what dongles do I need to connect it to my computer/headphones?
And will those dongles need dongles when the next model comes out and you want to upgrade?
-
@kt_ said in Because there's so much wrong with iTunes:
Yup, so you need to decide:
Do I want a new phone or an old phone.
Do I want a large phone or a smaller phone or a small phone.
What color do I want? You forgot: Am I brave enough to live without a headphone jack ?

@boomzilla said in Because there's so much wrong with iTunes:
@dkf The cars tend to be nicer / newer, too.
AIUI, to drive for them, you have to have an almost brand-new car, and it has to be inspected and approved by them. When I was out of work, friends suggested I sign up to drive for them as a way to make money while I looked for a job, but there was no way I could do that with my 15 year old minivan.
-

There are standards about how new it has to be. And there are different levels of car for different types of service. So if you have something like BMW you can be classified as "Uber Black" vs a Honda which will be "Uber X" (or whatever they're calling it these days). SUVs / vans are classified at a different level, of course.
The inspection might depend on the state and whether the state has its own inspection regime. I know that there isn't any Uber specific inspection in Virginia, at least, where cars must get a yearly state inspection.
I think there is some kind of insurance that applies while you are actively working as a driver that's provided by Uber, but I don't remember the details.
-

Social, domestic, pleasure and commuting insurance wouldn't cover you so there must be some sort of business use insurance. If you deliver pizza with your own car they have to provide insurance for while you're working too
-
@Jaloopa said in Because there's so much wrong with iTunes:
Social, domestic, pleasure and commuting insurance
I don't think our auto insurance is that specific.
-
@boomzilla that's what it's usually called here. You typically get the choice of SDP, SDP with commuting, or commercial use; which would usually need a more specific policy than you can get on a comparison site
-

There is a place not far from here (I drive by it occasionally) that is an Uber sign-up center, or something like that. To drive with them, you have to go there in person, with your car, I think, and be approved. Or something like that.
I don't think their inspection has anything to do with annual safety or emission inspections. I think it's just a "yeah, your car looks clean and new; I'd feel ok riding in it" or "eww, nobody's gonna want to pay to ride in that dirty, smelly car" sort of thing.
I'm not sure, though. I haven't been through the process. I know my old van doesn't have a chance of being acceptable.

Yup, so you need to decide:
- Do I want a new phone or an old phone.
- Do I want a large phone or a smaller phone or a small phone.
- What color do I want?
- do I want a ridiculously small amount of storage or pay a lot more for not that much more space?
- what dongles do I need to connect it to my computer/headphones?
I don't think your average Apple customer is concerned about those questions...
- do I want a ridiculously small amount of storage or pay a lot more for not that much more space?
"What kind of question is that? Give me all the jitabytes I can afford!"
- what dongles do I need to connect it to my computer/headphones?
"You mean I need new headphones? I haven't used mine recently, do you have some affordable ones?"

My Appley friends are constantly trying to figure out the differences between their phones. Something like
"Does this one have the same camera as the 5P or the back camera of the 6Z? No that's the middle camera of the 7X Minus. Is this the 38 KB model or the 78TB one?"Further confounded by the fact that the model of the phone is not written on it anywhere! Which I could kinda sorta understand if there was absolutely no text on the phone for design considerations. But it does have some text on the back!

Only 3 models available:- 550

Must be: the UK store lists the 650 instead (and also the 640, but that's WP8.1, not WP10 like the others).

I think Uber's profit margin is also too large (unless they're bearing the costs of insuring their drivers) but you really can't argue much with “it's half price!” making things much better for customers.
Sure you can: Walmart.

@masonwheeler said in Because there's so much wrong with iTunes:
Sure you can: Walmart.
Only if you're a hipster who isn't incredibly pressed for cash. For lots of people, those sorts of stores offer a very good deal, much better than the terrible little local stores that they largely replaced. Yes, they might not be the greatest thing ever, but they're a hell of a lot better than what went before.
I've found non-fiction books from the 1930s basically wishing for something like Walmart to come along and sweep away all the horrible stuff that was prevalent then. “Careful what you wish for” does apply, but even so…

Only if you can't think beyond a single degree of cause and effect. Getting rid of all the "terrible little local stores" ends up damaging the entire community far more than it helps it, over the long term, because it puts people out of work, depresses wages for those who have work, and takes a lot greater proportion of the money spent on shopping out of the local economy than the little stores did.

I think you're losing track of how awful most of those little stores were. Small inventories. Small ranges of goods. Very high prices. Distinctly variable quality. Some of the better ones have survived to become the sort of store that you laud, but that doesn't mean that they're representative of the old way things were; there's been a massive selection pressure to winnow things down to mainly the ones that deserve to survive (good enough quality/experience and also sustainably profitable).

When I view that picture on my iPhone, the "magnified" section is almost exactly the same size as the text on the back of the phone itself. And it's readable in both places. It's actually slightly more readable on the back of the phone, because the text is reflective silver and that picture didn't pick up the contrast very well at all.
