Funny, because when I said the entire forum is the Garage, I was thinking about you specifically.

But I was thinking of you specifically. And @HardwareGeek was thinking of me specifically.
And @TimeBandit was thinking about @Karla specifically but not for any reason having to do with any of this.
@boomzilla could not be reached for comment, but is not believed to have been thinking of himself specifically, yet.

Oh, I know. Although in cowardice you departed the truly human realm, it amuses me to address you as your (presumably/approximately) two-legged gait suggests, from time to time.

Your posts, though nearly always frustrating for other reasons, are usually not Garagey unless they're in the Garage.
I don't leak Garage material outside the Garage, although I'm willing to post if the leak has already happened.
-
@GuyWhoKilledBear well, as long as you believe that and I believe that this is hard to read, we'll all be fine.

Not frustrating if you don't see them.

And here was me realising that I have chosen to not block Gribnit yet. I wonder what that says about me.

Me neither. There's occasional tidbits that are good. Mostly, my mouse wheel just gets some exercise.
edit: That said, there are a number of threads that he has created that I am ignoring!

That you're an hopeless optimist, which is a complete violation of the WTDWTF terms of service?

Nothing good.

Probably for the same reason I haven't blocked @dangeRuss. It's not a good one.

For that to work you'd also need to block the same handful of people who always get sucked into that shit, and at that point the forum gets a bit too quiet.

At least then you would finally be able to hunt wabbits.

There's one fairly good reason not to use the blocklist - gets quite wonky. CSS is recommended instead.

Old but gold: the internet of better-not-have-too-much-shit-in-there. How to backdoor a backdoor toy to ransom it for buttcoin.

@LaoC . But yeah, that sucks big time. I know someone with a cochlear implant, and I wonder whether she might someday find herself in a similar situation.

No, you need to put a biomass energy source like the one EATR had in there as well.

They could use the flamethrowers to keep the food hot.

That's how we get Zero Dawn.

How else were they supposed to know when they had to be back from joyriding in your car?

When a garbage disposal has an app, how could you know if it's any good since it's a garbage app?

I assume the "builder" is the construction company building their new house.
Imagine building a brand new house that you can make to be perfectly like you want it, but spending $4000 on an oven you don't want because the CONSTRUCTION COMPANY won't sell you anything else.
This guy fully deserves everything that will happen to him. Just wait until SSL certs expire in a few years...
Meanwhile, the gas stove my grandma got in the USSR in the 60s is still fully functional.

Imagine building a brand new house that you can make to be perfectly like you want itThis is where I think you could be wrong, as someone who lives in an apartment where the original construction company has a deal to sell replacement ovens at a special price provided you stick to the same appliance brand.
Heck, even if it's a brand new house designed to their tastes a similar discount might be in place.
-
@Zecc what good is a discount if it's going to stop working in 5-10 years because the online service gets discontinued? Or gets borked by a bad autoupdate? Or if you're really unlucky, refuses to work if your internet is down?
-
You and I know that, but this guy — checks — okay, this guy is a developer and should have known better. I got nothing.

@Zecc interesting coming from someone who turned a car into a glorified smartphone.

AEG-branded microwave ovens bricked because they mistakenly pushed an update intended for steam ovens.
-
This says it can’t be solved remotely, because the update disabled the microwave’s wifi. I’m sure everyone here fully understands why a microwave would need to be hooked into a wifi network.
On the positive side, AEG apparently sends out people to solve the problem on-site to anyone who needs it.
-
@Gurth Something about getting recipes from the cloud, apparently.
Back in my days (about 3 years ago now, I think) they 'just' included a 360-page full colour recipe book.
-
@PleegWat 30 years ago (close enough) they just hard-coded the recipes and even made it so that it detected when to shut off:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiS27feX8o0
But you know what, let's just put WiFi in it.
-
I don't hate the idea of optional cloud connectivity to lookup recipes or whatever.
The big issue is that a remote update can brick the device and there's apparently no protection against that.
