I wonder what Irish Girl looks like nowadays.
She's still a redhead
How old is that picture? She might have gray hair by now.
I sometimes wonder about the girl in our go to meme. Is she fat with 3 kids now?

we have a problem!
right o! I’m on it.QA is reporting that its not a problem anymore.
Yeah, I sent off a release an hour ago.
Good stuff! What ticket number is it under?
that sounds like a you problem.

@Applied-Mediocrity I guess that's an inside joke.

@jinpa I was re-using a joke - not sure how good - I heard somewhere that the best way to scare a burglar in Ireland is to shout "I know your mother!" - they would then go "Feck, he probably does" and run away.

NetBSD?! Why aren't you guys using Ubuntu Purple Poodle
I reaally want the Ubuntu maintainers to use that codename at some point now! I think sometime 2026 should be a good target.

You are too slow. Purple Poodle would have to be 25.04.

@Applied-Mediocrity if it were my device it wouldn’t be that. It’d be “how to have a div be 100% of the screen height” because I keep having to do shit like that where it isn’t just slap 100vh on it for
-

@jinpa The things that remind you of @Tsaukpaetra thread is .

@Applied-Mediocrity Is she worried because she's not a techie, or because she's a web developer and hoped he would already know the answers, or would be able to generalize instead of asking the same type of question in each situation?
-
@jinpa It's probably some kind of code language. Center is actually enter, div stands for divorce, horizontally means getting laid. Or it might be all about sex positions. He's definitely cheating.

totally expected. it becomes more obvious when you realize the syntax for the in operator is
key in object
0
is in l because l[0] is a valid index
"0"
becasue l["0"] is a valid index (that is equivalent to l[0] for rasins)
4
is not in l because the highest index in l is 3for the record
'slice'
,'concat'
,'length'
and a bunch of others are also "in" lif you're gonna meme on JS being a bad language (and you absolutely should) at least pick on one of the truly braindead parts of the language, not something that's behaving exactly as specified that while unintuitive when applied to arrays, does at least always behave exactly the same way every time
sorry for the but.... no not actually sorry. :P
-
@accalia No. A key is not equivalent to an index. Keys identify elements. Indices describe the position of elements.
Javascript's (and many others of the sort) idea that arrays or lists are actually associative arrays is retarded and objectively harmful.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity can you show us on the doll where arrays being associative containers harmed you?
-
@Applied-Mediocrity Oh well. At least it's not Lua.

No, that idea is just as valid as any other definition of the concepts. There is no objective criterion to say which is the right one. Every language has the right to choose its own definitions. Retarded and objectively harmful are the people who think that the way the language they first learned does things is the only correct one.

Javascript's (and many others of the sort) idea that arrays or lists are actually associative arrays is retarded and objectively harmful.JavaScript does separate the two. Arrays and objects are distinct things with distinct behaviours. I’ll grant you that it gets iffy with sparse arrays depending on exactly what you do but it broadly does operate exactly as you’d expect here, even if it reuses the [] syntax for index vs key (not that it has to for static keys, object.key is perfectly cromulent). I will also admit it used to be worse for iterating over maps/objects as if they were arrays-but-not-really.
PHP is the smooth brain here that does actively conflate the two with bad-timeline consequences.

Take your best guess about that one.

That said, some definitions are better than others.
