Uptime in Windows are counted in hours, so not much is lost
My uptime would be measured in weeks or months if it didn't autoreboot for updates all the time.

I lamented the power outage at my house last week. So much cookie-clicker-style progress lost!

Only if you moved the mouse. If you did that, it would need to reboot to apply the change of cursor position to the system settingsβ¦
INB4 that's what the error would have said, because you actually repositioned the usb plug into another port.

@Tsaukpaetra I'm still amazed the screenshot could be taken, since I'm fairly sure pressing the Alt-PrtSc chord to only get the msgbox would also trip one of the hidden bugs in ME.

Ran it in a VM with recording, then took a frame from the resultant video.
-
@Tsaukpaetra ME works in a VM? Colour me surprised.

On Microsoft Virtual PC 4.0? Sure, why not?
Fake Edit: Oh damn, I seem to have lost my ISO for Windows ME, guess I can't test it in actuality.. Whoops. I'll just pull my pants up now...

Your OS can work all it wants, But if your hardware doesn't...
By the way, what's taking so long on that front?

Windows10 suggests pin is more secure (well, whatever). On my laptop when I use pin, later on a pop up asks me to lock the computer and enter the "most recent credentials" AND if I log in with password another pop up (after logging) asks for the pin to "make sure it is you"! Get your shit together. Every time the poor thing wakes up from sleep, same shit happens after unlocking the screen saver!

I was working on recovering my wife's hard drive first, and unfucking her Windows 10. She's sticking with the OS. I'm sticking with her for the kid.
Now that her computer's running, it's just finding the time. I'm reading Clonezilla instructions, and will probably do it this weekend.
It will be glorious! WITNESS ME!

E_no_repro, used a pin since 8, no issues.
Maybe you need to sign into your Microsoft account?

I am told it is the faulty TPM (some Dell Precision crappy laptop) to blame (I do not care </blackey>)

I'm relatively sure we used to be able to view that summary at least on our own posts, though... Feature removal, or setting change?

So the computer auto-rebooted. And to add shit icing to the shit cake, prior to the reboot, I had Firefox and Chrome pinned to the taskbar, and nothing else.
After the reboot:

Fuck you, W10. Note that I had explicitly UNPINNED Edge and Windoze $tore (see, because microsoft likes money) from the taskbar previously.

@Lorne-Kates Sounds like you migrated to Anniversary Update.

I still don't get why that update wipes user specific stuff like this. Who thought that was a good idea?

I remember when I updated to Windows 10 AU... It popped up a message box over Chrome saying "hey, did you know that Edge is also a web browser????????" or something

Microsoft's being doing that forever. I remove the recent places
shortcutfavorite in exploder, and every other update adds it back it seems. And with my 8.1 machine it started resetting menus to appear to the left.

Oh goodie so despite me telling it not to update, not only did it update, but it didn't give me a choice AND installed a major release.
-
@coderpatsy said in Lorne has the misfortune of being an idiot by circumstance: my experience with windows 10 so far:
Microsoft's being doing that forever. I
Boil sheet.
I've never once had that happen on 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, 2003, XP, XP(sp2) or any version of Windows 7.
-
@Lorne-Kates correct on all counts.
-
Also, what the fuck is this that I'm reading-- that Microsoft has stopped rolling out individual updates, and instead it's all or nothing.
So if you want a critical security update, you also have to accept all the UI cruft and fuckery that comes with it.
-
I was out on Friday and I knew that my Windows phone had an update planned but I needed the phone all day.
At 11.30 a modal window popped up to remind me the scheduled time was approaching but if I wanted I could restart now.
So I restarted it, not realising it would take 20 minutes for whatever it needed to do.
Consequently, I endured half an hour of mockery, for having the most up-to-date phone (as of midnight Friday), by iPhone users!
-
The restart thing is wank.
However apart from the restart bullshit. It has been really fucking stable. Windows 8 used to do the random bullscreen ... 8.1 was stable as well.
My main beef with 10 was installing games like "Candy Crush" on a "pro" license and the power management on my desktop goes from "we won't turn the monitors off ever" to "we will turn them off every time you blink while moving the mouse".

Were I work people started having troubles with disk usage and their Hyper-V machines. Also, one guy's lost Hyper-V altogether: it got uninstalled and he lost all his machine settings, had to configure them all from scratch after reinstalling what he had a day before.
It's a shitty update and Microsoft fucking sucks at delivering those ever since Windows 10 became a thing. I hate them and they should die.
Also, in Windows store the "settings" option is available only when you click the "user" icon. How fucked is that?
Also, at work I have the OS set up to English UK locale, but all of the Windows apps are still dubbed in Polish.
They should die, I tell you. Fucking die.
