as a result he breaks multiple drum heads per concert, so he needs lots of spares. And also inspired by the manager in Spinal Tap.
