@Tsaukpaetra Opening the video in a new tab made it fit. Maybe change your post to a link instead of embed

Discord has a feature called "slow mode", where you're only allowed to send one message every 2 minutes in a given channel.
This is how it informs you you're on timeout:

C’mon, complaining about stupid electron stuff is too easy. For instance: how many unique clickable areas are in the below screenshot?
For bonus points, guess how long it took to discover that each half does something completely different.
-
@kazitor 36, one for each glyph in the popup and the popup itself

"Nothing" and "something"? Because that was my experience.
-

Well, it's a 903×74 image, so probably no more than 66822 as it is hard to make subpixels clickable.
-
@Gąska I don't see it. (I assume the "Get it" headline is a custom WTDWTF joke)
-
@Gąska I don't see it.
I believe that was @Gąska's point. You can only spot it in the bottom right of the "New post" bar:
(I assume the "Get it" headline is a custom WTDWTF joke)
To me that looks like Discord's way of showing the
#retarded
channel's description, and then I wonder why it's not been reported for bigotry yet...
-
@JBert on a different note, I'm sad that I can't upvote Blakey's post through that screenshot. For one because it's a good point and for another because he hates upvotes.
-
@topspin I remember the macro abomination we've developed to achieve the same effect in C++.

I thought about doing something like that before, but ultimately refrained. I think Qt has something for that, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

Wait, we have a Discord server? Why wasn't I told? Who's in charge?
-
Why wasn't I told?
<insert Hitchhiker's Guide quote here>
Who's in charge?
That would be @Tsaukpaetra, although I wouldn't exactly call it "in charge".
-
Why wasn't I told?
<insert Hitchhiker's Guide quote here>
Not even close, I'm afraid.
-
Why wasn't I told? Who's in charge?
Why are you quoting movies from before a lot of people on this forum were born?
-
@TwelveBaud It's not my fault I'm surrounded by whipper-snappers. 1989 wasn't that long ago, surely?
(Also, I may have been playing a wee bit too much GTA V lately.)
-
Wait, we have a Discord server?
Yes.
Why wasn't I told?
Not on the need-to-know list.
Who's in charge?
You can join.
It's not technically sanctioned by Inedo.
-
@GOG OOOOOH so it was a quote. I thought these are regular questions, and I've answered them to the best of my capability.
“But the Discord server was on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard‘.”
-
@Tsaukpaetra Cheers! Done.
-
@Gąska They were real questions (sorta, more an exclamation of pleasant surprise). However, the quote popped into my mind and it seemed a shame to waste it.
-
@GOG I was just very confused by your "not even close" comment.
-
@Gąska I meant that HHGTG wasn't even close to the movie I'd in mind, ofc.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Out of curiosity: what's the point (that isn't already served by the forum)?
-
@topspin realtime cootie-immune chat? some people that no longer participate here participate there, and some other people that no longer participate here are at least reachable there? Radio WTF? Mandatory Fun Day?

All but the last. Also as a to IRC.

Also, this is what was posted.
iFramely oneboxes that slightly differently. Interesting.

I'm new to this whole Discord thing, I don't know how linking works. I assumed it's the same as every other fucking thing in the universe, but apparently I was wrong.

We much rather ask questions about every single pixel on that screenshot.

Yeah, your link works inside Discord, but only if you're already joined.. Kinda dumb, but what can you do...

I had never used Discord before, but FWIW @Tsaukpaetra's link (first one from before your post) was slightly more friendly in that it prompted me to enter my username immediately rather than giving me a login prompt.
I still had to register a password, verify email and the rest, so the laziness was illusory, but still

@hungrier Also, apparently I'm . You'd think I have the original high quality version of my avatar somewhere that I know where it is, but apparently not. So my Discord avatar is something else

Even if you had used Discord before, @Gąska's link would only have worked if you were also a member of the WTDWTF server. @Tsaukpaetra's link is the invite link so is needed to join the server.

@Zerosquare We have a couple of those in this area doing agility. They're black tho...

They're black tho...
That's just because they've been used to mop the floor too often

Just
drowndip them in a bucket of water, and they'll be sparkly white again!

Sometime fairly recently, Genius changed their annotation system to be objectively worse.
Take a look at all the white space around the actual lyrics:
I don't mind short lines and whitespace, and especially for song lyrics it makes sense. However, part of the draw of Genius is that people can highlight parts of the lyrics and expand on them, giving backstory, explanations of references, and sometimes just goofy nonsense that gets down voted.
In the old version, when you expanded a highlight, it would put it on the side kind of like this:
Now, I guess because everything is a phone, it opens underneath the highlight and pushes the rest of the lyrics down below it:
It's especially bad when it's a long explanation or it includes a picture:
-
-
everything is a phone
but what is media(max-width) query :???:
Making things like that behave well both on a thin phone browser and a wide computer one isn't even hard.

Depends on if you include "actually used available screen real estate in a good way" because that most of the time will require a different layout altogether.
-
@Carnage true, but they'd already refused to do that with the 'narrow column in oceans of white space' thing. Putting the annotation inline versus float: right looks like something at least workable can be done with simple CSS.

Why is a progress dialog which definitely has a known progress amount using a fucking "indeterminate" spinner??!?

Your first mistake is that you assumed designers understand UI concepts.

Your first mistake is that you assumed designers understand UI concepts.
: You see, if we had used a progress bar, the user would expect the upload to complete in a reasonable time... or even to progress regularly...
Using a spinner subverts that notion, by subtly negating the very concept of time... We're implicitly telling the user that the operation may complete in a few seconds, in a few centuries, or never at all... freeing them from the tyranny of expectations and the illusion of being in control...
