@Gern_Blaanston Not my cat. Sweet or fatty snacks are definitely interesting beyond cardboard boxes.

Is that CatGPT?
<serious>
That cat is a chimaera. Really. Two embryos fused together in the mother's womb.</serious>
-
@dkf iI remember learning about them though I forgot how they were called. What's actually confusing to me are the paws. It looks like a digit is missing.
-
@dkf I read a story a while ago where they found evidence the ovum may actually divide before being fertilized. The story in question regarded single-ovum twins which were not identical, but getting a chimera that way makes more sense to me than the merged embryo thing.
-
@PleegWat In this case, it is two separately-fertilised ova that have fused before the blastocyst specialises. The arrangement of where the stem cells (derived from different fathers) end up is pretty much random. It happens in all mammals AFAIK, but is much rarer in animals like humans where multiple births are uncommon.
Nobody knows exactly how common it is in humans. When the two embryos that fuse have very similar genetics (common in many relationships!) it can go unnoticed for a lifetime until someone happens to have the right kind of genetic test...
-
@dkf Yeah, heard one or two stories where someone failed a paternity or maternity test for that reason. Might interfere with criminal DNA tests too occasionally.
And human females mating with multiple men of different racial background in short succession is relatively rare. Though I vaguely recall chimeras with different skin colors on different parts of their bodies does happen in humans.

But Collins and other wildlife specialists are careful to emphasize that these tiny, deceptively darling felines are not like your domesticated pals (apologies to all friends who asked if I would be able to hold one during my reporting).
“Think of your house cat when they don’t want to be petted, times ten—that’s what these guys are like,” says Collins. ... “They do not bluff if they want to do something. And we frequently tell them that: ‘I know you would. You would kill me in a heartbeat if you could.’ ” Those who work with them often bring little rakes in to keep them at bay.

Not with that attitude.

Best I can do is ex-Europe's remote annex answer to Siberia: https://www.fingertechrobotics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ft-banana-for-scale

Because it has too steep sides.
It is uncomfortable for cats to try to reach into the corner between the bottom and sides with their tongue, largely because their whiskers get pushed too far back. It can even cause what is considered a disease, whisker fatigue
Some cats mind more than others, but all of them will appreciate a shallow, wide, rounded bowl. Unfortunately such bowls are rather hard to find.

@Zerosquare The first time I watched it, I didn't have my headphones on, so I didn't hear the music. But that's exactly the music I was thinking it needed.
