The word purple was not in common use in the naming culture at the time. Remember Tyre? If you do, the only reason you probably do is purple dye.

Sauerkraut is not made from red cabbage.
-
@topspin Maybe Rotkohl instead? No?
-
@PleegWat that’s why it’s called Sauerkraut and not Rotkraut.
-
@cvi same thing.
-
@topspin It's a fermentation process, traditionally used to increase shelf life. It is not naturally sour. Compare pickles.

Pickles are delicious. Sauerkraut is vomit.

Is there any fundamental difference between red and green cabbage that would preclude red from being used to make sauerkraut? They're both cabbage, and with no evidence to the contrary, I'd assume both could be fermented.
-
@HardwareGeek In NL, I only ever see it made from white cabbage. But given that the wiki page contains an image of home-fermented sauerkraut from red cabbage, I suppose it is possible.

They could not agree whether it should be called Rotsauerkraut or Sauerrotkraut so they simply called it "Verboten".

@boomzilla red cabbage, which is also some kind of purple, is called Rotkraut (red) in German. Except for the Bavarians doing everything wrong, they call it Blaukraut (blue).
Depends on the pH value of your food.

In Germany, we use the RAL color codes. It's something in the RAL40xy range, in any case.

As a kid, hearing my dad curse and complain about other drivers, I always wanted a plate that said:
SOAREYOU
I, clearly, assumed all other drivers did the same as my dad.
-
@Karla I tend to complain about other drivers too, but that's because the region has exceptionally bad drivers combined with me being an above average driver (professional driving training, maturity, observational ability and reading ahead does that). Although when we were going on a long trip and we had my mom's best friend with us and I made a sour remark about someone else, she told me to "Swear more, you can do better!" as that's what her late husband did.

Ever since I started commuting to Stockholm, my tendency to review my mottrafikanter has increased exponentially. So much so that when people ride with me in the car they usually start laughing at my rants.

You know, for someone who second guess himself a lot, it is rare that I can with certainty proclaim myself actually good at something. So yes, I will without any fucking humbleness say that I am really good at fucking driving! Because there are so many asshats who apparently got their license in a box of Corn Flakes in the way they ignore every single traffic rule and regulation and goddamn fucking common sense.
-
@Atazhaia said in Things that remind you of WDTWTF members:

If there's one thing I learned from talking with people from all around the world, it's that everyone is above average driver and lives in a region with exceptionally bad drivers.
-
@Gąska It’s a universal constant. Drivers are bad everywhere, it just differs in the how they are bad. Although the exceptionally bad drivers are in the town where I work, elsewhere here they are just bad. And drivers here are bad in a different way to drivers in Stockholm. Here it is also a combination of retardery with bad drivers, a lot of cars and roads that are not dimensioned for the amount of traffic. And where the roads are dimensioned, the so-called greens are working to rebuild the roads to lower the capacity of said roads to cause more traffic jams and idling engines, because as we all know, cars are most efficient while running and not moving.
But yeah, I still got more driving training than the average person. So extra road safety passenger safety, cargo safety, hazmat transports and driving as a bodyguard for example. As well as training on how to manage the scene of a traffic accident.
