Well, did you add extra memory in bank 2 for the new CPU to match the memory for the first one? Or at least split the original memory between the two banks?

@mott555 Next ESXi gripe. A VM's display is now rendered in the web page, presumably via an HTML5 Canvas element. Which is, for some stupid and unknown reason, a selectable element with resize borders on it, which is also of course way too easy to do by accident. And if you select it, resize it, or attempt to move the Canvas instead of the faux Window it's rendered in, makes it completely unusable so you have to close the console and open a new one.
: Let's make it so when the user tries to click on a button in the VM display, we select the Canvas element and break everything instead!
:engineers: : That's a terrible idea.
:evil_ceo: : Brillant! Make it so!

My job is safe, I've been assured of that. Doesn't stop me being concerned though.
Update: So, basically, my company made almost half its employees redundant today, with the biggest losses in sales and marketing. Thankfully, my job is safe (and more important than ever, given the refocus plans), but honestly, I don't feel happy. After all, who wants to see so many people leaving on one day?
Melancholic is the word, I think. Still, must push on. Tomorrow's a new day, and I'm sure things will improve soon.

Status: Looking to find a nice conclusion to this semester's topic about electricity. I have already covered the transistor, so I thought I'd give them the task of building a moisture detector tomorrow.
According to this lesson circle book I have, I need two npn-transistors to amplify the current up to sufficient strength to get a lamp to light up. This book also tells me to use a bunch of resistors I don't have (at least not in "ready for pupils and a pupil-friendly breadboard" form).
So I experimented a bit with the resistors I have. Turns out that the configuration I found lets even the least bit of moisture yield sufficient amplified current for the light to light up 100%.
Then, just for shits'n'giggles I took the 2nd npn-transistor out of the loop, using only a single transistor for amplification. Worked just as fine.
So, either I have very salty water or those book writers kind of underestimated the amplification factor.

I am actually using incadescents. They're harder to kill than LEDs (unless I use the ones with included resistors) and it doesn't matter in which direction you're putting them on the board.

Did the book call out specific transistors, or just generic NPN transistors? Not all transistors are the same.
-
@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:

I somewhat doubt it -- and even if it did, I doubt that he'd have had the specific transistors that it was calling out.

Or an even more likely cause:

The gain of the amp is determined in part by the resistors. The resistors you used give you higher gain (and possibly less stability — more prone to becoming an oscillator) than the ones specified in the book.
