Getting hyper loop vibes...

@gwowen It would be quite a bit further cycling since the most direct route involves a motorway.
I am selling that car and will be getting the train in though

Yes, some people regularly drive 250+ miles in a day. Electric cars are not currently suitable for those people
Why do people have to drive far every day? If you only have one car it doesn't matter if you only drive it 10 km to work if you can't go visit some family or go on holiday with it.
You're also forgetting that only the Tesla has such a good range. Most of the electric cars are closer to 100km.

However, I think the majority of people who mention range and recharge times as a factor would rarely if ever actually be impacted
That probably assumes that you have a convenient way to recharge while not driving, which I suspect most people do not. It's still much more inconvenient even if it only happens once a week.

Aside from retrieval, what has SpaceX really contributed to rocketry?
The Merlin engines seem to be pretty good (i.e., better than any others currently flying of the collection I could find compared on Wikipedia).

How many times a week do you fill up the tank on your existing car? (I usually only fill every few weeks, but then I don't use it to commute because the traffic's pretty awful that way.)

It can vary a lot. Sometimes I can go for 3 weeks, other weeks I might need it nearly twice in one week. But I'll often put it off (like everything else) until I really need it, which is sometimes pretty inconvenient. But still, it doesn't take that long, and I can always buy at a more expensive station if I have to, even just putting a bit into the tank.

I refill 1-2 times a week, depending on weekend driving and when during the week the first refill falls. My commuter car gets ~320 miles to a tank, and I drive a little under 70 miles per day for work. That means that I typically need to refill after 4.5 days of commuting, which of course gets thrown off by any weekend driving.

peen-measuring time!
My Tacoma gets 24 mpg, commute is 25 miles one way. I usually manage just under 1 week between fills (for safety, I avoid letting the tank getting below ~1/4 full).

Which doesn't matter at all. Given two options, most people will choose the one that will never have that impact. (why would you not?) So that impact (real or perceived) must be removed before people will honestly consider electric cars.
Further, you are far under representing how much people drive in the US. An active family or social life can easily see 100+ miles in a day without them even thinking about it. (lots of short trips add up over the course of a day).

My car does 11 miles twice a day to get me into work
Isn't that what a bicycle is for?
no

No, he wasn't. He simply didn't talk about the US at all.

@kt_ I worded that poorly.
It should read:
"Further, you are far under representing how much people drive. In the US, an active family...."
-
@Dragoon There is a reason for that the distances are massive compared to Europe. Even in Spain it public transport could cut it.

This easily covers a few road trips and ~2 trips to work or somewhere else in the city per week (usually take a tram). My father makes ~40k. It depends whether you live in the city, whether you need to travel for work, whether your family lives far and how big is your country. Oh, and road infrastructure! Now, there probably are more, but taking all that into consider, I'd easily be able to make do with a Tesla.
I do understand it could be harder for a typical American family, cause everybody lives in NY, LA or Austin and have their family living somewhere in the Midwest where you can't take a plane to, and even if you could it would be expensive and the mandatory beatings are a serious turn-off.

European distances do get large, but that's mostly in the East or (the backwoods-y parts of) the North. There's just shit-tons of nothing (except trees and swamp and snow/biting flies) in northern Scandinavia and across into Russia up there. Just like northern Canada and most of Alaska in fact.

I am shocked. SHOCKED I tell you.

the jaw-dropping import tax of 180 percent that Denmark applies
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu…
That's quite a tax. But why? It's not like Denmark has a motor industry of its own to prote- Oh… Yeah, I see what they've done.
-
@RaceProUK Yeah, I recalled that there was a massive tax and I suspected that was exactly what had happened here. Electric cars are super expensive to begin with. They simply can't compete with ICE vehicles yet at the consumer level, especially when you get draconian taxes like that involved.
