@PleegWat That's another thing I like about D&D Beyond; it automatically calculates relevant bonuses for you.

Bad rolls all around this morning!
Mine weren't, but I compensated by forgetting to add my DEX to my damage roll.
The creature has 10 max HP. Would it have died if you didn't forget that?
-
@Gąska I rolled 6 damage; the bonus I forgot to add was 4.
-
@PleegWat That's the difference between fatal and not.
-
@PleegWat well, I'm going to kill it anyway right now so.
Fun fact: whenever I hit, I have 99% chance of rolling at least 7 damage.
-
I shouldn't have said that.

-
@Gribnit you know I'm born to lose.

well, gambling's for fools.

Oh FFS.

@Mason_Wheeler were these "reinforcements" pre-planned or do you think we're hopeless against this enemy? If it's the latter, JUST HOW FUCKING POWERFUL IS THIS SUMMON??????

@Gąska said in RPG: The End War (OOC thread):

We were told we were going to meet a paladin early in the game, so it certainly looks pre-planned to me.

@Mason_Wheeler I have a slightly different question. I looked in PHB, and all (but one, and this doesn't appear to be that spell) of the summoning spells I saw require concentration, and the spell ends if the caster's concentration is broken. Killing the caster definitely breaks its concentration. So shouldn't the summoned creature be dispelled?
-
@HardwareGeek rules may be different for players and monsters. Also, maybe it's not a summon as much as a teleport from another plane of existence?
-
@Gąska said in RPG: The End War (OOC thread):
teleport from another plane of existence
I didn't think of that. I guess we'll find out.
-
@HardwareGeek good catch, and I noticed Panopos mentioned this IC. He's likely going to be confused when the bigger demon doesn't vanish...
-
@Mason_Wheeler that was one wild autocorrect xD

Yup, monsters are explicitly built with somewhat-different mechanics than players. To metagame for just a moment: monsters will typically have just one or two special features each (because, frankly, it makes them so much easier to run), and those features can be things that are completely unavailable to players. (And even when they're 100% equivalent to an existing class mechanic, they get a different name, just to highlight that this is an NPC power rather than a PC power.)

@DMBot is MIA

That's the way I like it, baby. I don't want to live forever.

On my view of the map, Nigrim is by the east side of the canyon, and only Bob and Jillian are by the remaining small creature.

@Bot

@PleegWat Right. A 15-foot cone of flame aimed at the small creature, from Nigrim's current position, would hit Bob as well, so moving to avoid Bob being in range would make sense if that were the target. But @Vault_Dweller's post said he's targeting the larger one, hence my request for clarification.
-
I sure hope he targets the large one because the damage roll is amazing.
-
@Mason_Wheeler He stated the new one, so presumably not the small one who Bob and Jillian are already fighting. Though I think he'd have to move up quite a bit to avoid hitting Jillian? Probably by going south so she's out of range.
I'd move him 1SW, 1S (so directly NW of the chest). Then the big one is in range and both Bob and Jillian are out of range.

@HardwareGeek 6 damage from 2d8? The RNG hates me. (duh)
That's a weird thing for your character to be saying.
I'm assuming he is, because it's in the in-character thread.
-
@error Oops.
-
We seem to be doing fine without a special player-only category, but a popcorn button would be nice.
-
@HardwareGeek at least you're not half-dead like some of us.
-
@Mason_Wheeler will I be able to hide in either of the locations to the East of Nigrim?
-
@Jaloopa Given that Nigrim is a gnome, of the same size category as halflings, no.
-
@Mason_Wheeler fair enough. This whole "not seeing character sheets" thing is annoying
-
@Mason_Wheeler what would you say about making all sheets editable by everyone just to give them visibility, and trust the players not to mess with each other's stuff?
-
@Jaloopa TFW you get max damage roll but miss.
-
@Gąska IKR. That rock is going to feel it in the morning
-
@Gąska said in RPG: The End War (OOC thread):

I never roll damage unless I hit. Mostly for that reason.
-
@Gribnit you're not even in the game so of course you don't roll damage.
-
@Mason_Wheeler said in RPG: The End War (OOC thread):
Nigrim is a gnome
I actually didn't know that bit yet. I don't think he ever mentioned his race.
During the weekend I added a list of player/class/etc info in an extra tab on my google sheet for this game.

why wouldn't I?

@PotatoEngineer said in RPG: The End War:
Ruven spots two people getting flanked between two demons, and tries to kill one off. He draws his sword, calls upon Oton's strength, and charges the nearest demon, slashing and trying to bowl him over with his shield
Those two are dead (tricky to see because the skulls are somewhat far away).
Unless you're RPing your character to not have noticed the two demons are lying on the ground down for the count you may want to adjust your turn.
-
Can I break up my commands to DMBot? When I have three rolls, the second one is contingent on the first, and the third happens regardless of the first two results, I'd like to separate them a bit. I have Shield Master, so I get to prone people as a bonus action -- so I'd have attack & damage rolls, and then the athletics check to prone.

Ah, I didn't realize that's what that meant. In another game I'm in, dead things are deleted off the map.
-
@PotatoEngineer you can use "for ....." to label the rolls. You can also make separate posts.
-
@PotatoEngineer You can add labels using the 'for' keyword.
@DMBot roll 1d20+5 for hit
roll 1d8+5 + 1d4 for damage
roll 1d20+5 for bonus action shield bash (prone, Athletics/Acrobatics/STR/DEX to resist)
-
@PleegWat
hit: 20
(1d20[15] + 5)[20]damage: 12
(1d8[4] + (5 + 1d4[3])[8])[12]bonus action shield bash (prone, Athletics/Acrobatics/STR/DEX to resist): 22
(1d20[17] + 5)[22]

@PotatoEngineer said in RPG: The End War:
Corrected: things are dead.
Ruven charges the huge demon, and is just as effective against the big demon as he would otherwise have been against the smaller demons in an alternate timeline: not very.
Yeah, an earlier attack which rolled 9 to hit missed. It's still useful: With Ruven right next to it, it's likely to attack him rather than Bob (who already lost about half his hit points) or anyone else (who aren't wearing any armour right now).
-
@Mason_Wheeler isn't it my turn?
