@hungrier They must not have Dairy Queen where you live.
-
@Mason_Wheeler We have them. Actually I used to live down the street from one. But I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of all their products

Just happened to come across this in my random reading of old Dilberts, thought it was amusing. Mods are, of course, free to move it if appropriate.

A single Blu-ray disc can hold as much data as five DVD discs. Imagine the entire Earth, from the surface down to the core, was made entirely out of Blu-ray discs.
That's two exa-exabytes. DNA contains five Blu-ray Earths worth of data.
Emphasis mine. I'm having a hard time making sense of this. (It's grammatically valid, but it seems doubtful.)
It means "the sum of the information stored in the DNA of every living cell on the planet would, if encoded on Blu-ray discs, take up a volume 5 times the size of the planet."
It would also be pretty redundant, I'd imagine... there isn't a whole lot of difference between the DNA of various life forms; even less between the DNA of individuals of the same species, and virtually no differences at all between the DNA of the individual cells of an individual.
-
@brie So we'll just use some compression algorithms. As redundant as the data in the proposed scenario is, it seems that there would be a significant space savings with proper compression.

@Rhywden The title suggests they're talking about Donald Trump, but then they proceed to give a whole bunch of adjectives that don't describe him at all.
Which adjective are you having trouble with specifically?

@Gąska If Sam can't find his wallet or his keys by touch alone, then his problems are greater than missing retinas.

Hey, some people just aren't all about blindly feeling themselves up in public

@izzion "some".

@Gąska Only some of them, unfortunately. Usually the wrong ones, if you care for your retinas.
